The Fairy in the Kettle Gets Magical is a wonderful fantasy picture book by a Scottish author. It's full of beautiful pastel illustrations and has an uplifting and sweet storyline of the fairies of Bramble Glen. It's vibrant and warm, and I'm sure children will love this! There's a great message of importance of friendship, community and working together to find what you're looking for. Pauline Tait has a way with words that make the story flow beautifully - truly enjoyable book.

This is an astounding children's book: the pictures are gorgeous and lovely, the story is incredible and the rhymes and stylistic devices make it such a poetic text! I also loved the plot and all the topics that were encapsulated into this amazing fairy tale: friendship, discovering each other, sharing, going on a quest, ...

You and your child will enjoy the time spent with each other as you discuss the magical scenes and delightful story of lost fairy dust stolen by pixies long ago. The Fairy in the Kettle Gets Magical - Pauline Tait
Illustrated by Debbie Bellaby

Have you ever hidden something so well, you had to turn your room inside out to find it again? You have? Well this happens to a lovely group of fairies and their fairy dust. After so many years of keeping the dust hidden they simply forgot where they hid it. 🧚‍♀️ 🧚‍♂️

My daughter read this as a bedtime story last night. She loved how the fairies search far and wide to find the dust they had kept hidden from the mischievous pixies. The illustrations were beautifully done. My daughter was able to grasp what was happening easily following along with the illustrations. It showed her how persevering in a task will eventually bring out an outcome and that nothing is ever truly lost.

Have you ever hidden something away for safekeeping, only to forget where you'd put it when you went back to look for it later? That's the basic premise of this story. Long ago, to keep their fairy dust out of the hands of the pixies, the elder fairies hid it away somewhere. Well, fast forward many years, and the fairies are starting to run low on dust. They need to replenish their supply, but nobody can remember where they stashed the stuff! The plot of the book basically revolves around the fairies searching for--and eventually finding--the dust. That's it. There's no conflict, no villain (other than forgetfulness and possibly fairy dementia), and the resolution is so easy that it's extremely unsatisfying. Leona literally looks up, sees a cave behind the waterfall, and figures out where the fairy dust is.

The illustrations might be my favourite part of this book. They're colourful and fun to look at. I especially liked the fairies holding their noses as they flew into the musty-smelling cave. (For some reason, though, the illustrator isn't credited on the cover. When a picture book depends so heavily on the illustrations, it's nice to give the person who made them a little more credit!)

The writing is okay, although there are a few questionable word and punctuation choices. The book's main weakness, though, is simply the lack of an engaging story. This book can supposedly stand on its own, but I have a feeling the first book in the series is a little more interesting. A fairy who lives in a kettle is already far more intriguing than a bunch of forgetful fairies flying around trying to find some misplaced dust.

I loved all the bright and beautiful pictures in this book. There was so much to look at and feast your eyes upon and I suspect a reader will find different things to look at each time they re-read this book. I suspect more than one child will turn to this book for their Halloween costume with all the captivating pictures of fairies, pixies and fireflies, . The font was fun, but still easy to read. The only thing to note about the story is that some of the sentences may be a bit too long for new readers, but overall a delightful book.

The Fairy in the Kettle Gets Magical by Pauline Tait. Illustrated by Debbie Bellaby. SilverWood Books (Bristol, UK). Children’s Fiction. Publication date: 07 May 2019. 5 Stars.

Another fabulous children’s fantasy picture book in the Fairy in the Kettle series from Scottish author Pauline Tait, the third in the series. Magical, imaginative, vibrant, warm, happy-colored art that transports us to a dancing land of enchantment as we join the close community of the Bramble Glen fairies on their adventure to stop the pixies from stealing their fairy dust—with a little help from their friends, the fireflies!

Excitedly looking forward to the forthcoming fourth book in the Fairy in the Kettle series.
