This book was a slow starter for me with quite a few characters being introduced near the start, but by the time I got to about 25% on my Kindle I was hooked and found myself looking forward to my next read - always a good sign.

There are some really interesting characters in this book and the story weaves around them very well with some gradual reveals of information and some satisfying twists. Perfect for anyone who likes a contemporary thriller.

I am keen to read more by this author.

I first read this book three years ago, but realised I never wrote a review at the time – and it was such an intriguing book I was happy to read it again!

Come A Little Closer starts with a bang – a young boy appears from nowhere covered in blood in a park.

We follow Leah and Jake as they move into a basement flat belonging to Anton, who has been in prison for 19 years for killing his wife – but Anton maintains his innocence. Before Leah knows about Anton’s past, she spends some time with him and is shocked when she finds out what he was accused of (and found guilty of!)

As well as Leah and Anton’s, we also get inside the mind of neighbour Hilary, who knew Anton and his wife Charlotte before she died.

Slowly, through all of their narratives, we start to unpick what really happened back then – the secrets and lies plaguing the people in this neighbourhood. There are twists and turns as we find out more, and a surprise at the end. The plot is satisfyingly complex without feeling too convoluted, and alhough there’s drama and intrigue, it never feels too ridiculous.

I hugely enjoyed Come A Little Closer – it’s a gripping read, which is no surprise seeing as it’s written by the brilliant Karen Perry!

OMG! Imagine if your new friend and neighbour had just been released from prison from murder! That is the premise for this story, and it is such a good read, I can almost guarantee you will read it in one sitting!

Come A Little Closer by Karen Perry is a dark and chilling psychological thriller that kept me glued to my kindle.

I received a digital arc of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The blurb on this had me intrigued and I was desperate to find out if Anton really had killed his wife or if he was innocent as he always maintained. Unfortunately I found myself drifting a bit during this. Although the twist was good and unexpected, for me the ending was a bit of a disappointment.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

A good psychological thriller which made interesting reading but felt it was a bit drawn out in places but it was still a good read. .The characters were interesting and it was quite intense at times with a good ending.

Rating 4.2/5
Another taut physiological thriller by the superb writing team that make Karen Perry. A superb novel following their hit, Your Closest Friend.
A small number of characters are the basis of Come a Little Closer, mostly set in one street. They could be your neighbours...
The action hits straight away with the image of a small boy covered in blood, pleading for help.
19 years later, Anton is released from prison, time served for the murder of his wife. Is Anton naturally creepy or is it a result of his incarceration. His glamorous wife Charlotte had it all but she was cruel, underhand and a total bitch.
Hilary and Grey are teachers; he has watched his wife for years behaving like a love lorn teenager. The lost years they will never retrieve.
Leah and Jake come into the mix. A young couple setting up their first home in the rented basement flat of Anton’s house. She has her own demons, he is an immature, self centred egotist.
Lots of action and many red herrings.
Recommended.
Thanks to Karen Perry, Michael Joseph and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this well written, well plotted psychological thriller. In return I have written this unbiased and honest review.

This is my 3rd book by Karen Perry, and probably the best I’ve read so far and believe me I loved the others! This book was seriously intense, from the very first page until the last I was hooked and didn’t want it to end.
Simply a great book, read read read.

Full of tension and hugely gripping. An intriguing set of characters, all of whom have their secrets to keep you guessing. I expected a twist at the end but I was a bit surprised at what it was. Looking forward to reading a lot more from the author in the future!

Come a Little Closer
Karen Perry
I did enjoy this book but found it a little predictable. A young couple rent a basement flat, the owner of which is a convicted murderer, obsessive behaviour from both him and one particular neighbour. However, I did find the history of the storyline intriguing.

Come a Little Closer is the first book I’ve read by Karen Perry and I hope it’s not the last. It’s great to find a new author who is able to tell a story so well. The characterisation is perfect; the plot really strong and played out so well; and the constant tension is kept up until the end when a surprising twist is revealed. The writing reminds me of novel story by Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine. I recommend it unreservedly.

Atmospheric and cinematic. A sense of menace is present on every page but, right up until the very end, it is difficult to figure out exactly which character it is coming from. This novel is an absorbing read which highlights the impact of many subjects such as those who protest their innocence throughout long jail terms and whether this is in fact the truth or a delusion, the range of effects of extra martial affairs, the strength of family bonds, whether gut instinct is reliable, and so much more.

Come a little closer, has a great beginning that leaves you wanting to know what has happened to a little boy that appears in the park covered in blood.

20 years later, the truth starts to emerge when the little boy’s father is released from prison for serving time for killing his wife. He moves back to his old house but has lodgers staying in his downstairs flat. The past slowly comes back to haunt him and his actions from 20 years ago.

This is not the first Karen Perry novel I have read and it was a great read.

A fascinating "did he, didn't he" thriller which kept you on the edge of your seats to the very end (I obviously will not reveal the end!) Anton has been released from jail after serving nineteen years for murdering his wife (again "did he, didn't he" and strikes up a friendship/relationship with his basement lodger Leah.
Would highly recommend and I found it difficult to put down, Definitely one for binge reading.

The ending, that’s all I’ll say!

What a bloody god book this one is, had me guessing all the way through wondering what was going on and who was telling the truth and why he did leave all those years ago, loved the 3 main characters and the story was fast paced like I like it, I was kinda gutted when it was over as I enjoyed watching theirs lives unfold!

Great book and I can’t wait for more and hope it’s as good as this one!

This story is full of lies, secrets and not knowing who to trust. The book was well written but some entertaining twists along the way. Recommended.

Hilary, Anton and Leah take you on a journey which you never want to end! A great book with a great story and characters. I don’t want to spoil it by giving too much away but I finished the book just over two days! So make sure you have time to finish it before you start it!
