The main character reminded me a little of Junie B Jones in the way she thought about things. She has a lot of personality and character. I loved how the author helped Samantha with her impulsivity by helping her learn her count to ten before acting. The relationship with her older sister was very relatable! Samantha's knowledge about rocks and how that ended up giving her an advantage at school and with her adventure in the Grand Canyon tied everything together. I enjoyed reading this book and I think my kids would, too.

Viau's story has everything young girls love to read. There's snarkiness, confidence, science, rocks, and everyday imperfections. It's a quick read that will appeal to many young middle-grade readers.
