The Odyssey of Pablo Camino, the first book, was inspired by a real-life incident when a stateside doctor, sent to the island for research, claimed in a letter that he purposely killed eight of his patients because of his disgust with the “natives.” In the novel, the doctor’s fictional son, a well-known, but troubled Puerto Rican artist, goes on a search for the truth of his father’s possibly murderous past.

Recommendation:

Although this story has corruption and it’s meant to be a historical fiction, I had a hard time following the storyline. It just did not flow.

We follow Pablo Camino, a Puerto Rican artist, in his journey and obsessive quest for the truth to answer the difficult question: who is he really?

Looking for answers led Pablo to be in touch with freaky and intrigant people as well as the dark past of his father. Actually Pablo started developing murderous behavior and he thinks that it was linked to his father, an American doctor, who was accused to be involved in mass crime in the past.

Pablo's character and his psychological side were interesting. Sometimes it feel like we are in his head and we were sharing his emotions. However, overall characters were not balanced and were not well designed. The author used flashbacks a lot and sometimes we do not know why some people were there as they do not add any advantage for the story..

My rate is 2.5*.

The Odyssey of Pablo Camino was a miss for me. I just didn't connect and the story didn't intrest me enough to keep reading. It's a dnf at 25%. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
