I was never quite sure where this book was heading and that’s a great thing! I was guessing all along the way and for me that’s part of the fun, when reading this genre. Nothing is given away and nothing is held back either. Hard to explain and I’m not sure how she does it but it’s sooo damn good. I so appreciate how all the characters are with you the whole time. There’s no oh hey guess who it’s Uncle Tom that’s made this whole mess that’s only introduced on the last page. I’m so bad at this lol but the way that things unfold are complex but don’t seem complex.. it it timing perhaps? I don’t know. It’s like you’re getting answers so you’re able to be patient until the end mostly but also are too dumb to realize you still don’t know lol I love when stories end like this one did. It’s dessert with a side of dessert. Great, great book. Thanks so much for the awesome work you do

This is the 5th book I have read by Shalini Boland and it did not disappoint. I received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest opinion and boy this story through me for a loop.

It starts off simple enough. Jake and Faye go on holiday with their son Dylan; taking Jake's sister Lainie and her husband and two girls with them. But their holiday is set back in their hometown when they were kids. A lot of secrets are there so the book goes back and forth from now to then. But it is easy to follow. Before they are ready to leave Jake takes his son Dylan on a morning outing for father and son time and does not return. The story then covers the task of finding out what happened to them. Did they get hurt? Were they kidnapped? The police get involved and everyone is frantic.

So just when you thought you knew where the story was headed....It.Takes.A.Huge.Detour.....
Never did I see this story line coming and was totally thrown off. This book will be out July 8; place it on your TBR list! You'll be glad you did.

OMG! What a story! Another exciting thriller to get lost in, which I just LOVED!! Faye and her brother-in-law have planned a seaside surprise for their loved ones (their spouses are siblings). Except, their spouses are not happy to be at the seaside - the sight of their childhood. Yep, the surprise is a not a good one. So, they decide to pack it up and leave. Only, on the day they are supposed to leave Faye's husband (Jake) and son go missing. Say what? Talk about a nightmare vacation! As we get flashbacks to the time when Faye's husband was a teenager, we learn about his past and its not a good one. And as the story unfolds, we learn that maybe Jake isn't really missing after all. That's all I will share, because this was such a good story. You have to read it for yourself! Loved it!!

Wow what an absolute mind f***..... Jake and Lainey grew in the small seaside town of Swannage, their respective spouses decided that they would surprise them with a small break away there as they hadn't been back in 17 years... nostalgia doesn't exactly appear to be the case when things go horribly wrong from start to finish...... When Jake and his son fail to return from an early morning dolphin viewing outing, Faye gets worried, eventually having to report them missing to the local police.... a massive search ensues..... will she be able to cope with what they find?? Its hard to say much more without giving away too much but suffice to say this is one rollercoaster of emotions, twists and turns you are not going to want to miss.....an unputdownable psychological thriller which will leave you reeling....

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Faye Townsend plans a surprise birthday holiday to Swanage the hometown of her husband Jake, with their son Dylan and Jake's sister Lainey, husband Tom and their twins.

Jake doesn't seem too thrilled with the trip but goes along with it. When they arrive the house is very eerie, the children are frightened and the adults a little unsure, but they throw themselves into it. Although Faye and Tom are picking up that something must have happened when Jake and Lainey were younger in which is making them uneasy.
Jake decides to take Dylan dolphin watching, inviting Faye along but she feels it would be a good father/ son bonding activity so stays back at the house.

When Jake and Dylan fail to return hours later, they have no choice but to call the police. A big search party is set up focusing around the cliffs. The police discover blood and Dylans red cap, sending Faye into panic and fearing for her son's life.
What a fantastic book, it has lots of revelations and secrets unfold. Then at the end a big unexpected whammy.

Shalini Boland can definitely tell a story at times taking my breath away and making me gasp in surprise.
Such a good twist.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this brilliant book. x

I put all other books on hold when I received this ARC as I love the devious Shalini Boland mind! This new novel is just as good, if not better, than all the previous ones. With a well developed plot, good character development, a betrayed wife to cheer for - until everything we think we know gets turned upside down. Had me fooled!

Gripping, intense, heart in mouth moments, characters that you love to hate and so many twists and turns. What is there not to like?

Faye's husband Jake doesn't like surprises so it's fair  to say that when she plans a secret birthday holiday to the seaside town where he spent his childhood he's not overly thrilled! He does however agree to take their son Dylan dolphin spotting but when neither of them return the holiday turns from fraught to terrifying in a heartbeat.

The English south coast area is described very well as is the gradual understanding that something serious might have happened to Faye's family. With her husband's sister, Lainey and brother in law Tom, she tries to recall any small detail to help the police but if those same small details are kept secret then what happens?

There are, of course, twists and turns along the way, some of which escaped me until the very end whereas others gradually came to light and, along with the final scenes, were very satisfyingly done.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys well written and researched psychological thrillers with engaging characters and enjoyable, tightly executed scenes and dialogue.

Thank you to Netgalley for this advanced copy.

This is the first time I am reading a book by the author Shalini Boland, and I selected the book based on the description.

It had me hooked since the beginning. Story revolves around family going on a vacation, and then the father and kid goes missing. I would not say more and spoil the suspense.

The book is fast paced which I like and the end was something I would not have guessed.. Must read..... Looking forward to reading more books by this author.

This was a pretty good quick read. It is a chilling story of a family who goes on holiday and a woman finds herself dealing with her missing husband and son. There are a lot of twists and turns and I definitely didn’t guess a few twists. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.

This is my first time reading a book by Shalini Boland and I went on the cover alone at first, the description had me wanting to start reading straight off! The tagline #DaddyHasBeenLying. Ohhhh such suspense in those four little words.!
The Marriage Betrayal did not disappoint.
My initial instinct that this was going to be a good Physcological Thriller, it was everything I want- a good storyline that was easy to get gripped by from the start, hard to put down!
Shocking twist plot, but not just one.... A few! Without any spoilers- this was one of my favourite storylines this year, you genuinely could not of seen the plot twists coming!
Likeable characters- easy to connect, imagine, sympathise, like and hate.!

Come the last few chapters, being a mother myself I could feel the genuine love Faye has for her son and yet feel the torment she is going through. It was very well written and not in any way rushed. I can't explain more without justifying what I mean without adding any spoilers, so I shall leave it there.

The epilogue was just the final shocker in the book, wow. Good last little touch. The Marriage Betrayal is everything you want and need in a very....very good Physcological Thriller.
5 Stars from me!

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review, thank you NetGalley!

I absolutely loved this book and will recommend it time and time again. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not put it down. This book is a quick read. The chapters bounce from past to present which really helps with the build up of the massive twist in the story. I judge my suspense/thriller books based off of if I am able to guess the twist and I most definitely didn't with this one. 5 stars across the board. The only downside to this book is that I have to wait to get my hands on a hard copy!

A good thriller with a lot of mystery throughout. I loved the alternating chapters of past and present and raced through to find out what happened both past and present and how they were linked. A very clever and well written story xx

It's my first time reading anything by this author and what a book to start with. All the way through, you feel the worry especially from Faye and Lainey as to where Jake and Dylan are gone to and without ruining the end but I didn't expect that one. I'll be back for more of the author's books and I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased.

A perfect summer trip ends in drama -
I was given this book from NetGalley for an honest review -
On a perfect summer trip - Fayes husband and son disappear when going on a morning walk -
Did her husband and son run away or is something more sinister going on?

I love Shalini Boland and I always seem to race through her books, The Marriage Betrayal was no exception.

Faye decides to surprise her husband with a trip to his seaside home town, with his sister and her family joining them. It sounds idyllic, everything is perfect until Faye's husband, Jake and their son go missing.

Faye is out of her mind with worry as is her sister in law, Lainey. Then the police search unearths some interesting evidence, what is exactly behind Jake's disappearance? What are the ghosts of Lainey's past that she's trying to hide?

This was a really gripping plot, with lots of twists and turns, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review it - this is my honest opinion.
