The projects in this book use a particular brand of yarn called ra-ra raffia but I would think you could use whatever yarn you can get your hands on.

The final products are simple but nice, and are suitable for everyday use. I can’t comment on how good the instructions are because following crochet pattern instructions are a nightmare to me, to be honest! There are some pictorial step by step which always are a great help ( says this mostly visual person.)

Really liked these patterns and ended up making one—was easy to follow and the project turned out great using non-raffia yarn

I am a craftaholic. I love making things from scratch. This book shows 10 beautiful patterns using raffia yarn. The patterns are easy to follow and shows pictures along the way. Great book for the crochet fans.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.

Lovely inspiring book! Great instruction and enough projects to interest me to make it worthwhile, I'm especially interested in the hat pattern. I love crocheting with yarn, and this book has inspired me to try using raffia.

The projects on this book are beautiful. I do not think it has a good cover. If it wasn't that I got a free copy from NetGalley I would have not picked the book at a book store. And I would have miss all this great patterns and ideas.

This book is nicely put together with good photographs of the projects. The projects are all cute and contemporary and are made with basic stitches and simple construction. One downside is that crocheters will need to do some math to figure out the yardage needed for each project if not using the branded raffia.. Worth the pric.

This is most definitely not your mother's crochet! Today's crafters tend to frown on crochet as an old woman's craft. This book is only one of the many examples that show the craft is just as up to date and trendy as any other. I've crocheted or "hooked" many projects using different types of fibers, but had not tried raffia. I already had a few patterns using raffia, just had not tried them.
Now...this book would make you try your hand at any project using any fiber. The patterns and information are presented in a really fun, entertaining manner. As a crafter, it was enjoyable just to read the book itself. The patterns are presented in a clear, easy to understand and follow format with plenty of photos and diagrams to help if you can't figure out what the pattern is saying. The projects range from simple to complex, there's something here for every skill level. I'd love to see more of my project books written in this manner.

An invaluable book for anyone wanting to crochet with a different medium. Raffia makes such attractive bags that I've already tried a couple of the patterns and they are wonderful!

This is an interesting look at working with raffia yarn. I'm personally not a fan of raffia. I think it's coarse and uncomfortable to work with, but I haven't tried the raffia from Wool and the Gang, so I can't say anything about that.

The book is as amusing as the company itself. The titles of the projects are cute and quirky, as are the names of the yarns used. The photography is really good, and the projects are practical and things that people may want to make, so that's always a plus. The layout is nice and the instructions seem pretty clear. There are also handy diagrams, explanations for basic stitches, and helpful tips for working with the raffia.

If raffia is your thing, this is a good project book. I'd say the projects may work with other types of ribbon yarns, hemp, sisal, or cording, but I haven't tried any of the projects for myself. Too many ideas, too little time.

This book is a great beginner book, for crocheters looking to make some thing beyond a simple scarf.

Great pictures and illustrations and easy to follow instructions for the new crocheter as well a a seasoned crocheter. Excellent reference book. Dissappointed that the review period was so short.

Wool and the Gang have created ten patterns using raffia yarn. I did have a Google search and such yarn isn’t readily available so it’s likely you’ll buy it from them (they’re UK-based).
The projects are for accessories ranging from the simple - a plant hanger and cup holders / to more advanced such as a hat and backpack. They’re divided into three levels.
The instructions are in UK crochet terms and seem clear and straightforward. There is explanation in the back of the book of basic crochet techniques - from simple stitches to how to do a magic loop. There are also video tutorials.
I’m going to make the hat and will update this review when I’ve done it, but this seems a nice accessible book for raffia-lovers!

Brilliant ideas! I found it a bit odd to crochet with paper yarn at fist, but really liking it, and I found the book very inspirational. Wish there were more patterns and more colours to choose from in this ‘yarn’ type, but would certainly highly recommend the book! Easy to follow patterns and nice pictures!

I found this work very interesting. I had a rough time finding the yarn but have some coming in the mail. In the meantime, I am making short-brimmed floppy hats out of the sari silk ribbon yarn from Darned Good Yarn. It has been a couple - or more like six - years since I picked up a crochet hook - thank you for getting me 'hooked' again. There are several projects detailed here I want to do. The placemat is interesting and I have to have the shopping bags - Thanks again~!

I received a free electronic copy of this instructional book from Netgalley, Wool and the Gang, and SewandSo. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this book of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work.

I love the projects in this book. I am teaching myself to crochet and the instructions are fairly easy for me to understand. I especially like that market bag and would like to attempt that project.
Many thanks to F-W Media and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
