I love reading fiction-based novels about parenting when told in a way such as it was in Lies We Tell Mothers - painfully blunt, heart-wrenchingly honest, and achingly hilarious! I could relate to so much in this book, which made it even better. I can remember feeling the same emotions, complaining about the same issues, and crying for the same reasons. I wish I had read this while I was going through the same parenting stage, I think it would have made me feel better and more sane knowing that the way I was feeling was normal and that I wasn't crazy. I laughed and commiserated throughout the whole book, I loved it! I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

If it weren’t for the last 4% of this book it would have put me off having kids for life...

I really loved this book. I still can remember the horrors of childbirth, the long and sleepless nights, and the whole hurricane of emotions that only new mothers can know. I loved authors honesty and realism, but also a feel good end of the novel.

I'm not sure why, but for some reason I was very into reading mom books at this time. This one is a nonfiction telling of one mom's journey to coming to terms with her life changing from childless and carefree to mom life.

The start of the story, as any good mom tale goes, starts with the getting pregnant and the story of the birth. All moms love to share these stories. I have never met a mom that hasn't shared some parts of these stories with me. So naturally, this is how this particular book would begin. And at first, I was not here for it. Everything was a complaint. She was about to turn 30 and thought her womb was going to turn to dust. Because she was old. I am an older mom, so I took extreme offense to this statement. My first child was a surprise when I was 34. My second was when I was 37. Putting my thoughts aside I continued on. It only took 6 weeks of trying and they got pregnant. That I don't mind, but the constant complaining and whining of all the things that she could no longer do rubbed me the wrong way again. It took me well over a year, and a miscarriage, before I was able to have my son. So for someone to be so lucky and then complain the whole time never sits right with me.

But I kept reading. And I am glad I did. Because of the above, I took away one book stack. Everything after that was a good read for me. Motherhood is hard. But motherhood is worth it. The start and middle of the story really laid out the lies that mothers are told, and the realities. Lie #23 - You Should Never Bribe Your Children (HAH! Yes you totally should because sometimes you just need to get through a moment). #25 - Second Pregnancies Are More Straightforward. Nope.

Will I look into her Bad Mom series? I probably will. Is this a good mom lit story? Yes it is. Give it a try if you are curious what mom life can be like, but remember - everyone's story is different!

Haha, good read. Funny. Witty. Engaging. But a little bit, like, seriously, did you not think this baby thing through??

This book should be a gift for every new mom. It was comical and highly relatable. We've all experienced bits of this book in our life. Read it, you won't regret it.

A great true life read. I think all expectant families should read it. The whole process of motherhood and family life laid bare. It brought back memories.

Now, I'm someone who doesnt have kids... but I absolutely loved this book! It was so funny and charming and I love how open and honest Suzy was about her life! Although, I'm sure at regular intervals throughout this book, I decided that I definitely dont want children! Haha

I was very happy to receive a copy of the book from NetGalley in return to my honest review. I requested the book because I am currently interested in reading about other women's perspective on childcare.
In her book, Lies We Tell Mothers, the author tries to go over the lies new mothers hear, such as: "Pregnancy is such a special time," "Breast is best," "Your stretch marks will go eventually. Use cocoa butter!" She uses her own experience to refute the lies but not in scientific way but in a "Let me tell you how it actually is" way. The book is well-written and it was a pleasure to read it. Unfortunately, it only lasted 3 days. I might need to pick it up again sometimes. It is a fun and entertaining read. The comments from the author's husband made the book less like a read and more of a " conversation with the friends" situation.
I highly recommend Lies We Tell Mothers to new mothers, wanna be mothers, dads and anybody who is interested!

Lies We Tell Mothers is an honest, refreshing and hilarious look into the truth about motherhood and being a parent. No sugarcoated platitudes here, just the straight truth. A book every mother should read!

Oh what a book! I love how Suzy Quinn writes such a honest and raw book about motherhood. My kids are a little older now so I found myself thinking about my pregnancies, births and those first couple years. Being young and clueless, I can still laugh at myself at things I thought and did. It’s refreshing to read a “mom” book and be like omg yes I did the same thing or omg yes I was just as delusional instead of feeling mom shamed. This book is a must read! It will have you totally giggling throughout!

Raw and hilarious tale of motherhood at its finest. With two kids of my own, I can totally relate to this book. Funny, uplifting and heartfelt, this book was a joy to read. Fast paced and honest, I highly recommend this book.
