My thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of The Silent Ones for an honest review.

I’ve read K L Slater books before so I knew I was in for a good read.
“ The Silent Ones” didn’t disappoint.I couldn’t put this book down! I loved the pace of this book and found the storyline flowed very well. Even though I couldn’t wait to find out why the girls were silent I didn’t want the book to finish.I hadn’t guessed the ending and I enjoyed how all the loose ends were tied up.
Will not hesitate to recommend.

The Silent Ones is an emotional novel focusing on family dynamics, dysfunction and secrets in the aftermath of 10 year old cousins being accused of a serious crime. The novel is multiple point-of-view and dual timeline. I think fans of character-driven fiction will enjoy this book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC! The opinions in this review are honest and my own. #TheSilentOnes #suspense

The Silent Ones is a light, enjoyable thriller in which two young girls, cousins Maddy and Bree, are accused of killing an elderly neighbour. But both girls refuse to speak, and with time running out to determine the truth, their mothers -sisters Chloe and Juliet - must face some family truths of their own.

This book had a very interesting premise, and was well-paced and easy to get into. However, it wasn't as gripping as I expected it to be. What intrigued me about the story most was the girls' apparent crime, and I expected the story to focus more on them. Maddy and Bree were not the main focus of the book - instead, Julia and Chloe were - and this seemed like wasted potential. It felt like the girls were forgotten throughout most of the book, in favour of Chloe and Juliet and their family arguments.

That said, overall The Silent Ones was still a great read.

This book kept me turning the pages and constantly guessing what would happen next! A quick read and not too heavy, but enough to keep me interested throughout! The plot twist was a major shock, but it seemed a bit far-reaching. Read my review on goodreads! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2938570600

I find books by K. L. Slater to be synonymous with a twisty and compelling thriller. The Silent Ones does such kind of thrillers justice and then some. It's a fast-paced and engrossing read with many twists most of them shocking and completely unpredictable. I enjoyed reading this book just like the many books by K. L. Slater books before this one.

When ten-year-old cousins Maddy and Brianna are arrested for a terrible crime, Maddy’s mother Juliet cannot believe it. How could her bright, joyful daughter be capable of such a thing?
As the small village community recoils in horror, the pressure of the tragedy blows Juliet and her sister’s lives apart. And things get even worse when their daughters retreat into a self-imposed silence. Can anyone reach Maddy and discover the truth before her fate is sealed?
Juliet is crushed. Nothing will ever be the same for her darling girl. But she knows that to find out what really happened that day, she and her sister must unlock the secrets of their own terrible past, a past they swore never to speak about again …

I found all the characters in this book to be so relatable. Their responses to most of the situations seemed realistic. I'm saying most but there were a couple of scenes where I think Juliet should have and could have done more. The plot was excellent. The ending of this book too was executed so well, I was left with a warm fuzzy feeling about it. There was a lot of family drama in this one, maybe a little more than the thrill, but I enjoyed this one even then. At the start, I thought I knew where this was headed, but I was proven to be completely wrong. With each chapter, something new is revealed that would throw all my assumptions out of the window. I found reading about Juliet and her family dynamics to be very captivating - they're by all means a poster card for a dysfunctional family.

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture and K. L. Slater for an arc!

Great book that I literally had to keep reading to find out which of the two 10-year-old girls murdered an elderly woman. The twists at the end of the book blew me away. I did not even imagine this ending and I'm usually pretty good at figuring out a psychological mystery before the end. Looking forward to reading more by K.L. Slater.

This book has so many twists. Every time I thought I’d figured it out I was wrong. I never even came close to guessing the end. I had no idea who to trust and just had to keep reading. I struggled with the fact that I wasn’t a massive fan of either of the mums. They were both annoying in their own ways which made them a bit hard to connect to. The massive family issues also took over and overshadowed the fact that their 10 year old daughters had been arrested for a serious crime. The ending was also massively rushed. It was over as soon as it had started. I wished it had been drawn out a bit more after all of the build-up. Apart from that I did really enjoy this book and will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from K.L Slater

The Secret is the first K.L. Slater book I've read and since then I've been a fan. The Silent Ones is only my third book from the author but I knew by just reading the blurb that I won't be disappointed. And I wasn't. The plot is so interesting. It sounds far-fetched, but not impossible to happen. 10-year-old cousins, Maddy and Brianna were arrested for allegedly assaulting an old lady. Their mothers, who are sisters, wanted more than anything to clear their children's names of what is obviously a misunderstanding. Things escalated quickly when the old lady died and the people on their small town are out to get justice. But Maddy and Brianna are not uttering a single word to anyone. Not the police, not even their parents. When the family gathered, sides were taken by which the other is believed to be innocent while the other one is guilty. Clearly, the family got their own issues they need to deal, and quickly, if they want to help Maddy and Brianna.

It surely is an engaging read. The girls' situation and the family's secret pulled me in and kept my attention. The pacing is fast and the surprising twist and secrets got me hooked until the end despite the unrealiable narrators and unlikeable characters. The culprit was also easy to spot and I think the family issues overshadowed the kids' situation but nevertheless, I still enjoyed the book just the same.

The Silent Ones was a difficult read for me. The family dynamics portrayed were so dysfunctional and the characters so complex and unlikable, that I became rather disheartened. The premise was intriguing, the twists and turns plentiful, and the story itself well woven. The pacing was fast, the ending almost too fast, I wasnt ready. It was an entertaining if not enjoyable read. i would read more form KL Slater. 3.5
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation.

A bond between two cousins Maddy and Brianna are one like no other. One is more of a follower than a leader. But, which one is it??
When an elderly woman is found beaten badly, the 10-year-old cousins are brought in for questioning. You ask yourself, how can they do this? They are only 10, how could they do this to a helpless woman? So, was it both of them, or just one of them?
The girl's parents and grandparents are brought to the police station, and of course, they start to take aside. Sending this family over the edge that is already teetering there.

I really enjoyed The Silent Ones. I enjoyed the way there was a story going on it both the past and the present, although I thought the past story was more fleshed out and more interesting than the story going on in the present, which seemed to be where the author really wanted us to place our focus. Honestly, I didn’t care for the young girls. I thought they weren’t developed well enough and felt hollow and awkward to me. The moms’ story flowed much more smoothly and made more sense to me, but still a good read overall.

In a story with two young girls, a dastardly crime, and tons of secrets revealed, what is the truth?

I will admit that this book was a slow start for me, I actually attempted to read it and had to come back later as the writing style isn’t the typical of books I’ve read.

However I will say this book was very intriguing and picked up momentum, once the family lines were crossing and story lines were being revealed for each character!

I recommend without giving to much away, that you dive in for yourself as a reader, and learn who did it, and why.

This book was a ride. I love a good mysterious and suspenseful novel! Thank you Net-galley and Bookouture for allowing me to read a digital arc of “The Silent Ones” by K.A. Slater in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first but definitely not my last book by this author. I was completely hooked after the first chapter and it kept me guessing until the end. So many surprise twists and turns. I literally read it in less than two days. One of my favorite reads of the year.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this absolutely brilliant book. I finished the book in one sitting, and honestly had to sit and just absorb it. The book was so well-written I found myself paging and racing through the book, just having to see what is coming next. And next. And next.
I will admit, I did guess the reason for the girls' silence, and what happened to them. Until.... I paged over, and I was bulldozed over again.... I did not see the ending coming, and that was a thrilling ending already!
Highly highly recommended.
