When I first read the synopsis of this book, I was drawn to the similarities I felt to Nina. She prefers to spend her time with books, but not at the cost of other aspects of her life. I liked the fact that this bookish side wasn't portrayed as a negative characteristic as it can sometimes be. The story is an enjoyable one, centred around family and love, which I found myself charmed by.

The book is extremely well written. You can feel all of Nina’s emotions radiate off the page. You will also giggle along at her view on life, it certainly gives you that feel-good factor. It was lovely to see Nina blossom as the book progressed and for her character to evolve along with her current situation. She felt very realistic which is a credit to author Abbi Waxman’s writing skills.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

As an avid book lover and introvert I really related to the central character of Nina. The Bookish Life of Nina Hill is a highly enjoyable read and I look forward to reading from the author in the future.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers got this ARC

I loved the first 3/4 of this book, the plot & characters were all well rounded and jumped from the page, sadly the last section seemed a little too rushed and neat.

Good. Even though due to the many family members that the main character had got me confused and that the ending was a bit disjointed and rushed, it was a nice little story about book lovers and our little quirks.

My thanks to Headline Review for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘The Bookish Life of Nina Hill’ by Abbi Waxman in exchange for an honest review. It was published in July 2019. My apologies for the late feedback. I have since bought its ebook/audiobook combination.

Nina Hill is very content with her life. She has a fulfilling job in an independent bookstore, is part of an excellent trivia team and lives with a cat named Phil. She is something of a loner preferring to read rather than socialise.

Then the father she never knew existed dies and includes her in his will. Suddenly she has a ready made family of brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews all living locally! Plus, the rather dishy leader of a rival trivia team is interested in getting to know her. Is she ready to allow other people into her bookish life?

This was a charming, quirky novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. I adored Nina and certainly could relate to her bookish interests. It was a complete delight, full of wit and warmth. The kind of feel good novel that I could just relax into. The audiobook edition was well narrated by Jessica Preddy.

Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this book, the only thing that let me down a little bit was how rushed the ending was.

We're following a 29 year old bookworm called Nina Hill who works in her local bookstore, plays trivia, has a cat called Phil and loves to read. She's an only child with no father and her mother was barely around as a child and even less so as an adult.

One day, Nina finds out the dad she didn't know she had has passed away. And as it turns out, she's not an only child. She's also recently found out that her trivia nemesis, Tom, is actually a really nice, hot guy and she's struggling with how to deal with this.

What I love about this book is that I could really relate to Nina's character a lot. She's the same age as me and we have a lot of the same thoughts about dating and life in general. So her character was written really well. I also liked the relationships she ended up having with her brother and sisters and other family members. I haven't read that kind of family dynamic before and it was a nice breath of fresh air. I also really enjoyed the relationship between Nina and Tom and how that blossomed.

However, unfortunately, I did think that the ending was rushed a little and I was left feeling a little "meh" towards the end of the book.

Overall, this was a fairly good book. The ending could have been packed out a bit more though.
I rated this book 3.5/5 stars.

First and foremost I loved the cover, Nina looked like a bookish friend I would relate too, she ended up feeling so much more than that.
Nina is the type of person I always wanted to be when I grew up. Working in a bookstore or a library were the dream I hoped for.
Abbi Waxmans own love affair with books shines through as she describes Nina and her love of books.
Nina's childhood with limited parental contact and the lack of knowledge of who her father was, was comforted by her nanny and many.many books.
Suddenly Nina finds out her mum knew the identity of her father ,but now he has died Nd left her something in his will. The only problem is to claim it she must meet the conditions set.
That she has to meet his/her family..

At the same time everything else she holds dear seems to be going awry. The beloved Knights bookstore is on the verge of collapse and Her normally annoying.feiend.Tom is becoming less annoying, the truth is he has always thought Nina was too.smart for.him, but when he starts.acting.kinder.Nina notices.

I truly loved this book,, Abbi Waxmans characters are full bodied and endearing, I could easily imagine myself down the pub with Nina and Tom.
Much praise deserved for Abby Waxman .

I enjoyed reading about the anxious Nina Hill who finds her stability in working in a bookshop and spending time alone, until she unexpectedly inherits a whole family.

This is a lovely story about Nina and coping with the changes that are taking place in her life. A book full of complex characters who all have a love of books in varying forms.

A book I enjoyed and found got better and better as I kept turning the pages

The second I heard of this book I knew it was for me. I had ideas of Kathleen Kelly in You've Got Mail dancing around my head.

For the most part I enjoyed this, but there were a few large errors I couldn't sit with. I hope they've been corrected in the final print, as other than that it's a lovely book.

So the minute I heard about a rom-com where the main character works in a bookshop and loves books, I was obviously so invested in it. Like pretty much all rom-coms, this one was so easy to read: I whizzed through it in a matter of hours, and it was perfect for an airport delay. And I did enjoy all the book references and I did like seeing Nina interact with her new family, but I have to say that I found her burgeoning relationship with Tom to be just a bit too awkward at the beginning, and disrupted by something a bit too overdramatic to convince me. A 3 🌟 read for me - but it's highly commended for pointing out all the Harry Potter characters that have been completely removed from the films.

A glimpse into the life of confirmed bookworm and total introvert Nina whose life is turned upside down when she suddenly has to mingle with.....people. All quite unpleasant and horrifying. Will Nina cope with life outside of the pages of her beloved books? A rather joyous and very sweet, romantic read peppered with gentle humour.

Nina Hill loves books, trivia quizzes and her cat Phil. She likes to be organised but life has other ideas for her, and this is the story of how her life becomes more enriched by the people around her. I thought this book was a total joy and I loved every bit of it. I'd love a sequel to find out what happens to her next. I've never read anything by Abbi Waxman before, but I'll definitely be checking out her other books.

A great light read. The books main character is Nina; who lives in L.A.,loves books and she loves to compete in team trivia quizzes. She lives a lone with her cat Phil.
Nina has an expected visitor one day that hands her a letter informing her that her dad had died. Nina knew nothing about him and is shocked to hear about him as well as her family.
The story basically deals with her anxiety, having to make adjustments to her life, meeting new people and changing habits.

This was a nice quirky read and I connected with the character in this so well as I am sure that a lot of other readers will in the same way. Very relatable characters and a good solid storyline. The characters complimented each other really well and I can't wait to see if there will be more from this author in the future.

THE BOOKISH LIFE OF NINA HILL is such an entertaining read. I spent an entire afternoon with my nose in this novel and I loved every single page. In Nina Hill I found a kindred spirit. Like her, I prefer books to people and I often find socializing exhausting. Also, I admired and envied Nina’s organizational skills. Nina is relatable, interesting, and engaging, and very very likable. Actually, I loved all the characters in the novel, I enjoyed all the literary and pop culture references that fill the pages and, for some reason, I found very interesting the random encyclopaedic facts that Nina casually dropped in conversations.

Nina Hill lives in Los Angeles with a grumpy cat and she fills her days with her job in a bookstore and many book clubs and trivia quizzes. Being around people give her anxiety and she is comfortable only when she is around books. She has her days completely planned out and she doesn’t like the unexpected. So when she finds out that the father she never met has died and she has a whole family of brothers, sisters, stepmothers, nephews/nieces, and grandnephews/grandnieces, her anxiety level rises up. Add an adorable trivia rival and possible love interest, and suddenly Nina’s life is far from ordinary.

I love Abbi Waxman’s novels. Her stories are heart-warming, funny, and engrossing and her characters are endearing and realistic. THE BOOKISH LIFE OF NINA HILL is decisively my favourite and I was happy to see characters from her previous novel make a few appearances (hopefully I will read more about Nina in the author’s future novels). I loved the author’s distinctive writing-style, the way she inserts herself in the novel and in the characters’ lives.

THE BOOKISH LIFE OF NINA HILL is one of these books where I fall in love with the character and I don’t want the story to ever end. A must-read!!!

3.5 stars

This book was full of appeal for any booklover and Nina was a relatable protagonist in terms of her love for books. Nina was quirky, nerdy, anxiety-ridden, something of a loner but she was actually much better with people than she perceived.

HE BOOKISH LIFE OF NINA HILL had depth and complexity but this was offset by humour, quips and banter. Nina's inner monologue was insightful into her psyche but also pretty funny at times.

"Nina tried to pull herself together. She'd been irritable all week. Either her period was coming or she had a brain tumor, and at that moment the tumor felt more appealing, which probably meant it was her period."

The story was overwhelmingly about finding family and for Nina this was a first. Her evolving relationships with Archie and Peter were my favourities but I also appreciated Millie and Lydia. The family were almost farciscal in their make up and they were rather fun to watch interact.

There is a lowish-level romance in this book with Tom from a rival quiz team, it made for cute reading but I really did want more from this aspect of the story. I felt somewhat disconnected from their own connection.

There were some pacing issues in this read for me, slow parts leading to more faster-moving scenes. I would have preferred a more active pace throughout the book.

Overall, this was a good read and I think this could be categorised as women's fiction or romance but again, it was less on the romantic front for that genre.

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book, thank you netgalley and the publisher.

I loved this so much, such a fun, humorous read full of character, emotion and heart. So well written, an addictive read. I really hope for another book in the series by the author I loved it that much I was sad to see it end, so I’d love more please

I feel slightly like this book was written for me personally. I work in a bookshop, am an introvert with anxiety who’s never known her father & I like trivia. Although I have a dog instead of a cat. I’m sure most of it is true of a lot of booksellers though!

I flew through this book, I liked all of the characters & didn’t feel like there was anything missing, & I enjoyed getting to know Nina’s new family along with her. The romantic plot line isn’t the main point of the story which i also quite liked, making this a nice read without being similar to most other titles out there in this genre at the moment, I’d highly recommend it.
