Lone Star Defender is one of those books that puts you under a spell and won’t let go until the very end. Jennie Jones is an amazing storyteller and if you love, drama, passion, fun, a feisty heroine and a gorgeous hero then Lone Star Defender will definitely satisfy you even when you have finished reading this amazing book. Happy reading!!

Witty, sassy and wonderfully entertaining; Lone Star Defender is a thoroughly enjoyable read and a fitting conclusion to the Calamity Valley trilogy about the feisty Mackilop women. Small town interactions add some fun and laughter along the way and the character portrayals are captivating and totally believable too. I’ve loved this series from the beginning, and Pepper’s story wraps things up nicely, and Jack’s reappearance adds some mystery and intrigue. Let’s hope there might be more to come from Calamity Valley and its quirky residents.

Pepper has returned to small town Texas, and her nemesis Jack has returned too. With her grandmother pulling the strings, and a mysterious curse hanging overhead, there is light tension here, but for the most part kept me chuckling. I enjoyed this book, and the characters, but since this was the first I've read in this series I was a little lost at times about the shady real estate developers and the tabloid newspaper. Minor overall though, and would highly recommend this book and author. Good summer read.

I really enjoyed this book though I hadn’t realized it was number three in a series. It actually gave enough back story to not spoil the prior to and to keep you understanding the continuing story line. I really loved the Mackillop family and the strong independent women in it. The town was so charming with all the wonderful characters giving it life. Though it’s a love story it’s not too fluffy and there is suspense and depth in the story line. I’m a huge fan of love stories that develop over years and this was a great one.

I definitely need to go back and read the prior two. This seemed like an amazing conclusion and I can’t wait to read the others.

The Lone Star series wraps up with Pepper and Jack’s story. Pepper and Jack were friends growing up, until the day that Pepper was humiliated in front of most of the town. She blamed Jack for her misery. She ended up leaving Reckless for several years.

Reckless ever felt like home to Jack after Pepper left, so he eventually left too. Years later, Jack felt the need to return home when his uncle indicated an interest in retiring from the family ranch. After returning home for what he thought was a short visit, Jack discovered that Pepper had moved home to reckless with hopes to revive their hometown.

They danced around each other for a while, as Pepper fought accepting her “gift” as a soothsayer. Despite their fear of being hurt, they both eventually owned up to loving the other. This book did a terrific job of wrapping up the series.

Thoroughly enjoyable to the ending of an intriguing three part series. With whip smart and wry humor, characters who resonate with realism and personality, the story flows quickly...capturing and captivating your imagination from its onset. Hopefully this won’t be the last we see of Calamity Valley.

I loved this final installation of the Calamity Valley series. In fact I think Pepper’s and Jack’s story is my favorite of all three (though I enjoyed them all). Like her cousins, Pepper reluctantly returns to the valley with the weight of saving her hometown on her shoulders. She is thrown together - by her grandmother and circumstance - with Jack Shepperd, her crush/nemesis of childhood (and he had secretly loved her), who also appears back in town at the same time. Pepper is reluctant to take on the role of town savior yet can’t seem to stop herself and Jack is tasked with keeping an eye on her. The final confrontation with the great grandfathers is spectacular and we see that Jack seems to have a gift of his own, though it isn’t discussed in detail. Like her cousins, Pepper comes into her own and gets her HEA.

Exciting conclusion to the Calamity Valley series. Of course, the best was saved for last. The Mackilops are a feisty bunch of women. Pepper is the last one to fulfill the GG prophesy.

Jack is back in town with a small secret about the past. A secret that changed the course of both his and Pepper's life.

This was a fun read with the townspeople providing great entertainment with they're open quirky ways.

Pepper and Jack, yes that hilarious itself, were great together! Loved this book.

I'll start off by saying this was one of the few books I've recently read that pulled me into its pages almost immediately. I love a book that I don't have to wade thru the first chapter or two before getting drawn in! I will also start by acknowledging that this book would have easily earned 5 stars had the author made Pepper (the main character) a little bit less dense. She created this character to be strong, full of common sense, and fully aware of those around her and all that is going on. Then she literally took the entire book for this character to recognize what was right in front of her very nose. I just find this annoying when a story is drawn out too long with a lot of extra circumstances that just don't seem needed, and are certainly not required.

With that said, this book was very well written with amazing descriptions and details. It included mystery, mystic themes, ghost story (complete with a haunted house), and romance (although this was really more of a background part of the story). The editing was very well done with minimal errors (also a relief, as a lot of typos can negatively impact the whole reading experience). The characters were very well developed, and I felt like I knew each one of them on a personal level. The story line was intriguing, and held my interest throughout the book (even though it did feel a little longer and drawn out than necessary). The climax was captivating, and I found I could not put the book down until the end of that part of the story!

Overall, this was a very good book! I look forward to reading more from this author in the future!

The story of Pepper and Jack, both back in their hometown of Reckless after years away.

Pepper is back to help fix up her town, as her cousins have done for their towns. Jack thinks he is just back for a week to help his uncle out with the ranch, but what he doesn't know is that there are plans for him.

Interesting and entertaining read.

This is Jack and peppers story, Pepper is no soft touch but try telling her towns people that! she’s only been home a week and she’s facing so many problems she’s numbered them just to keep track of them! Her goal is to rejuvenate the economy in her little town but between the towns people unrealistic expectations and the underhanded developers she’s challenged at every way she turns! Then Jack Shephard comes home, Jack is forced to return home to his family‘s ranch when his uncle decides to retire, he has nine days to close down the ranch and pay back a debt to peppers grandmother. A debt that will keep him glued to pepper side! Years ago she broke his heart, I wonder what the chances are of getting away without a broken heart this time? This book was an OK read it was well written it just wasn’t really my genre there was like a little hocus-pocus in there and I mean OK sometimes I’m OK with that but it didn’t work for me in this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

After being disappointed from reading book one of the Calamity Valley series, I thought I would take a chance in reading the continuation in hopes of liking the series the second go-around. That was a big no-no. There was just something about the storyline and the dull characters that was off putting and boring. There just wasn't enough excitement to enchanted me into this read and I was left wanting more (from what little I've read). Sadly enough, another one bites the dust.
