This is a great starter book on illustration. It starts with a section on materials, media, and different styles. It talks about color theory and why it's important to be thoughtful about the color palette you choose to evoke different feelings.

It then moves to a wide range of projects, some of which I loved like drawing your neighborhood or hand lettering a meaningful word/phrase and others didn't speak to me as much but I still loved seeing what the author produced.

There's some step by step in this book but it's a combination of instruction and inspiration, generally staying on the simple/introductory side of things. If you'd like to experiment of illustration, I think you will love this book as a starting place.

Am not sure what I was expecting with this book but I was immediately attracted to the bright cover and the theme suggested by the title. It is filled with imaginative ideas and illustrative projects to encourage you to explore the world around you in a creative way as well as giving an overview of materials and suggestions for using a variety of mediums. There are twelve projects in all with easy to follow step by step instructions to help teach you how to explore your surroundings and express your observations creatively. Ideal for beginners or confidence building.

At first, I was not really sure about this one. I did not feel like it was providing me with enough description. Sometimes I have left a bit confused, however, as the book proceeded, it got better, and I managed to appreciate this book. I liked the tips on how to use several tools.

But my favourite thing was when the author explains how to draw a human body in proportion. In other words, how many heads the other body parts have.

This is a happy book on the benefits of sketching and painting on the go, with plenty of examples, colour and ideas of personalising your illustrations.

Anywhere, Anytime Art: Illustration is a great guide defining the processes to capture the world around you. With information on tools and materials, as well as different drawing styles, this is a great book for beginners who want to practice their art while they're out and about. Some very creative projects and suggestions from the author.

This is the perfect "how to" guide to make art on the go using a combination of medium and style.

The author introduces the reader to scientific illustration, botanical illustration, portraiture, fashion illustration, food illustration and so on. She presents 12 creative projects as well as illustration styles, tools (pencils: graphite pencils, water color pencils; sketchbooks, paint, brushes, water color, gouache, and more), and techniques to create storytelling illustration.

She also explores different color palettes and shares tips on how to combine colors for subjects and evoke different moods.

The projects in this book are easy to follow: for each project, the author provides the media to use, step-by-step sketches, adding patterns and details, and lastly, adding color for the final touches.

This book also covers doodling; the author shows you how to doodle with different shapes, and how to draw and color a scenery. For instance, a scene at the farmer’s market. She shows you how to make patterns, illustrate your meal—be it in a coffeeshop, a restaurant, a local grocery store—and the Japanese Kaiseki meal. She provides some high-level tips on drawing fashion.

Other projects include hand lettering, patterns—inspired by different countries—and collage illustration. The reader will learn how to create collages using newspaper clippings, tickets and other ephemera from their travels, draw and paint on ticket subs to create memorabilia.

This book will teach you how to find inspiration wherever you are and find beauty in the mundane. I recommend to art lovers.

This contains tips for artists-in-training who would like to learn different tips on drawing on the go. I appreciated the artist's illustrated prompts. If you are an artist seeking inspiration this is the book for you. This book is ideal for all ages.

This book begins with the argument that we are surrounding by visuals and illustrations all around us. Utilising illustrations to capture the world around us can help us to slow down in a world which can feel increasingly fast and pressured.
The book then discusses the wide range of materials available to illustrate your world (from pencil to paints), the colours that are on offer in a range of palettes, having 'on-the-go' pouches full of creative goodies to illustrate as we are on the move, sketchbooks and posture when working. Then, the book offers a range of projects to encourage you to begin illustrating YOUR world in a way that enables you to develop your own style and really see the world around you. A really beautiful, captivating, inspiring book. I would highly recommend it.

Anywhere, Anytime Art: Illustration is a good instructional book to drawing with great lessons. Great suggestions on supplies to how to draw various ways. This would be a good book for a beginner or intermediate art student.

Am not sure what i was expecting with this book, but as i do enjoy art work, thought i would have a read. An interesting book with so much helpful information about colours and how it affects the mood. What type of tools to use and material. There are various projects, some being easy and others for those with more experience. I often travel home or abroad and shall remember some of the ideas within the book when i am next on my travels. Recommended.

I originally requested Anywhere, Anytime Art: Illustration because I really enjoyed the concept of it. I love the idea of being out and about working on artwork, but sometimes the idea of it can be a bit overwhelming. Guides like this are helpful in that instance.
This book covered a little bit of everything, and I loved that. It starts out with some of the basics, like styles, techniques, and some color exploration. From there it transitions into artwork out in the world, showing samples from a multitude of different types of subjects.
Everything Beier wrote was about being inspired by what was around you. This view was simplified, and doesn't require hauling a ton of art supplies around. In that sense it's absolutely perfect for those that want the opportunity to see something, fall in love with it, and turn it into art of their own.
I particularly enjoyed all of the art prompts strewn around the book. To me guides are at their most helpful when they encourage the readers to sit down and get some work done at the same time. They'll have the longest lasting impact that way.
This was a great guide, and is perfect for any artist looking to draw more – especially while they are out and about. It was inspiring in many ways, and I hope other people find it to be as well.

I generally classify art books as step by step instruction or inspirational. Although much of the book is focused on explaining supplies from pencils to paints to sketchbooks to ephemera, I’d still put this one as being more inspirational. . Once you get beyond the tools section, you are given prompts to help you figure out what to draw and how to incorporate tickets, receipts, etc in your sketches to make your sketchbooks very much an art travel journal.

Anywhere, Anytime Art: Illustration: An artist's guide to illustration on the go is a tutorial guide by artist educator Betsy Beier. Due out 14th May 2019 from Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback format.

This is an informal guide specifically aimed at different media and methods for jotting on the go. This is a perfect accompaniment for journaling, note-taking, travel journals, diaries, etc. I like that the author presents several different styles, some serious and more involved, some whimsical and a bit silly (framed anthropomorphic pet pictures with glasses, scarves, etc).

There are 12 main tutorials included. The introductory section is quite basic, and presupposes some previous familiarity with art supplies from the user. There is quite a good discussion of different color palettes and how they can call up a mood or place. The author's writing style is encouraging and upbeat and quite fun to read. I felt like I could tackle any of the projects in the book with the instructions provided.

Really fun, useful book. I'll be incorporating some of the author's suggestions in my own journaling.

Five stars, for what it proposes to cover (informal illustration on the go) and for what it provides (beginner to intermediate tutorials to become more confident with the techniques) , it manages to do it perfectly. Appropriate for all ages. There are takeaways for everyone here.
