Loved this!

Porter follows the lifes of 3 very different women - all of who may be seen to have some great quality/thing.... but what is the reality?

Its not obvious until the end how the 3 characters are linked but when they do it is fantastic!

Strong relatable characters, fast paced story, funny.... would definitely recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review :-)

Very funny story of friendships and relationships. Made me laugh out loud at times. Enjoyed the story and would read other books by this author.

Funny, fresh and empowering! The story of two mothers dealing with the challenges of being working mums whilst also grappling with relationship and body issues. This book made me laugh, but also touched my heart. Lighthearted whilst still making a statement.

This was wonderful; a very funny and warm read that I would recommend for fans of Marian Keyes's writing.

This is actually the first time I've read a book by Dawn O'Porter, despite very much enjoying her journalism and TV presenting over the years, and I loved this story so much I finished it within 24 hours.

Telling the story of three main women and a few secondary characters, SO LUCKY digs into the world of women today, and how we experience viewing ourselves and our lives through the lens of others. It doesn't shy away from examining how we think we are failing at things, be they at home or at work or just at life in general. It also takes a sharp look at how social media and our need to cater for the expectations of others can affect our mental health and our day-to-day lives. But at what cost...?

This book pulls no punches in its honesty about women's feelings and the things that they do (or don't do). I found it so beautifully honest in its detail, the writing consistently deeply touching while at the same time being wonderfully funny in many places. Every character felt real to me, and the women drew sympathy and understanding, even when they weren't always doing things the reader may agree with or condone. But that's part of what makes this book so wonderful.

It's rare for me to finish an entire book within a day any more, but that's what I did. Started reading in bed at about 11.30 last night and finished at about 3pm today while out in the garden. Brilliant.

I'm a hugely character driven reader, an unfortunately a cast of pretty unlikeable characters was a turn off for me.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. It made me laugh out loud so many times, I didn’t want it to end!
It’s so well written with fabulous empowering female characters and such a clever story. It had the perfect mix of fascinating back stories, angst, humour & strong females. The author has perfectly captured the complexities of women and how their outward persona fails to reflect the person within. Ruby, Beth and Risky will stay with me for a long time to come.
Another success for Dawn after The Cows - it’s a huge five stars from me!

I used to read the author’s articles in ‘Glamour’ magazine some years ago and I remember enjoying them so I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately it didn’t quite live to my expectations.

The book tries to deal with a variety of issues affecting women’s lives in the era of social media, including body image, mental health, juggling a career and family life, intimate relationships. The potential for a great novel was there, but on the whole the book didn’t deliver and the crude, vulgar language during certain sections grated on me. For most of it, I felt it deserved 2 stars, but a fairly satisfactory ending and the fact that it made for an easy read, bumped it up to 3.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a free ecopy in exchange for an honest and impartial review.

Enjoyable read with some fun characters that many will relate to. In places I felt like I was reading a script rather than a book, and could really imagine this as a TV show film. My first Dawn O'Porter book and I would be keen to read more.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the 3 different stories which merged into one at the end. I enjoyed The Cows and this one didn’t disappoint. I found the story funny in places and it made me laugh. Being a mother I can identify with Beth and Ruby.
I would recommend this book.

Ruby, Beth and Lauren are all strong women who have different visions for their life. Their current lives are all different. Beth has recently had baby Tommy her husband is no longer physically interested in her. Ruby is a, now, single mum of 3 year old Bonnie. Ruby hates her body due to polycystic ovary syndrome which had caused excess hair. Whilst Lauren is a social media influencer who is waiting to get married to the famous Gavin Riley. All Lauren wants is likes, to be perfect through photoshopping photos and to be sponsored for her online content. However are they all happy with their lives and dreams? Can they overcome their demons? And do these woman have anything in common?

This book found its way into my emails from netgalley. The description of the book drew me in alongside the short and snappy title. Due to the black and white halves of the cover I thought this book would be about race although I was wrong. Something this book explores throughout never judge a book by its cover (no one is ever as they seem and their life is u nlikely to be perfect)

This book covers some very emotional but modern topics which is essential to be spoken about. This book really turns traditions, old beliefs and values on their head to fit into modern society. Such as airbrushing, how the media can falsely report, divorce, single parent hood, sex, emotional abuse and blackmail as well as being stifled in a relationship amongst other things. All of these topics are written with power and gusto in a book that challenges the media, airbrushing and young woman's perspectives of success. This book should be circulated amongst the young adults and older teens to improve self esteem, body image and mental wellbeing.

The characters are all loveable in their own way. You can see they are all clawing at the pages for their story, thoughts, feelings and ideas to be heard. Although you never suspect theywill ever know each other. At the beginning you feel like this is just three woman's stories. It isn't until the wedding that you realise their lives may entwine. To provide a beautiful sistership ending of woman supporting woman. As well as their being no images of who you have to be friends with. The most unlikely friends may be the best.

Particularly It is lovely to be so invested (Ruby has a larger proportion of the book) in seeing going from a mother who drops her child with their dad and at nursery to being a mummy who can show of her body, even with her excess hair, play games and have days out. Watching her gain strand confidence in her role and body. I have this condition and it is great to see it in such a positive book.

This is not a quick read book purely due to the subject matter you will find you have to be in the mood to pick this book up. Although it is well worth taking the time to delve in. You won't be disappointed.

I would love to read a follow on to find out how the three of them are getting on with their new lives and to follow their challenges.

Amusing, sad and funny....a whole range of emotions in this. Not the fluffy read you are probably expecting!

After reading the cows I kind of knew was I was going to get with this book and it did not disappoint. Perfect easy reading story with a twist. Dawn deserves all the praise she has had for this book. Highly recommend.

Brilliantly funny and great characters. I loved the way she handled social media in this book and it made me smile as well as a little bit wound up. The lesson here is we never really know people and shouldn't judge.
An wonderfully eclectic mix of characters. A great, interesting and satisfying read.

So Lucky follows the lives of 3 women. Ruby, a single mother with a condition that affects her appearance, struggles to form a bond with her child. She makes a living digitally enhancing photos. Beth a new mum who's returned to work to finish putting together a wedding for an Instagram influencer. She's struggling with her post partum body image and her relationship with her husband. Then there is Lauren the Instagram star, about to be married, who is trying to put on a front for her followers as to how perfect her life is.
This book sounded like it would be right up my street. I like Dawn's humour and although this book had a few laugh out loud moments it didn't have as much comedy as I was expecting. I didn't feel the story got going till the last quarter and I didn't really like the characters a great deal. I found Ruby quite cold. I liked how the characters all became linked at the end and formed some solidarity. This book also highlights some serious issues which were handled well. It also shows that life behind the phone screen isn't so rosy as people male out. Overall an OK story but maybe it just wasn't for me

I’ve read Goose and Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O’Porter, which I really enjoyed and looked forward to reading this book.
I think I thought it would be in a similar vain to the two aforementioned books, but it isn’t and that’s all right as this was a great read.

There are three main characters, Ruby, Beth and Lauren - with a side order of Risky, Beth’s assistant.
Ruby has a physical condition that she finds extremely hard to cope with and is shamed by it. She self isolates, wear heavy long clothes to cover herself up but her job is to change the photographic images of already beautiful woman. She had been married for a short time but she couldn’t forgive him after he said something on their wedding day. She has a three year old daughter from the marriage who she finds hard to connect to and manage. Her daughter spends time with her father on a regular basis and he does try to communicate with Ruby but she brushes him off.

Beth is a successful woman who runs Prefect Wedding a business that coordinates the whole wedding day. She is a mature mother of a four month old baby with a husband who has lost all interest in her as a woman. She is finding her husband’s lack of interest in sex (though their problems clearly run deeper) is praying on her mind constantly.
Lauren is a “social media influencer” and about to be married to celebrity Gavin, who’s life also is lived in the spotlight. Her life is lived on Instagram as she shows off her perfect life and body to adoring fans, but the rumours about her fiancé just won’t go away.

They are all in some way involved in selling images of woman’s perfection.

This book looks at how we manipulate and are manipulated. It looks at unrealistic expectation of perfect lives and bodies. It takes dig at how celebrities try to tell us they are ‘’keeping it real’’ whilst all the time they have had ‘’procedures’’ done and their images ‘’digitally altered’’

The book is about accepting we are all different and looking at how we can accept ourselves as well as others.

Mediocre, try-hard, fake feminist, cringeworthy, insult-fest.
I don't like the author and now I don't like her book. It's a no from me.

I try not to read books written by celebrities as I am often disappointed, and I did not want to be disappointed being a big fan of Dawn O’Porter. But what can I say, this book was fabulous!
I absolutely loved the characters, flaws and all. Ruby. being a damaged character, reminded me so much of Eleanor Oliphant and it was nice to be able to fully understand her stand offish behaviour. Risky was hilarious! Beth was great too, and I loved the way in which the characters interlinked.
I loved the naughty bits which had me roaring with laughter. I didn’t know what to expect with this book, but I did not expect this, and it was amazing! I’m eager to read Dawn’s next book now.

Didn’t like it! It was a bit abrupt, and I found it less than interesting. I tend to prefer more literary work, so probably just not my thing.

This is not my usual style of book, however I found it very easy to read and very engaging. The characters were easy to buy into and to support although I found the start of Ruby's story to be a bit upsetting.

I read this book very quickly to see what was going to happen, I does a good job of reminding you that everyone is different but we all face similar battles. It also encourages you to love yourself and be the best you, that you can be.

Enjoyed very much.
