A slightly predictable read but enjoyable nonetheless. It took forever to read though because of the unfriendly pdf format.

Before reading the book, I thought the concept was really interesting, and I wasn't wrong. Although slow-going at times, the plot was intriguing and I couldn't wait to get the answers about the Center and the government (and everything at all) at the end of the book. Except I didn't. The story ends too suddenly to call it an open ending, and it took me some time to believe there's no sequel for it.
As the book is quite short, I think it's worth giving a read despite the downsides.

So despite my copy of this being an annoying PDF that wasn't easy to read at all (I love ARC kindle books, more kindle books please!) I actually quite enjoyed this book. I found the plot enticing and the action entertaining.

The story begins with Matilda, part of a team of scientists looking after future generations of babies grown in artificial wombs. She was one of the first who entered the world this way herself and now takes care of the new generations in the laboratory. Specimen: a human child grown in an artificial womb. Like her, these specimens will have no childhood. Like her, they will be born and programmed for war, conditioned to confront an unseen enemy that terrorizes society.
So, when some specimens start to exhibit signs of a strange and terrible medical condition, Matilda knows she must find a way to save them at all costs.

What she discovers causes her to question everything she has ever known.

But can a single person change the whole world?

Now her choice is simple: shut up or fight.

This was a really great book and I thoroughly recommend it to people who enjoy YA science fiction and light science fiction (I'm not scientist and I found it very easy to follow and understand).

This is good, not great. A decent, but uneven book (and start of a series?). The premise is pretty unique, and has promise. It is not fast paced and it is a bit predictable. As a YA novel, it may appeal more to a younger crowd.
