Another gripping story from the great KL Slater. There are so many twists which I never saw coming but a brilliant ending to tie up all the loose ends. Highly recommended

Ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for killing an old lady living down their grandparents house. Their parents are in complete denial and the two sisters, Juliet and Chloe's lives are completely blown apart when they defend their accused daughters. To make matters worse the two cousins have taken a vow of silence and refuse to talk to the cops. To save their daughters Juliet and Chloe know they unlock their own secrets even if it means confronting their past , a past they swore never to talk about again.

The Silent Ones by K.L. Slater is a fast paced novel with short chapters and well developed flawed characters.A story of a dysfunctional family, full of lies and secrets and a surprise twist at the end makes for an excellent read and I would highly recommended.

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review

I enjoyed reading this novel. I was so sure I had figured out who killed Bessie. I wasn’t even close. How could a family keep secrets like that? Excellent read. Don’t miss this one.

One of my go to thriller authors. Never disappointed after reading her books. Yet another great one full of suspense and so many unexpected twists and turns. I found the beginning little slow but it definitely got some speed later and just couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read another one.

When ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother Juliet cannot believe it. How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing? As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed? Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again.

What a read and a half this is! I was instantly hooked and desperate to find out the truth. Due to the nature of the plot this is a difficult book to read and at times, very uncomfortable. However, nothing was sensationalised and it is all integral to the plot.

There are many, many threads to this book and I loved reading them all and slowly learning how they all fit together. Slater has done a remarkable job in bringing all the different elements together and this made for incredibly satisfying reading once it all slotted together. Along the way Slater throws in a few red herrings as well which only heightened the thrill and intensity of the book. I simply loved this plot.

The characters are fantastic as well, they are going through a horrendous time but as a reader, I was still able to connect with them. They are not all likeable and some of them are definitely not likeable but they are all central to the plot and bring something, even if it is just secrets.

I cannot emphasise enough how much I loved 'The Silent Ones'. It is very dark, very exhilarating and very worthwhile. Being able to discover so many secrets and lies was incredibly thrilling.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre for an advance copy.

This was a quick read and a great one at that. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves punchy thrillers. The dynamic relationship between the two sisters is one that I really appreciate and felt deep in my heart as Slater excellently laid out the plot.

I have read a few of Slater books and if you asked me before I finished this book I would have said my favorite one so far was The Secret as it was phenomenal but The Silent Ones is just down right brilliant!

The beginning grabs your attention and you carry through until about half way when the first major twist happens, or did it. Then the hits just keep on coming and they don’t stop. Slater layers one brilliant twist after another as you uncover the truth behind the story of The Silent Ones! If this was a live show Slater could easily just end this book with a mic drop!

I am a big fan of K.L. Slater books. The storyline are always gripping and the characters are always amazingly flawed. The Silent Ones followed K.L. ‘S amazing formula for amazing books. The Silent Ones is full with twists and turns and a poo load of OMG moments! I seriously swore I had it figured out a million times before I finally got it right.

I look forward to reading more from K.L. Slater!

I've been interested in reading a book by K.L. Slater for a while. She has come out with several books and they all seem to have good reviews. This story follows 2 young girls who find themselves in a lot of trouble after a tragedy occurs. There is no shortage of twists and turns in this book...some I was able to guess and some were very surprising to me.

The story did get a bit slow towards the middle but the beginning and ending were swiftly paced and hard to put down. The plot was different from anything I'd seen before, which is not an easy feat in this age of thriller books. I would definitely pick up another of K.L. Slater's stories in the future.

I received an arc of this book to read and review from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wow!
Absolutely superb!
I love a psycho thriller that has a storyline that really makes you question everything about being a mother! You put yourself in the position of the parents. How would I feel if it was my daughter? Would I just know? Would you have doubts? This book absolutely grips right from the first chapter and you and reels you into the storyline, while willing everything it’s leading to, to be a lie! Such a fabulously written story that pulls on your heartstrings! A twist that I really didn’t see coming and an ending I was shocked with!

Maddy and Brianna are cousins ... both 10 years old... and both arrested for a terrible crime against an elderly woman who lives down the street. When they were picked up, both sets of clothes had blood splatter .. and neither of them are saying a word. Not to the police...and not to their parents.

Juliet, Maddy's mother, just cannot fathom her daughter doing anything to hurt anyone else. Chloe, Brianna's mother, feels the same about her daughter.

The police bring in Dana, a therapist, to see if she can coax the children to talk .. it's imperative they find some answers soon. The entire small village is up in arms and much damage is being done. Juliet's business is set on fire and everything destroyed. Chloe and Brianna live with their parents and the house is covered with graffiti and windows broken.

And when the girls do begin to talk ... it rips the family apart even further. Juliet and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again …

This is not a new author to me and she never disappoints. It's a well-written story of a dysfunctional family torn even further apart by decades old secrets and lies. I thought I had this one all figured out early ... but I was so far off track. There are twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. The ending was totally unpredictable and surprising.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Psychological Thriller. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I really enjoyed Slater's writing style and the way she seemed to nail what life is like in a tight-knit community. The family ties and domestic part of this thriller were intricate and well thought out. We jumped straight into the plot with little to no introduction, which I actually found myself enjoying. However, the characters were a little two dimensional for me so that made the story drag on for a little longer than I could bear.

Would still pick up future work by this author because although this book wasn't my favourite, the style of writing was a something I could try again.

A seemingly innocent visit to an elderly lady ends in tragedy and shock when she is found brutally beaten, the only suspects are ten year old cousins Brianna and Maddy. But they won't say a word. As the village they live in turns against them old family tensions rise up again, turning mother against daughter and sister against sister.

K.L.Slater is definitely one of my go to writers and she hasn't leg me down on this on. Whilst it isn't my favourite of her novels it's still a great read.

The police have accused two 10yr old cousins of a horrible crime. The cousins will not speak of what happened. Two sisters, the mothers of the 10yr olds, must work together to save their children and figure out who committed the murder. The sisters must look to their own past for clues to help them.

KL Slater has taken a family dynamic that could be found in any community, sisters raising their families in the same neighborhood, holding unto the close connections they enjoyed while growing up, and given it a half twist. There is no warning, the reader is suddenly thrown into the sister's investigation only to find out that maybe, just maybe, we missed a clue or two. A very original story line with enough possible outcomes to keep you changing your mind every other chapter.

This had me hooked from the first page, a fabulous read.
Chloe and Juliette are sisters, they work together and live close to each h other. Their daughters Brianna and Maddie are as close as cousins can be.
One day the two young girls are accused of a brutal attack on an elderly lady. But they both refuse to say a word about what happened. Could they have carried out this hideous crime? Are they covering for each other?
What follows uncovers secrets that the family have been keeping from each other for years and blows them apart.
The way the story ended was great (no spoilers) and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
