This is the first book I have read by this author and it was quite enjoyable.

Tongued with Fire is a mystery about Frank Renfield, Baron Renfield of Renfield Hall, who will go to any lengths to preserve his noble heritage.

He along with his wife Carole, concoct a plan to marry their daughter to Karl Langer, a young American millionaire. Unfortunately for her parents, Jessica is in love with Alan Lavender, a handsome, but crude young man.

When Alan’s uncle is found murdered, suspicion immediately falls on Frank as a result of his uneasy relationship with the man. The Renfields throw a lavish birthday party for Carole, but the evening is tainted when Alan is killed and a young man shoots himself dead. And things take a sharp turn for the worse when another, unconnected, murder is laid at Frank’s door.

This had a very strong start and I was really into it. Tongued With Fire made for an intriguing story for sure. I thought the beginning was most excellent and the rest remains enjoyable to say the least.

I had a very hard time finishing this book. It was very hard to engage with any of the characters, none of them is ever fully fleshed out and I found the main characters thoroughly unlikeable.
. I found the plotting to be too complicated, There is just so much going on with plotlines all over the place that I could not follow it at times and lost interest.
This book just was not for me, and while I cannot recommend it, but did finish it,

Baron Renfield of Renfield Hall has problems - a financial crisis, in fact, together with a need to preserve his heritage. His answer is to marry off his daughter to an Amercian millionaire - a plan not without its problems. Very enjoyable mystery, well written and entertaining, deftly plotted.and atmospheric.

Once again i must thank the Author publishers and NetGalley for providing a Kindle version of this book for me to read and honestly review.
This is a quality modern day murder mystery but with an old fashioned feel. Well written and entertaining with excellent characterisation throughout, plenty of plot twists and turns, certainly more than enough for this reader at any rate. Authentic and engaging from first to last page.
Highly recommended.

I liked this novel a lot. The characters were well developed and the plot is engaging, with the added bonus of various strings to untangle and follow.

A story about the trials and tribulations of an aristocrat in the 21st century. Poor Frank has a title and what's left of an estate, but no money. What he has got, various people are trying to take from him - from his pretty daughter, by a penniless artist, his money (that he hasn't got) by a blackmailer, and even his title. To add insult to injury, the local police think he could be a murderer.

Enjoyed it immensely

Baron Renfield, the proud owner of Renfield Hall, has serious problems. He is bankrupt and both his wife and the Baron want to keep their estate and their way of living but there seems to be no straightforward solution unless...his rebellious daughter marries a very wealthy American. But the daughter has no such intentions because she is madly in love with Alan Lavender, the nephew of Guy Lavender, a mean book antiquarian. Guy discovers some hidden secrets in the Renfield family their historical past and attempts a spot of blackmail. When Guy is found murdered suspicion falls on Baron Renfield. But it is not the only enigma. There is the story of an incident in Renfield's past when he was an officer, there is a ghost somewhere and there is another murder and a suicide...so there is really a lot going on. But it works. The characters are well developed and the storyline is, albeit not always straightforward, easy to follow and keeps one's interest. And although it takes place in the present, there is a bit of an interbellum atmosphere.
If you are not looking for a psychological thriller with gory details and really depraved characters but for a good mystery with a certain charm, then this is definitely a very good choice.

Tongued With Fire by Norman Russell

Crime, murder, debt, revenge, family, image, obsession, past impacting the present...so many emotions and motivations in this book!

Lord Renfield is in debt and the only way he can see a solution to solve his money woes is to marry off his daughter to a wealthy man. He has a man in mind but his daughter is definitely not interested. The man Jessica IS interested in is…something else, indeed. Jessica’s mother projects the perfect image of a baroness but seems to have a dark side...and BOY is it dark! Renfield’s past as an officer comes into play and almost plays him. There is a LOT going on in this book with strings to follow and untangle with some leading to new clues that lead to other threads until the very end. It kept me on my toes from beginning to end and I enjoyed following the story, the characters and trying to figure out what would happen next and how the story would be wrapped up in the end. If there is anything I would like a bit more of it would be to know some of the characters and their back stories a little bit better.

Thank you to NetGalley and Matador-Troubador Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC. The book was a slow burn for me. It started off a tad dull and built up as it went along. Overall, I enjoyed it!! It is a multi-murder mystery that takes place in present day. The house and family history were fascinating. My one issue is that we could have gotten to know some of the characters more.

3.5 stars!
