This book was a devastating blow, one which had me reaching for the tissues constantly while reading. I fell in love with the characters and their stories and my heart is now broken.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

"A terminal diagnosis. A life-saving sacrifice. A love letter written on the walls of her heart."

*I received this book as a ARC in return for my honest review*

I read a lot of reviews before reading this book and felt like I was going to be in for an absolute tear-jerker and was mentally preparing myself for the emotions that this book would evoke.... This didn't happen.

I felt like the emotions of the characters were not portrayed and I was left feeling very deflated about this book. Not a single tear was shed and I fished this book feeling quite bored by it all!

This certainly pulls at one's heartstrings. There is a lot of sentimentality within these pages. Our h finds out that she is dying. She has the perfect life - love of a lifetime husband, devoted and perfect gay best friend, amazing parents. She believes that the essence of a person's soul resides in their heart and, as such, decides to donate her organs upon her passing. There is just one thing she wants, and that's her heart to go to someone her best friend selects that will be the perfect recipient of her heart and the steward of her love for her husband. Someone who will help him get through his loss. As such, she writes a manual explaining the intricacies of her heart and her soul and some things she wants this person to do in exchange for giving them a second chance at life. And this is where it all goes wrong for me. Let's forget that the person who gets the donated heart is going to spend months recovering, worrying about endless tests and medications, constantly fearing transplant rejection, and dealing with their own very realistic fears and emotions - now you've got to also think about fulfilling the wishes of your donor's list of things I need you to do to help pull my husband through the next year of his life in exchange for my selfless gift to you of my heart. So, dear recipient of my heart and soul, instead of focusing on living your life, if you'd instead please remember to buy my husband a fantastic Valentine's gift, drink hot chocolate with him on a thousand occasions, share his birthday with him doing for the things I would have done, build a perfect snowman and find him the best Christmas tree and go hurtling through space with him on a toboggan, maybe watch a few movies with him and by the way, please don't fall in love with him while you're at it. Maybe I need a heart transplant myself, because what should have had me in tears had me instead thinking of how selfish and full of strings this gift was.

Have your tissues ready. This is such a sad novel about a woman who knows she's dying, so she's trying to donate her organs. It's such a tear-jerker of a book, but it is so good and heart warming.

A tearjerking and sad story about a woman who knows she's dying soon and decides to donate her organs. Her only stipulation is that she get's to choose who receives her heart because she feels it's connected to her husband. It was a sad, but good read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. All Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow, no words can do this review justice. This book will break you and bring you back for more. It is so emotional that you will not want to put it down until you have read the very last word, and even then this story will stay with you.

Reminded me of Me Before You, not in terms of plot, but in terms of the beautiful way of combining tragedy and hope in one complex masterpiece.

I loved it. There can be nothing more important to say that that - I absolutely loved it. It managed to be heart-warming, not heart-breaking, and the beauty of its message absolutely took my breath away.

A truly standout book. Unique, beautiful crafted, and one that you simply must read.

This book follows the journey of Alice, who has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and is given only months to live. At only 26 years old, she makes the decision to use this impossible situation to give the gift of life to 22 others by donating her organs. Through this process we get to see the love story of Alice and her husband Alex unfold, through letters written to the recipient of her heart.

This story was incredibly touching and heartfelt. You could feel the love the characters have for each other coming off of the pages. My only critique is that the characters were a little too perfect. All of the parts of the novel where Alice is struggling with her diagnosis are glossed over. Delving into her frustration and anger in those moments would have helped to humanize her and make her character come alive.

It took me a while to get through this book just because I found it very moving and emotional in parts so needed to take a step back sometimes! I loved it all the more by not rushing, its a truly heartbreaking and uplifting read. I really travelled to pages with Alice and I was SO proud of her. Its a book you should read.

Alice is a thoroughly believable character. Her journey is both heartbreaking and heart warming. By the end you feel you really know her and are praying that she gets the results she’s praying for.
The love story between her and Alex is told beautifully in the letters to the recipient
By the end you feel like she a friend and the feeling of grief is overwhealming! Have tissues ready.

▪️MY THOUGHTS
✔️I love movies, shows & books that make me cry. The more I cry the more I will remember the story - unfortunately I didn’t cry once with this book, even though I really wanted to! The synopsis got me right away, and I thought this book would break my heart. Instead it just left me a bit confused. I really enjoyed the story that was told in present day but I couldn’t connect with the chapters where Alice was talking to the women who gets her heart. I guess I was hoping for a more P.S. I Love you vibe, whereas this story was more of an action plan for the stranger who receives Alice’s heart - I didn’t like that approach. Just the thought of the story makes me sad, but I unfortunately couldn’t connect with essentially half the book.

Thanks to NetGalley for a chance to read this book. I may have been the odd man out on this as most loved it. I just can't see myself writing my documentary when I'm dying and deciding who it is to be. I may be a selfish person and if I was to be a donor I would not intentionally choose the recipient and expect she carry on my legacy and undying love with my widowed husband.

This is a unique story about death, life and love which is well written, thought provoking and surprisingly positive. The story is told by Alice from her perspective and alternates between life now, where she is dealing with a devastating terminal diagnosis, and key moments of her life with her husband Alex. If read as a love story this is a wonderful tale of a young woman looking back on her happiest moments with her husband however the story is not that simple, these moments are detailed in a ‘manual’ for the future recipient of her heart, not so she can know it’s capability of love but so she can go some way to recreating them in some form for Alex and I have to admit it’s this concept that does not sit well with me. I’m very open minded and do believe some of the amazing tales you hear about transplantation recipients and knowing something about your donor can be a good thing, this knowledge should however be optional and not forced upon you by the donor from beyond the grave. My other concern is how Alex would feel with the recipient appearing in his life when he’s still newly grieving so he can be around his deceased wife’s heart relieving his past with her, to me it’d mess with his head rather than give him closure. So, as a love story this is great, as a thought proving book about the subject of organ donation it’s good but morally it’s on shaky ground.

This is an amazing story about true love! It is a story of a young couple who face an impossible situation.
I loved all the information about flowers and how there are flowers for every occasion.

First of all I would like to thanks netgalley and the publishers for granting me this book. This book is a very special one and i was intrigued upon reading the synopsis. This follows the journey of a woman when she came to know that she has an inoperable mass in her brain and that is is stage four terminal cancer. She was devastated and so was her entire family specifically her husband alex. It made me so emotional that icread it in one go and was sobbing like an emotional fool the whole time. When she decides to give away her functioning organs to people who would benifit from it, was completely heartbreaking. Her journey, her dreams ,her love all became a heartwrenching tale. Her heart which was chosen to be donated to a girl name helen ,came with a set of instructions for her. The last letter to helen was so beautiful that it made me cry and laugh at the same time. Its a mixture of both me before you and ps i love you. It was phenomenal and powerful story of love, loss, dreams and would have beens. It was unputdownable! I highly recommend everyone to read it atleast once.
