This book is equal parts creepy and delicious! I had no idea where this was going when I started it and was thrilled by the end. You might think you are getting tired of the woman-in-unknown-peril books but read this.....it is just different enough that you won't be sorry. A great read! Samantha is twenty one when she falls for a college lecturer and very quickly she moves in with him, he is good to her, charming, clever and rich. However, without her realising it he is taking over parts of her life. People who know him try to warn her but she loves him so much that she is totally blind to his secrets and lies. She only wants to see the good in him, but is there any?

This was blooming fantastic!! The story starts in Rome, which was described perfectly, it was just like I was back there again in the crowds walking along the streets. The writing flowed brilliantly and I just couldn’t stop reading it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it the whole time I wasn’t reading it either! This is definitely a book that gets you thinking. Definitely recommended!!

I found this pychological thriller hard to put down. Not because it's non-stop action, but because the author really knows how to keep the suspense building, like a slow burn. The story involves control, manipulation, lies - and relationships that can cut through all that, and help you heal. The characters are well-drawn - the only wrong note for me was the beginning, and then the jump to the past.

The women is a beautifully descriptive psychological thriller. Samantha thought she had found her perfect man in Peter, the love of her life so charming and sophisticated but unfortunately the happiness she had felt when they first got together starts to fade when Peters true colours show through. It’s so nice to read about women standing together against a man as apposed to fighting amongst one another, this book has a nice sense of female empowerment.

The Women by author S.E. Lynes is a domestic psychological thriller that is not to be missed! This has all of the feels you want from a domestic thriller and Lynes did not disappoint with the twists and turns. The characters are great, in their own ways of course, and well developed for this story!

The Women is one of the must read books of the year. I could not put this book down. The book is well written and great characters. A very engrossing story.

College student Samantha Frayn goes out for a drink with Professor Peter Bridges and falls madly in love with the very handsome, intelligent, older man. She soon moves in with him and baby Emily comes along. Peter is very controlling and there are many twists, turns and surprises in this book which makes it a real page turner. I have never read a book with a plot like this and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I very highly recommend this very gripping, suspenseful thriller. I struggled with this book a bit. It was quite slow to start and I didn’t find it up to the standard of this authors other books

I really like S.E. Lynes’ books, and The Women was, mostly, incredibly enjoyable. Samantha, a student, is almost literally swept off her feet by handsome, cultured, charming and generally delightful lecturer Peter - almost before she knows it, she’s living with him. And pregnant.

For the reader at least, there are definitely early warning signs, but it’s not till after baby Emily is born that Samantha begins to notice the cracks in perfect Peter’s facade...

Meanwhile, a woman called Lottie appears to have her own agenda.

It doesn’t sound that original from the above description but it’s so well written and plotted that it really doesn’t matter. That said, I liked the first, and larger, part of the book best, when neither the reader nor Samantha is sure what’s going on, and the creative writing class - taught by Samantha for a couple of hours a week - element of the plot was particularly fun and intriguing. Once all is revealed the story perhaps went off the boil for me a little bit, though was still highly enjoyable. I liked Samantha, who is far from a helpless victim, and indeed all “the women” of the title...

One little aside: I’m pretty sure women police officers are no longer referred to (or refer to themselves, as one does here) as “WPCs”. It’s the twenty-first century, not Life on Mars.

All in all, a fantastic read.

It's not often I'm lost for words, but that's exactly what this book has done to me. How can I find the words to say how utterly brilliant it is? All I can say to all you readers out there is to BUY IT, settle yourself down, and READ IT! I can guarantee you won't regret it.

I cannot say enough about this book. Definitely 5 stars. I loved the way it started from the present and worked backwards. This is not the type of book that you can guess what is going to happen, I was caught totally off guard! One unique thing about the writing which I LOVED was that the story was fast paced YET a slow burning mystery at the same time. I didn't want to rush through this, but couldn't wait to see how it ended. Wonderful writing. Cannot wait to read more SE Lynes books.

Samantha, a student struggling through life, meets the aloof, handsome Peter. The resident heart throb professor and within days has moved in with him. He controls her with little things that soon add up and she soon falls pregnant:

Samantha starts working a few hours a week and receives strange essays and poems and with two women in the course admitting to knowing Peter what can she do? She needs these women in her life to help her get through the situation. Susie you’ve done it again another blinding read and think this is my favourite one so far!

Twenty-one year Samantha cannot believe it when a professor at her college seems as interested in her as she is in him. Peter soon has her moved into his home and is introducing her to a life of wine, culture and art she knew nothing about before him. He is gorgeous, charming and confident and she is overwhelmed by him, which works out perfectly for Peter because he is a controlling jerk with an agenda all his own.

This is a story of manipulation, lies, secrets and revenge. It was juicy and fast-paced, I couldn't stop turning the pages and I didn't know if I wanted to scream at Sam or root for her...or both.

Fans of Lynes who are hoping for her trademark dark humor in the midst of really tough topics won't be let down, her acerbic wit is everywhere.

This book was a beautifully written story about a woman trapped in a controlling relationship. Young and naive, Samantha can't help but fall for the older, handsome, and sophisticated Professor Peter Bridges. Their relationship moves at lightning speed, and before she knows it, she's forgotten who she is. This is also a story about what happens when women stick together instead of blaming each other for things that aren't their fault. This was a joy to read, and I can't wait to read more from S.E. Lynes!

The women , plural , but Samantha thinks she is The WomAn . Charismatic professor Peter makes her feel like She is the only one , that she is special . .. She is hopelessly in love. Until she is not .. A fabulous story about manipulation, trust and control and about taking back your life .

Samantha is a young undergraduate and is overwhelmed when the older but very handsome Professor Bridges invites her out. He seems particularly struck by her and almost instantly asks her to move in with him. Before long she's having his baby.
It's not until she starts receiving anonymous poems in her creative writing class that she begins wondering whether the Professor is all that he seems.
Lynes knows how to ratchet up the tension and suspense in this novel so that the reader devours it as fast as possible as much from wanting relief as from wanting to know who's behind the mystery. There are side plots that provide red herrings and complexity.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tale and although few men are like Professor Bridges in real life, there are, unfortunately, plenty who employ some of his tactics.

The Women by S.E. Lynes is a gripping psychological thriller that hooks the reader from the very first page. A compulsively readable tale of domestic abuse, secrets and lies, this one had me turning the pages quickly.

Samantha is a twenty year old student who is very unsure of herself when she meets the much older Professor Peter Bridges. Seduced by his cultured and mature persona, and attracted to his wealth and sophisticated tastes, Samantha quickly falls into a relationship with Peter, in which she immediately assumes the role of submissive to Peter's dominance. As Peter's need to control Samantha escalates, and reveals a side of his personality that was previously unknown to Sam, a series of ominous notes begin to materialize, warning the young woman that her partner is not the man she thinks he is.

This is a novel that picks up steam as the plot advances, and a palpable tension intensifies as we fear for the safety of Sam and her young daughter. S.E. Lynes is firmly on my radar as an author to watch.

The Women is a book that will captivate you, draw you in and you follow Sam as she becomes aware that something is not quite right with her relationship with Peter who is not only a lot older but controlling.

It's a book about growth, strength, women looking out for each other.

In The Women, Sam slowly realizes that Peter is not who he pretends to be.

The author draws you in slowly and never lets go.

This is my first book by S. E. Lynes, but it wont be my last. I have my list of her books ready to go.

I was over the moon to receive a copy of this book after reading the blurb I knew I definitely had to read it, I love a good domestic thriller all to do with the ins and outs of relationships wether it’s siblings, inlaws or in this case a couple...
Samantha falls head over heels in love for a college lecture, he has charisma, is charming and oh let’s not forget plenty of dollar! Their relationship advances quickly with them moving in together, getting married and having a child, things are going well until Peter starts showing a manipulative and controlling side that people have tried to warn Samantha about, but Samantha brushes their advise aside because she loves peter... I felt the whole time like I was on a rollercoaster ride of emotion wishing I could reach into the book and give Samantha some advise from a wise old owl, it was like watching a car crash where you don’t want to look but can’t help looking. I really enjoyed the book even though it is a sensitive story line I’m glad there is more awareness to domestic abuse for both men and women.,

This book was addictive engaging and enthralling! A big five stars from me- a big thank you to netgalley for my copy.
