The day we meet again centres around Phoebe and Sam who meet at St Pancreas station when both their trains are delayed. Phoebe is about to travel to Paris as the starting point of her planned year of travelling. Sam is headed to the Isle of Mull to reconnect with his roots and find out more about his dad. There is an instant connection between the two, but as they are both headed in different directions, they agree to meet again in one year, in the same place if they feel the same way.
This is an easy book to read but the premise of the story made little sense. Why have the self enforced rule of little contact between the two of them for the year? Why not allow a relationship to develop through email, texts etc? The characters themselves could also be a little annoying at times due to their constant self analysis.
I’d recommend this as a romantic summer read if you are looking for something straight forward and light hearted.

Their meeting is so real that you can feel and hear the sounds of the station, the instant attraction as their eyes meet and the desperate need to get to know one another. Although they only spend a couple of hours together they promise to meet up again in the same spot in a years time. They both feel the attraction but want time to see if this can be a real relationship.

The book describes their travels in a way that you feel like they are places you are familiar with.

I’m not normally into romance novels but this was written so beautifully that I couldn’t help but love this book. The characters that we meet along the way are brilliant and made me want to be a part of this fabulous story.

A great read that captured my heart. They say you find love when you least expect it and that is exactly what happens, does love at first sight exist, who knows? But in this book it certainly does!!!

Much more than you’re average romance. A feel good story about love and friendship and how no matter how precisely you plan you’re life there are always surprises along the way!!

I really loved the characters of Sam and phebe although. I did find them frustrating at time and wanted to bang their heads together. Sam had lovely friends in his life and Phebe was lucky enough to meet lovely people on her travels. A really nice story that kept me turning the pages,what more can you ask for?

I was excited to read this book but unfortunately it read like cliche YA and just ended up being not for me. I'm sure there will be people who love this book, it just wasn't for me in the end.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The story starts off interestingly enough, the premise is catchy and the two main characters pleasant enough. As I read on though, the book started feeling a little off. There are several inaccuracies, the story feels like it should have taken place 30 years ago and not in this day and age, and it gets too repetitive. Halfway through the book I started wishing it would end already.
The woman protagonist is also a little too immature, even though I liked her well enough, for a woman of almost 34 year of age (by the end of the book). Her reactions to things happening to her are just a little too helpless to ring true.
I read it over the course of two long flights and it was decent company, but I think it would have benefitted from being a little shorter, with fewer repetitions and mistakes and better edited.

The Day We Meet Again by Miranda Dickinson
This is the love story of two people who meet by chance when their trains are delayed at St. Pancras. Because their trains are delayed they spend several hours getting to know one another before they go their separate ways. Phoebe to Europe for a year and Sam back to his native Scotland intending to try and find his father who left when he was young. The intention is that they will meet at the exact same place in exactly one year. The Day We Meet Again has many things to commend it. The descriptions and the style of writing are wonderful and everything comes to life. My main complaint is that there is very little actually happening. We hear about Phoebe’s travels and the people she meets but the storyline itself is a bit weak as it all revolves round Sam and Phoebe’s long distance relationship.. The best bits for me were the meeting of Sam and his father which was quite poignant, particularly the bit about Sam giving his father his fiddle. I also quite liked the New Year’s Eve party which is towards the end of the story. I have not read any of Miranda Dickinson’s books before and I wasn’t sure what to expect but I like a bit more action with my books so not sure I would read another by her. I have looked at other reviews of this book and can see a lot of people really loved it but it’s not one for me – I thought it was too long and too drawn out. Two strangers meet by chance and it's love at first sight-Except it isn't. They decide it's best to do the whole 'make the heart grow fonder' thing and go their separate ways for a year with minimal contact and unsurprisingly they didn't live happily ever after. The story was a little too melodramatic, it felt a bit like a book version of a 90s teen drama, without a high school and aging the main characters twenty years. I tried to enjoy this but I think this book was a little too fluffy for me. It definitely had some humourous parts that made me chuckle rather than roll about the floor laughing and overall and easy 'holiday read'. It was very readable but struggled with the substance I want in my romance and chick lit.

This book was captivating. It kept me enthralled from the first page and throughout Sam and Phoebe's journey, right up until the very end. It really is a perfect romance story.

I loved Sam and Phoebe they are such well written characters, who go through so much during the course of a year. There were times while reading this story that I wanted to hug them, times slap them and at other times ask them what the hell they were thinking. All of this made for an exciting read and I struggled to put the book down.

The story starts with a serendipitous encounter on the day when they are both starting a journey to find themselves and sort their lives out. Their story has many twists that I felt for both of them. I cheered for their triumphs, sighed at the misunderstandings and held my breath a few times, praying for the outcome.

This book is a must read story. It is one of those stories that stays with you once you have finished.

OMG THIS BOOK!

i couldn't put it down and i was so frustrated but loved it too! i couldn't believe after that year it all went wrong and then they had so many chance meetings and misunderstood feelings/reactions. their paths constantly crossed and it was like fate really was pushing them together.

wonderfully written and executed story

This was a nice holiday read, the characters felt very real and both of the story arcs were credible. I worked out pretty much all of the plot elements in advance of them being revealed but this was a fun, relaxing read in a crowded chicklit market

The truth is I’m not sure how I feel about this story, the characters meet and fall in love in a day and arrange to meet in a year at the same place after their travels. We then read their separate stories which I enjoyed but at the same time found frustrating, their near misses, their wrong choices and their insecurities over their feelings for each other. I won’t spoil the ending, let’s just say i felt it was a long time coming.

A wonderful story which could so easily reflect real life. The two main characters really came to life through the easy flowing writing. The twists and turns of the last part were great but not going to spoil it for other readers.
A definite read.

This book is light reading, a romantic holiday read to be consumed on the beach, by the pool, at the airport, on the plane. That said the concept of the two main characters meeting, falling in love and going their separate ways for a year was quite interesting. But where this book annoyed me (unfortunately from the very start) was the lack of accuracy in real life things like the Eurostar.

Let me explain: the whole story starts at St Pancras, by the Betjeman statue on the upper level of the station. Phoebe and Sam meet there, the former is about to go to France, the latter to Scotland. The entrance to the Eurostar is NOWHERE NEAR the statue, trains to Scotland depart from Kings Cross. You do not catch a Eurostar like a normal train. Also I think, the introspection is a little repetitive, the near misses a little too frequent and the story just a tad too long. Phoebe seems to get everything handed to her on a silver platter, sees the world through rose tinted spectacles. Yes Paris is lovely when you're only looking up at the pretty buildings, but it can be quite dirty and the metro stinks, especially in summer. Also she's done a PhD in English Lit after a horticultural qualification, erm, really? Not sure that's how the higher education system works...

Maybe, if I'd been by the pool instead of on my commute I'd have been more forgiving, but do your research, make things accurate and you won't annoy your readers who've actually been to St Pancras if you're going to make it such a central part of your plot.

Is love at first sight possible? A chance encounter at St Pancras station leaves Sam and Phoebe believing that it is, but they then go their separate ways for a year, having pledged to meet up again in the same place at the same time one year later. Phoebe leaves for a long-planned trip to Europe; Sam to rediscover his family history in Scotland. Will they meet up again? And is it love?
A well-crafted story, with a few plot twists before we discover whether there is a happy ending...
An enjoyable page-turning read - perfect for a long journey or holiday.

Thoroughly enjoyed the new novel from Miranda Dickinson and it’s story about love at first sight and whether feelings will last the test of a year apart. I loved the main characters of Sam and Phoebe (even if I did want to shake them at times) but also loved the cast of supporting characters in their friends.

I enjoyed the different locations including the familiarity of Paris, Mull, Cornwall And Port Glasgow just four miles down the road from me ! Even locations I haven’t visited were brought to life by the author’s vivid descriptions.

A slow paced good holiday read.

When they meet at St Pancras station both their trains are delayed and they spend the delay time together. They are travelling in equal and opposite directions for trips they had promised themselves.

The chapters switch from Phoebe to Sam where they are and what they are doing. It is really easy to follow. As I was reading I could not wait to see what would happen - would they meet again?

It was a good read and I thoroughly recommend it.

A chance meeting can make all the difference but will that difference end up in a positive way?

This love story is engaging and very addictive, once you get absorbed in the ebb & flow of Phoebe’s & Sam complicated romance, you won’t want to put it down. It’s well written with characters that you are interested in and want to spend time with. I found Phoebe very relatable. I would've loved to have taken the trip of a lifetime that she made. The descriptions of some of the locations were magnificent especially Mull.

The story is about Sam and Phoebe who are at similar stages in their lives, both going off on an adventure alone when they meet by chance at the station. Sam is going back to Mull where he grew up and Phoebe is going off to Europe to visit the places she has always dreamed of. They agree to meet up in a year once their journeys are over. Each chapter has either Sam or Phoebe at the start so you know who’s point of view you are reading. The book is well written and the story flows easily. It had me hooked from the start and I wanted to find out what would happen to these two charming people. I loved it, would definitely recommend.

Phoebe and Sam meet by accident at St Pancras Station when they accidentally bump into each other when all the trains are delayed. In the hour they spend together they realise that love could be blossoming between them, but Phoebe is taking a year out travelling and her first stop is Paris. Sam is on his way to Scotland hopefully to find his father. Neither of them wants to embark on their own journey now but they decide that if they still feel the same in one year’s time, they will meet by Sir John Betjeman’s Statue.

We then follow their story as they embark on their year apart and what an adventure Miranda takes us on. This book is in turns uplifting, funny, poignant and at times downright heartbreaking and I loved every single page of it.

I must admit Sam stole my heart too!
