I have read most of Kerry Wilkinson's books, especially the Jessica Daniels series, and this stand alone does not disappoint. Brilliant from start to finish. A fast paced, thrilling and exceptional tale, very well written as always.
I love this author and he gets better with every book.

I have loved all the author's books that I have previosusly read. This was one was good, it had a good storyline and a great cast of characters but somehow was not as suspenseful as his other books. It definitely is worth the read but is not the author's best.

I look forward to more books from the author.

It was a good read. Lucy was an interesting character and her dilemma is one that made the book more interesting to read. I would recommend to others. I enjoyed the writing style.

I thought the blurb for this book sounded intriguing, but wow, it’s absolutely compulsive reading!

Lucy is a quiet character, she keeps to herself a lot. She doesn’t socialise with her work colleagues, lives a quiet life with her dog, and survives on very little money. At first I thought perhaps she was very young and just starting out in life, but then I discovered that she is 30, and there are hints of her life before, a pretty different lifestyle. So what has brought her to this stage? As her story unfolds, we find out that there’s a lot more to her than meets the eye.

When the money appears in her bag, the tension really ramps up. I had no idea where the envelope had come from, and what the intentions were of the person who had put it there.

As the pace of the book heats up, it is really hard to put down. The ending is unexpected and gripping.

A really great psychological thriller, highly recommended.

What could have been an original plot was spoilt somewhat for me by an the main character not being very engaging and a need for me to have to stretch my belief over the problem resolution she went with.
I did read to the end but never picked the book up with any great enthusiasm which says it all.

I thought this book provided a good, compelling read. The storyline was well thought out and written with intriguing characters and a rollercoaster plot that will keep you guessing. 3.5 stars.

I really liked how quickly I got into the story and kept my interest from beginning to end. Lucy lives a sad life. She has a job she doesn't love, and can barely make ends meet. She lives with a cute dog, who I think (as a dog owner), stole the show in this story. On top of things, she also lost her partner in a terrible accident years ago. When she gets off the train of her daily commute, she realizes somebody put an envelope with money in her bag. Days go by and even though she was wary of touching the money at the beginning, she starts spending the money. Pretty soon, strange things start to happen to her and around her. This is a scary tale. Excellent book!

Compulsive reading, this is an addictive suspenseful psychological thriller like no other.

The plot is unpredictable with lots of twists and turns along with solid engaging characters.
There is also a sense of dread as the story deals with the deep and dark corners of the human psych.

I very much enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone!

Lucy is barely getting by, after her fiance dies after taking all her money. Then, suddenly she finds an envelope with lots of money. Her dilemma is magnified by her poverty. This was a gripping story that shows the emotional sides of traumatic events, as well as the mystery of the money. It also includes the protagonist's love for her dog, which I found extremely touching. I couldn't put this book down. I had to find out where the money came from and whether Lucy finds a better life. I definitely want to read more from this author who makes her characters so realistic!

This was a great read. Had me hooked and kept me reading well past bedtime! When we meet Lucy she is living on a very modest income. Anyway she can stretch her savings she will. But things weren’t always this way. Flashback 5 years and she had financial security and was debt free. All that changed when Lucy’s fiancé died in a horrific train crash. What made is even worse was that she soon learns that Ben had taken all her savings as well. Without her knowledge. It’s kind of hard to get the deceased to pay you back.
One day after getting off the bus coming back from work, the same bus she takes daily, she notices a large padded envelope in her bag. And it doesn’t take long for her to realize someone has put a large sum of money in that envelope. But Lucy is a good person she is going to return the cash. But maybe she’ll count it a few more times first. After all, that money could help her out quite a bit. As the story deepens and the drama and intrigue continue we may all wonder if it’s too good to be true.

I’ve read a few of Kerry Wilkinson’s books in the past & thoroughly enjoyed them.

Unfortunately I didn’t feel this was on par with the others. A little far fetched storyline & a main character that I didn’t empathise with. That said I’m glad I finished it to discover the outcome.

Looking forward to the next story by Kerry.

A Face in the Crowd by Kerry Wilkinson is a thriller that introduces readers to Lucy. Five years ago Lucy had been happy and thought she was marrying the man of her dreams but tragedy struck and Lucy’s partner, Ben was taken from her. Afterwards however Lucy finds Ben wasn’t what he seemed, not only had he emptied her bank account but forged her onto many more loans.

Now, five years later, Lucy is someone that lives day to day, paycheck to paycheck. She’s taken on a job as a cashier in a supermarket which barely gives her enough to live on in her rundown apartment. On day Lucy is riding the same bus she takes back and forth to work when something seems out of place to her. Once off the bus Lucy finds an envelope had been dropped into her bag that was full of cash. Desperately needing the cash Lucy is torn with what to do with the mysterious envelope.

Having read several other books by Kerry Wilkinson I knew to expect some great writing that would pull me right into the book and that still is what I found. I think for me though having loved a few of his others I felt a little more picky with this giving it only 3 1/2 stars when finished. The story was still a strong one but I found this time I just didn’t love Lucy along the way and also thought the end just missed a little something.

This was pretty good but I liked the other one that I read by this author more.

An easy writing style and nicely fleshed out characters, decent pacing. I could easily feel the desperation of being stretched so tight financially. It is depressing that this character finds herself in this situation (naive trusting woman). To, all of the sudden, come across a windfall of cash you would want to do the right thing, but in that desperate situation would you?

There were surprises and twists, a bit of suspense. Did I see where this was going? Unfortunately yes, and it’s not my favorite plot device (I don’t think that the average person could pull this off!!). It’s fiction, I know...

This was a quick, easy read. I do like how this author writes and will definitely look for the next one. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and Bookouture for a copy in exchange for a review.

When she gets home she discovered an unaddressed envelope in her bag. It is stuffed with money! Lucy is a good person, an honest person, Of course she is going to hand the money in. It is the right thing to do isn't it?

But life happens, there are unexpected bills, her laptop she is relying on the get her degree breaks & she borrows some & then some more. Strange things happen in her building. Who is the mysterious person living opposite her? What happened to the previous tenant? Soon Lucy is constantly looking over her shoulder.

This was a well written book. Kerry Wilkinson portrayed life on the edge very well. I liked Lucy- even if at times I wanted to shake her! This was a good read. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

Kerry Wilkinson has written an absolutely fabulous and suspenseful thriller. There were times when I would look around the room because I felt like Lucy sure there was someone in the room. Other times I was crying my eyes out for Lucy. I wish I could give this book 10 stars as it is very much deserved.

All Lucy wants on a Friday afternoon while heading home from work is to possibly get a seat and get home quickly to her beloved dog Billy. This Friday the number 24 bus is crammed to the gills, like a sardine can. Poor Lucy is stuffed into a man's armpit. All she does is keep her head down and wait for her stop. When she gets off the bus she finds an envelope that is full of thousands of pounds worth of money. How did it get there? It wasn't there when she got on the bus as she was rummaging through her bag looking for her bus pass. What should she do?

The story starts off introducing Ben Lucy's boyfriend, after he dies in a train accident her life is destroyed as she is responsible for all his debts. This money would help her out so much. Lucy meets Harry on a dating app and they have a good thing going until Lucy's paranoia over the money and the things happening in her apartment building overwhelm her.

My only negative bits would have been the number of times Lucy counted the money. I get that she was excited about it but it got a tad tedious. I also didn't like how things went with Harry and I would have liked a different resolution in the end. Also the ending is what I would have preferred to be a bit better. Otherwise this is one of the best books of the year!!!

I love this author’s books so I was delighted to see that he had a new book out, this one, A Face in the Crowd!!

I really enjoyed this plot and whilst I did guess a major part of it around a third of the way through, so it wasn’t as enjoyable as one that keeps me guessing right to the end, there were still a few twists and it still held my attention right to the end and the pace for the book was spot on to build just the right amount of suspense.

I really enjoyed the main character in the book, Lucy and I really felt for her as the book progressed, she was a genuine character for me and I think sadly it is common now for a lot of people to be in similar positions as she finds herself at the outset of the book, I warmed to her straight away and was rooting for her throughout and I loved the addition of Billy!

Four stars from me for this one, I really enjoyed it, another well written book by Kerry Wilkinson – highly recommended!!

This is the first stand alone novel I have read of Kerry Wilkinson's. I've read her series and really enjoyed those. This one didn't disappoint.

A Face in the Crowd by Kerry Wilkinson was not at all what I was expecting, but I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised!

What it's about: Lucy is barely scraping by until one Friday, on her usual bus, she gets off only to find an envelope stuffed with money in her bag. She has no idea where it came from, or why it's in her bag, but she desperately needs it. She doesn't use it right away, but after a while she feels like she doesn't have a choice. Once she starts using the money though strange things start to happen, like hearing her favorite song played from the apartment across from her even though she's never seen anyone there... She also starts getting the strange feeling she is being watched. So now the question is who gave her the money, and why?

A Face in the Crowd had so much going on that I was always very excited when I had a chance to read it. It was also a super-fast read and I was able to finish it in just under 4 hours and 20 minutes. I gradually felt worse and worse for Lucy, and this definitely isn't one of those books where you are going to hate all of the characters.

There are a whole lot of secrets that slowly unravel as you read, and I think I gasped a little every time something else happened. Maybe I'm just being dramatic, but I really didn't suspect any of the twists until they were revealed, and a couple of them were quite surprising. I was pretty much on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what was going to happen with Lucy and the money, and I would certainly say A Face in the Crowd is paced very well.

Final Thought: This book is such a solid book, and I am so glad I read it. I have never read anything by Wilkinson before, but I loved his writing style and his approach in this book. I can't wait to read more by him, and definitely recommend checking out A Face in the Crowd if you like quick, compulsive mystery reads with a twisty ending.
