I received A Very French Affair by Sue Roberts as an ARC from NetGalley. A Very French Affair is a fun summer read. Liv is a single mom to 20-year-old Jake and a baker in England. Jake was conceived when she was visiting her aunt in France and had a summer romance. She never told his father about him and has never tried to find him. Liv's aunt is having surgery and Liv decides to go to France to help her with her bakery while she is recovering. While she is there she decides to see if she can find Jake's father, Andre. This was a very enjoyable light read.

A very easy book to read. Sun, cake and long lost love. Treat yourself to this gem and get whisked away to the South of France. Loveable characters throughout, mouth watering descriptions of food and plenty of beautiful scenery. A very enjoyable read.

A great summer read that will make you smile and want cake

Life just got a whole lot more complicated for thirty-eight-year-old single mum Liv. Her son Jake is practically perfect in every way, but he’s started asking some difficult questions, and the answers lie in a holiday romance twenty years ago. Back when Liv was staying with her aunt on the French Riviera…

Returning to the Cote d’Azur, with its white sandy beaches, her supportive aunt, and exquisite wine and cheese is harder than it sounds though. Because – if she’s going to give Jake the answers he needs – Liv knows she has to hunt down her first love Andre. And since she’s a professional baker rather than a professional investigator, she doesn’t even have a clue where to start.

At first, finding the one that got away proves even trickier than she thought. And if she succeeds, how will he take the bombshell secret Liv has been keeping? Liv has to do the best thing for her family, but does that mean closing the door on this very French affair?

This was a lovely and quick little romance, perfect for summer!! The end was a bit jarring, though. I didn't really like how it had a huge time jump.

A thoroughly modern read by Sue Roberts.

Liv is a single mum, with her own business and a close and loving family. Her son starts asking questions about his biological father, so Liv makes the trek back to France, where it all began. As she takes a trip into the past, she wonders about the consequences of choices that were made so long ago and if things would have been different if other choices were made? And where do they all go from here?

I really liked all these characters, they made me smile. Aunt Gen, her employees, the various people Liv runs into in the village; all these things make this story such a sweet one. The story isn't some deep and meaningful one, it is a light read with a storyline which is relatable to women of a similar age group and a lovely way to while away a few hours.

4.5 stars from me.

A lovely light romance in a beautiful setting with all the cake you can eat thrown in. What more can a girl want!!! I had never read anything by Sue Roberts before but if all her books are as good as this one I am in for a treat. I also thought that it was really refreshing that this book wasn't full of sex as most seem to be these days. You could pass this book on to your teenage sister or you grandmother without causing any offence. The final bit of icing on the cake, pun intended, was the lovely recipes at the end which I am just dying to try out.

A Very French Affair will leave a warm feeling in your heart as Liv rediscovers lost love and tries to build a new relationship with her former love. The complication of a secret child tugs at the emotions and adds an extra dimension to the plot.
Sue Roberts’ descriptions are rich and evocative so it is very easy to imagine the French setting. The theme of lost love is beautifully written and you keep your fingers crossed that Liv will get a happy ending.
It was nice to read a book about a character my own age who has a second chance at happiness and is a strong character but is still vulnerable, nursing a broken heart and wasted dreams. There is hope and the opportunity for a fresh start for all of the characters.
Overall, this was an uplifting book and a great way to kick off a summer reading list!

38- year old and single mum Livs life got more complicated. Her grown son would like to know his father, which she met during a stay while at her aunts at the French Rivera twenty some years ago. As luck has it, Liv is going on another holiday at the Cote d'Azur to help her Aunt out in the bakery after surgery. While there, Liv tries to locate the old summer flame which proves to be more difficult then expected. But will she be able to find Andre' and maybe even rekindle the romance?
The book is an enjoyable, light and fast summer read, perfect for the beach. While reading it, don't be surprised is the travel bug catches you and you want to visit the Cote d'Azur and have some wine and delicious food.

Brilliant. Liv returns to France to find the love of her life, also the father of her son. Laugh out loud moments and a feel good ending. Loved it .Good holiday reading.

I was really happy when I got a digital copy of this book through NetGalley since it sounded like the perfect summer read, and as usual I am happy to leave a review. I never realized that I had a preference in book styles, but apparently I do, because I really don't like the 1st person account, it somehow just seems to throw me off, but besides that I did not like the book as much as I thought I would. It was just too predictable and a bit slow moving, and I never lost myself in the storyline, there wasn't enough chemistry between the two main characters, instead of keeping me up and reading past my bedtime it rather put me to sleep. Overall it was a nice read, no lured sex scenes, it won't make my list of books I love to read over and over again, but it did make me hungry for sweets thought, especially a Bee Hive since that is my favorite too.

Read this one in a day! When you start reading, you just can't let go. It's a truly delightful book with all the elements of a great summer read: an interesting story, warm characters and great atmosphere..I mean, who can resist a French Riviera scenery and all the amazing food there?!. I will certainly look up for more books from this author. My recommendations,

This book was bursting with everything I love in a summer read: a beautiful setting, amazing characters, lovely friendships, and delectable treats. Oh and I cannot forget about the cherry on top... a second chance romance. If the romance is the cherry on top then the humor is the nuts, so many laugh out loud moments! Jake has recently come home from University not only is he moaning about his coursework, but he is beginning to vocalize that he really would like to get to know his father. This is complicated and requires Liv revisiting her past, France and a summer fling. When Liv’s aunt reaches out to ask her to come stay with her in France and help with her bakery, it offers the perfect opportunity for Liv to hunt down baby daddy Andre. But how will Andre react not only to seeing Liv after 20 years, but to finding out he is a father? Sounds pretty serious, but that certainly is not the tone of the story. It is a lighthearted, uplifting, fun story. Liv is a fabulous character and I loved her relationship with her friends. The setting was divine and Sue Roberts’ descriptive writing swept me away to France while reading. A quintessential Summer read that will make you smile and crave cake!

This is such a lovely story of a long-lost love, family secrets and second chances. The setting is superb as who doesn't want to read about France's Cote d'Azur? When you add a bakery and a handsome Frenchman then it's pretty much perfect. I loved Liv's aunt and her wacky friend who add a touch of colour to the book but it is the relationships that develop in the search for Liv's first love and how this will affect her son, Jake. Lovely book to curl up with in the garden or on the beach but make sure you have plenty of time as this is a book you'll want to read in one go.

Life is being very good to Olivia. She has given up an unfulfilling teaching job and has opened her own bakery. Liv has also managed to raise a son all on her own, with the aid of her parents. While visiting from university, her son, Jake, comes home a bit disillusioned about his courses. More seriously, he is bemoaning the fact that he never met his father. Liv decides to visit France, where she spent many summers with her Aunt Gen, to try and discover the whereabouts of Jake's father, Andre.

When Liv arrives at her aunt's home and bakery, her first order of business is to help her aunt while she recovers from surgery. However, in the back of her mind she knows she must begin asking around about Andre. It has been twenty years, and she has not seen him since she was eighteen years old. It was a first love for both of them, but during the summer they were together, Andre often told Liv of his desire to travel the world, and that he did.

How is Liv going to find him for Jake? As it happens, she does find Andre. So now the question is, how things will go, not just for Jake and his father, but for Liv and Andre themselves? With the support of friends Faye and Jo, Liv does the best she can to make her son happy. In so doing this gives her a chance to see where her heart, and future, lie.

What a sweet story. As much as this turned out to be a wonderful romance, there was humor included that pushed the story along. It helped to break up the seriousness of the situation of the fact that Liv had to find Andre. There was also a lot of good food in this book! Whether it was baked delicacies or fine French cuisine, it was indeed mouth-watering. I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Sue Roberts and look forward to reading more of her in the future.

First things first do not read this on an empty stomach. Sue does such a good job of describing the food in this book that your mouth will literally be watering. I am craving all sorts of food right now.

Liv is struggling as her 20-year-old son has started asking questions about his father. Live has always been honest about Jake's father but now she's not sure if she did enough to try to trace him. Liv is easy to like, she has some really great friends too. At some points, Liv is very mum like and worries quite a lot which I dd find slightly annoying but that could be me reverting back to my childhood.

I loved the relationships in this book. Liv and her son are very close as are Liv and her parents. It is lovely to see this. I also loved Liv's friends Faye and Jo. Jo has the best stories, I couldn't help but laugh at these.

This book has little drama, lots of laughs and romantic locations. The setting of this book was beautiful and I would love to go to the south of France. It sounds amazing. I can't wait to dive into Sue's other books and see where she takes me next.

This was certainly the perfect read for summer!
The characters were relatable and fun, the plot was entertaining and the setting was described in a beautiful way.
The story didn't feel unrealistic and the chemistry between the characters worked like a charm.
Truly a great book to read on a relaxing day at the beach or on your place of comfort.
Surely I will be reading Sue Roberts again.

This is a tasty treat, guaranteed to have your sweet tooth working overtime with some of the delicious cakes and bakes that feature so strongly in this heartwarming story! 

It is twenty years ago that Liv went to stay with her Aunt Gen, learning to bake and falling in love for the first time. It was only on her return home that she discovered the consequences of that love but by then her love, Andre, was travelling the world and they lost touch. Now, however, their son Jake is wanting to know more about his father. . . . . 

Liv agrees to look for Andre when she returns to stay with and look after her Aunt who is about to have an operation. Thirty-eight year old Liv now has her own cake making business and she leaves it to help run her Aunt's bakery whilst she's incapacitated. She has no idea where to start her search for Andre, but at least she's hopefully in the right country! 

This book is tagged as a beach read but, whatever the weather around you, the author takes her readers on a journey to the south of France, to eat different delicious cakes and learn a little French along the way. There are a multitude of fantastic characters in this story, including Liv's friends whose escapades definitely had me laughing out loud at times. This is a great, very entertaining, 'feel good' second chance romance that I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending - even if you're no where near a beach!
