Raffia Crochet is a wonderfully designed book. The instructions are well-written and the ten patterns are accompanied by color photographs. They supply diagrams for the various stitches, and clearly-defined terminology and instructions are included. This book will be useful to someone who is new to crochet as well as the more experienced. I can recommend this book - I enjoyed the projects.

In this book, designers for Wool and the Gang have gathered ten patterns that use their yarn Ra-ra-raffia. Most of the designs are for accessories and things for around the house, like a placemat, backpack, or shopping bag. The first pattern is for a hat that actually does look like it would be perfect for summer. I've been a crocheter and a knitter for a long time, but I had never heard of raffia being used like yarn to make projects. Other than the plant hanger, I actually liked the projects in this book; they seem very functional (although I wish the placemat was rectangular and not round). I could see how for specific items, especially the bags, raffia could be a good material from which to make them. The patterns are mostly simple and straightforward. For a few of them, there are instructions given how to jazz them up a little with some applique. If you've done much crocheting, there's little here that's beyond your reach. There is a section in the back that does give some description of technique, like how to do a magic loop. The book is limited with only ten projects. I also felt that there was some inconsistency in how the patterns were written. But if you are interested in some basic raffia crochet projects, you might enjoy this book.

Raffia Crochet is a delightful book for anyone who wants to try something different. The instructions are well-written and the ten patterns are accompanied by color photographs. In many instances almost every step is illustrated, there are diagrams for the various stitches, and clearly-defined terminology is included. The final products are outstanding

This book will be useful to someone who is new to crochet as well as the more experienced. I highly recommend this book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

Really unique craft book, and I’ve read many crochet/knit books over the years. Easily crafted items for those who are familiar with crocheting or even if you’re a beginner. Items like the hat and the bag look easy enough and perfect accessory for summer sun and fun. The only drawback is the authors are from the United Kingdom, which is important if you plan on ordering yarn from them.
I received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for my volunteer review and any opinions expressed here are my own.

While I would give five stars already for the name Wool and the Gang, this book is genuinely awesome. It gave me, a person with very little crafting ability, hope for the future. I am so inspired by independent companies that are still passionate about making long lasting, sustainable products instead of churning out rubbish. More importantly though, I'm inspired by a company willing to share that knowledge with me.
I found the entire book easy to follow and was so grateful for the more detailed tutorial bit at the end with different techniques including knots which I've always found challenging. I will try a Money Honey purse very soon.

Woolandthegang.com Designers created this instructional book to demonstrate techniques of creating with Raffia. A wood fiber yarn , raffia, is waterproof strong material that is easy to use in projects that could be made with regular wool, cotton and synthetic yarn. The book shows step by step instructions for 10 different projects to get you started crafting. Techniques and instructions are complimented by full color photography that often show each step. The book provide and excellent background section on crocheting, embroidery and macrame techniques used in the projects. This is an excellent beginners introduction to the craft and inspiration for more accomplished crafters.

After reading through all the various patterns I’ve determined they are all beginner user friendly. What I really like about it is they use fairly easy stitches and even give diagrams at the back of the book on how to do those stitches! I think I would love to give the placemat and plant hanger a try. Every thing in this book involves something you would actually use, whether it be a hat or bag, and it’s eco friendly. I have heard great things about wool and the gang so I will definitely be checking out more by them. Easy to read and follow, I think all skill levels in crochet would benefit from adding this one to their collections.

Super crochet book! Excellent illustrations, understandable directions and patterns, which are practical and easy to make. Prior to reading this book I'd only seen raffia as a decorative item for Christmas and gift packages, but now I see lots of potential for it as a "yarn" to use in all manner of crocheted items. Strongly recommend.

I actually really liked this. I thought that the book was very easy to follow and that a decent amount of the projects were really cute and I found myself wanting to try them out.

Raffia Crochet has ten projects that have easy to follow instructions. The patterns are to be used with raffia yarn. I haven’t used this yarn and this book provides many ideas to try something different. There are several items that are useful for the summertime.

What an interesting concept! I haven't crocheted in a while (I usually knit), but don't enjoy handling wool during the summer months and find the idea of working with raffia intriguing. The projects are well explained and are accompanied by large and colorful pictures, along with clear instructions and ideas for adding embellishments The projects range from easy to intermediate, so they would be accessible for new crochet learners as well as experienced, perhaps lending themselves to fun summer camp projects. #RaffiaCrochet #NetGalley

There's not a huge selection of patterns, and one is basically half macrame, but this book has drawn my attention to the existence of raffia. I have never seen it in local stores, but will be keeping an eye out in the future, as it looks like exactly the kind of material perfect for summer hats and bags. I did like some of the bags, and a hat, and would definitely consider picking up some raffia if I see it to attempt these projects. They all look to be beginner friendly, minus the not so crochet macrame plant hanger (which I'm not clear on how to attempt to be honest). This has some good ideas, I just wish it had more, and maybe clearer instructions on how to crochet-macrame.

Raffia yarn is a wood based fiber, vegan, water repellent and 100% biodegradable. That being said, the patterns in this book cater to those who would prefer to use Raffia (farmers’ market bags, sun hats suitable for regular wear, etc.). The patterns are well laid out and interesting, but it is important for crocheters to remember that the yarn in this book is NOT easily exchangeable for other yarns. You really need to be using Raffia to complete these.

A simple book with just a few patterns, mostly for a variety of bags/wallets/purses.
I picked up some Raffia yarn last month with the intention of making myself a new beach hat.
There is a great pattern for a sun hat in here and I can't wait to modify it slightly and make myself one for the summer months!
If you are unfamiliar (or just getting started) with crochet there is a great breakdown of the basics in the back of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and F+W Media for this DRC.

This book provides patterns for using raffia yarn from Wool and The Gang. I have never used raffia yarn but have wanted to try it for a long time. This book detail instructions for 10 projects using raffia yarn, as well as details of basic crochet stitches, and knotting techniques (typically used for macramé) used for some of the patterns in the book. The instructions were very clear and love the patterns presented in the book. A great book for those who want to learn to work with Raffia yarn. Really interesting book. Will be buying the book when it is published.
