What a fantastic read! I only wish I had read it sooner. Full of twists and turns and kept me guessing up until the end. Definitely got me thinking whodunnit right from the beginning up until the climax of the story. A definite new recommendation for my coworkers and customers alike!

Decent suspense and mystery, but nothing that wowed me.

This book was a quick read. It was faced paced and drew you in. I liked the characters and the plot of the book. It seems like a topic that is done a lot - group of people stuck together, someone has bad intentions, no one knows until its too late. However, R.J. Parker knew how to take this plot and make it entirely its own. I did feel the ending wasn't as intense and detailed as I had expected from the rest of the book, but it was still a solid story.

Its all fun and games until someone ends up dead. Old friends reunite for a dinner party to catch up and enjoy some food and wine. Then they start to play a game and the next day they find two of there friends dead. Who is the killer and who will be next?

This book is fast paced since they have to find out who the killer is before they are next. Fans of the board game clue and thrillers will love this book.

One should never write down their biggest secrets while drinking alcohol for anyone to read much less expect your partner to get rid of the secret before it is exposed. Then when someone doesn't make it out alive, lies begin to abound and their past is not truly in the past. This is a really dramatic story that may not be believable but neither are Lifetime movies and I still love them. The ending of the book was a little chaotic but I think it really worked! There are many twists and turns in this book that will make you think twice while reading. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading other book by R.J. Parker.

I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

This book started out great, but then I started to get confused with all the characters and movement in this book. It ended up being quite the crazy ending. I'm not exactly sure what to think.

This is very twisted, thrilling and entertaining read from the beginning until the end where it leaves you exhausted. Recommended.

This is one intense, twisted, dark, addictive, insane, jaw-dropping novel! Not only is this a very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters, but the suspense builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Compulsive, gripping and horrifying! Will have you on the edge of your seat and gasping with shock!

Unfortunately this book wasn't for me. I couldn't get into it after about 50 pages, I had to put it down and try another book. The story and the characters weren't connecting.

I loved the concept of this book and couldnt wait to read it but i struggled to like the characters which meant it harder for me to enjoy the book - the story is based around a dinner party hosted by Ted and Juliette - as the evening progesses they play a game or thruth and `trust. . They all write down a secret they havent shared with anyone, and then must burn them , the secret going once burnt, However the next day 2 of the friends are found dead - is it to do with the game or not?

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in for a fair and honest review. A dinner party amongst friends, a dinner party game that is meant to be fun. After the dinner party guests start dying...maybe the fun game involving everyone's deepest darkest secrets wasn't the best idea that night. A good read, it held my interest but wasn't what I would call a page turner, the end seemed kind of rushed and far fetched. #thedinnerparty #rjparker #tea_sipping_bookworm #bookstagram #goodreads #amazon#kindle #bookqueen #litsy #netgalley

4 couples who are old friends gather for a dinner party. Things go great until they start to play a game about truth and secrets. The next day 1 is dead and the others are trapped in a nightmare.

While I found the overall story enjoyable, some of the plotlines were not believable and the ending was just too much. And none of the characters were likable, and I found it difficult to tell them apart. I give it 3 atars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads, for providing me with an ARC of this book.

I really like the concept of The Dinner Party. Everything seems normal, you are hosting a dinner party with your closest friends. You decided to play a couples game and things turn tense very quickly. Then the plot turns unrealistic in the second half and I struggled to keep up with all of the moving parts.

This was a great, twisty-turny read that will easily pass a weekend on the beach or rainy day at home. This is based around a dinner party attended by eight friends, where a fun atmosphere soon deteriorates into a game of psychological suspense and terrible consequences, As they meet for dinner it is suggested that each of them wrote a secret and place it inside a sealed envelope. Their partners are then asked to choose - can they burn the envelope without reading as a trust exercise? Will each couple write the slate clean? Or would the temptation to read a relationship changing secret prove too much?
The author builds tension slowly, then one of the party is found murdered. The pace then gallops along as guests start to wonder what the dead person’s secret was? Even worse, which one of them would murder, to keep a secret?
This is a fun read that’s diverting, but doesn’t necessarily stay with you. None of the characters really stood out as someone I liked or identified with. The main allure is in the situation and the possible secrets.

The Dinner Party was a very interesting book. It starts out at a dinner party of friends and then when the rest of the night ends up taking a turn for the worse this group of friends is in for way more than they bargained for. This book will have you on the edge of your seat speeding towards the finish trying to figure out the solution to the crazy night!

This is the 2nd book with this detective in, having not read the first I was a bit concerned it would throw me off. However, it didn't matter as she didn't feature that much.
This book focused on a murder and finding out the truth. When it started you know there is something wrong but you don't know what.
I enjoyed this book, and liked the characters. The mystery set was good and there was a lot happening

I liked The Dinner Party well enough. It certainly had great potential and hooked me in at the beginning. I do think it could do with a bit more editing and smoothing out of the story. It left me wondering about a few untied ends. Overall, a pleasant enough read. I will definately consider reading more by RJ Parker.

Eight people play a game where they write their darkest secret on a sheet of paper and their partner is to burn it and forgive them their sin... in theory, a good idea but in reality, it sounds like a risky game to me!

This book gripped me at the beginning... who doesn’t want to find out what dirty secrets the characters were keeping.

However, while well written, the plot turned out to be quite unbelievable.

It did keep me hooked and although I didn’t find many of the characters to be likeable, I had to keep reading to find out who did what.

All in all, it was a three star read which is alright if you aren’t looking for anything that involves to much mental investment on your part.

Truth games and lots of alcohol - what could possibly go wrong? The Dinner Party is quick and well-written. However, it does feel like there are two different authors because the last part is so over the top even the writing feels different. It is worth the read for the great suspense and I am interested in reading more of Parker's work.
