Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A fantastic read! I loved Mariah's efforts to find out what happened to her mother and the gradual uncovering of the truth. It kept me guessing throughout. This is my first read from the author but I will definitely look out for more from him!

Whilst I did enjoy the book, it hasn’t been one of my favourite books that I’ve read

The storyline was good and I liked the way that the book was narrated

However i did find the book too long in parts

But having said that i did enjoy the book, I just wasn’t as pulled in to the book like I was on his last novel, Blame.

I will still look out for future work by this author though

3 for neutral! I tried many times to read this book, but realized it wasn’t for my mood or me in general. I didn’t enjoy the writing style much. I finally decided that I would review honestly and if I ever am able to get into it and enjoy, I’ll update my review!

First half of this book was boring, and then could not put it down.
Two Beth’s went missing either alive or dead no one knew.
Mariah daughter of Beth was determined to find out what had happened to her mother as her father Craig was being accused of murdering her.
Then Mariah started looking into the reason there was another Beth missing and to see if there was any connection. The book then got really interesting and did nothing.but wanted to finish the book.

I’ve always loved Jeff Abbott’s novels, I’m never quite sure what is going to happen in turn, this one was beautifully twisted in its plotting with some engaging, divisive characters.

Mariah and her Dad live in an uneasy alliance after the disappearance of her Mother Beth – Mariah is determined to discover the truth no matter the cost, Dad may know more than he’s saying and meanwhile it seems being named Beth is somewhat dangerous…

All of these elements combine into a page turner of a psychological thriller, where things pan out in unexpected directions. It is a journey of discovery for Mariah, both personal and beyond, completely addictive and pitched perfectly.

I wasn’t sure what would happen, always a huge plus for me, The Three Beths kept me on my toes with a twisty storyline and an emotionally resonant feel.

Recommended.

"You never knew what small-seeming choice in your life could have a massive ripple effect."

This was a readable thriller with short chapters that helped keep the steady pace and tension. At the start I had so many questions: where is Beth? Who was the woman Mariah saw at the mall? Why does her father seem so reluctant to have her asking questions and trying to find answers? As time went on there were more questions waiting to be answered...

Mariah was a character I found easy to like. I can’t imagine the grief of having your mother vanish and feeling like the police aren’t looking for her because they’ve made up their minds that your father is guilty. Mariah’s desperation to find her mother and ameteur detective work was exactly what I would want to do in her position, especially after being told of a possible link to another missing women that the police instantly dismissed. I liked that her father, Craig, was ambiguous and you were never sure if you could trust him. I had my predictions and I won’t go into them or if they were right to avoid spoilers, but I liked that I would waver in my thoughts about his possible involvement and how honest he was being. His strong desire to protect Mariah was exactly as you’d expect from any father and made some of his more questionable choices understandable. I really liked Sharon’s character although I didn’t really trust her and found her strange. Characters like that can be fun to read though and Sharon certainly added a lot to the story for me, especially the dynamic between her and Mariah.

The decision by the author to not include flashbacks narrated by the women themselves added to the mystery. It meant our knowledge of them was coloured by the lense through which others saw them but I liked how the author showed us that people can be many different things depending on who you talk to. No person is one dimensional.

This twisty thriller didn’t blow me away but it was a fun and enjoyable read. I found that the pace and tension wavered and I wasn’t kept gripped as I had been at the beginning, but I never felt bored or tempted to stop reading. By about half way through I thought I knew how this was going to play out and while it was predictable in some ways, other twists still took me by surprise right until the final pages.

Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK and Jeff Abbott for the chance to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Out today.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Not sure what I can write about this book as although I finished it did not leave me with anything really, sorry

I have heard good things about Jeff Abbott but this book just didn't hit the spot for me.

Firstly, the entire mystery/investigation is based on the daughter of a missing woman somehow believing her disappearance must be linked to another woman called Beth. Thats a tenuous link and reason to be suspicious if ever I've heard one. It verged on absurd so I couldn't really believe in the story.

Secondly, if a book is trying to make me believe it takes place in contemporary culture then why replace Facebook with Faceplace? Either use Facebool or make up a completely different social network.

None of the characters resonated with me either so I just didn't care enough.

The writing is really good so I'll probably give the author another go but this plot (and the ending) lacked credibility for me, even if I do suspend disbelief like you often need to in this genre.

When the author is Jeff Abbott you know you are in for a treat. Ordinary people coping with extraordinary circumstances in a plausible manner, with many unpredictable twists along the way. A good sized cast of characters means you can't be sure who is concealing what, and although not a heroine you fall in love with you are intrigued by her situation and you want her to find answers wherever they lead. Thank you to Netgalley and Little Brown for providing me with an ARC which I raced through and thoroughly enjoyed. This is the perfect summer read.

Oh my gosh, oh my goodness, oh my good heavens!!! This. was. soooooo soooooo so good.

Mariah's mother Beth 1 went missing about a year ago and whilst the cops were fine taking their sweet time to figure out what happened, Mariah was not. Enter a pompous crime blogger who makes a flimsy connection between Beth 1 and another Beth (Beth 2) who disappeared 6 months earlier than Beth 1. You lost let. Hope not, because there's a Beth 3 that comes into play later. Anyhow, Mariah has to figure out if this Beth business is real or just really unfortunate coincidence. She digs way into Beth 2's life to find the connections in the midst of threats to her and her dad coming from all directions. You don't know who's done what because remember, trauma has a natural instinct to protect its host.

I had to put it down last night because I needed some sleep but I finished as soon as I could on train rides today. I couldn't figure it out the whole way through. Maybe I'm just slow. But I genuinely couldn't figure out who did what. As soon as I thought I knew the deal, some other little clue to throw you off course would pop up. This was really great writing and I was completely hooked from chapter one (Mr Jeff Abbott, thank you SO MUCH for starting your book off with a good hook - I hate having to sit through 50% or more of a book before things start getting good).

There is a LOT of characters but it's not hard to follow and it's not hard to remember who's perspective we are seeing things from. I really liked that the 2 people who knew the least about what happened to the Beths (but cared about the Beths the most) bonded. It wasn't easy and it took some character development but it was written well. Seriously, this whole book was written well. I would happily put this on my bookshelf to read again.

I didn't particularly enjoy this.
The age old problem of not really liking the main character,or any of the others.
Sometimes it would be nice not to have a twist or two or three thrown at you.

Mariah's mother Beth went missing without a trace and suspicion falls on Mariah's father. One day while at the mall she thinks that she sees her mother and gives chase. She doesn't catch up with the person but this gives her fresh hope that her mother is alive and in hiding.
After searching online she discovers two more women called Beth have also disappeared in very similar circumstances.
A slow building thriller that kept me guessing.

Wow. This was a really tense and suspenseful read. I really enjoyed this style of writing. A twisty, turny gripping story. Highly recommended

The synopsis intrigued me but unfortunately I just can’t deal with this writing style, I find it unrealistic.
Giving a middle of the road rating since I only got around 20% through.
