The jury is still out on this book
It is beautifully written and filled with great characters
However it wasn’t the thriller that I was expecting and the ending was sudden

This book was well written as other reviewers have stated but the plot was missing something and I can't put my finger on it. Sorry just didn't draw me in like I expected it to.

I am really not sure about this book. It is well written and had some great descriptive passages but it just seemed quite meandering and without a real plot. The main characters were just not likeable with Nick a suave controlling husband with a quick temper and Karen the rather flaky wife who over reacts to most things especially anything concerning their son. Some story lines and characters just seemed to just peter out without developing fully and on the whole there are no answers. One wonders if it's just a book about mental illness but it just confused me which is a shame as I enjoyed The People at Number 9.

Not for me I'm afraid despite being well written.

An odd book centred around Karen the potter/ceramicist and husband Nick who left London for a countryside living. Was it ideal or not?

Beautiful descriptions of the new environment, and getting to know the neighbours (the barbecue scene was funny and yet so true to life!). Karen has had some minor mental problems - she sometimes 'zones out' and she doesn't really trust her husband with some of the village ladies. She seeks refuge in her new studio, and enjoys the company of one of the new neighbours, Cath.

When I say 'odd', this really refers to the ending which was slightly unexpected - will the author write "The Move 2"? A little bit more characterisation would have helped e.g Karen and Nick's parents, and did Ethan really settle down in the country?

An enjoyable book, but I still felt as though I wanted more of their country life.

I enjoyed the author's writing in this book and also her characters - I could fully imagine the location and setting and the various neighbours. However, the plot was absent and I kept waiting for something to happen to heighten the suspense. When I finished the book, I was disappointed.

I am so torn on this one! Clearly the author is a talented writer; her characters are well developed and believable but the plot was definitely lacking. I have not read anything else by her but will try some others as this novel definitely had good points.

I really loved the author’s book The People at Number 9 so was looking forward to reading The Move, but it just wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. It was just an OK read for me.

This was a well written book and I wasn’t bored, I wanted to carry on to the end but I expected something more to happen. The characters were not particularly likeable and the main characters growth and ultimate empowerment didn’t feel particularly real. I would read another of Felicity Everett’s books, if she can keep me entertained with a story I didn’t particularly like then I could potentially love a different story.

I loved this one. At first I thought it was the husband that made his wife a bit loopy. Who was watching from the hill? The neighbours come across as friendly, weird or just seem to put on airs and graces. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors at all, which at one point you will discover. I hate to give away too much of a book as the reader must discover these things by reading it. I recommend this book.

This was an interesting read. At times it was hard to pinpoint what was real compared to what was a delusion or after-effect of Karen's presumed mental illness.
It was never really clear to me what had happened to push Karen over the edge, or indeed what exactly the after effects of her breakdown were but that made the book more interesting than having everything spelled out, adding to the real confusion surrounding someone struggling to cope with their new reality.
Nicks motives for moving to the country were also very unclear- on the one hand he seemed to be very solicitous of his wife's emotional well being, providing her with a wonderful studio and a beautiful house but on the other hand there seemed to be a real lack of support for her in interactions with her son and in discouraging some of her tentative friendships.
I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptive writing and the character development but would consider this a slow burning mystery rather than a thriller.
The pace was perfect for the story, perhaps just not as fast moving I would expect from the average thriller genre.

I love this author's writing and her characters are always so well drawn, but there was just not even a hint of a plot.

This was an interesting read that I wasn’t convinced from the start I would enjoy but I persevered and it was worth it.

It’s a slow burn and although not necessarily a thriller, it did grip me and kept me wondering enough to keep going and enjoy.

The characters and built well and the setting makes it stand out given the contrast between what’s expected and what actually happens.

Rather enjoyed this story, it was well written and the characters were very relatable. However, the plot just really didn’t seems to deliver and there were lots of unanswered questions for me by the end (and indeed about the story before the book starts) Couldn’t make out the balance between reality and mental illness - felt a bit like a sequel when I hadn’t read the first in the series.

A strange story, with many questions unanswered.
Nick has been very busy renovating a country cottage for his wife Karen.. What has happened to her in that time? Was it a breakdown? She tell us that for the past four months she had barely been able to choose what clothes to wear, what meal to eat, etc. The cottage is beautiful, but we get the feeling that it isnt quite right for Karen.
Their friends from the city come to visit and rather make fun of the 'country idyll'
Other members of the story are the two sons, one from each parent. There is stress associated with them too. Nick gives Karen no support in issues with her son Ethan. The whole thing just gets messier.
One knew exactly what the ending was going to be.
Thank you NetGalley for a review copy of the book.

Karen and Nick move to an idyllic village from London to start a new life and also for Karen who appears to have had some sort of mental breakdown, to recover and repair their relationship.

After meeting their neighbours, several strange events occur which leave Karen feeling insecure and suspicious. While Nick seems to be embracing the country life and their pretty neighbour a little too much!!

I’m in two minds about this book as it is beautifully written and there are some great characters, but I was expecting it to be more of a thriller and the ending seemed rather rushed.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

This book is supposed to be a thriller but it didn't live up to my expectations. I was expecting someone to have followed Karen from London or something similar but the story didn't develop. Nothing sinister really happens and I didn't warm to the main character Karen either and I couldn't understand why she was still with Nick, who was a complete idiot.
A bit of a disappointment really

An unusual genre for me to read but a pleasant surprise, this family noir gripped me throughout. Well told with vibrant characters who you’ll love and hate.
Karen and Nick have made the radical decision to change city living for country. Their marriage has hit rock bottom following Nicks recent affair. Karen is in a really dark place never believing this would happen to her, she has no self esteem left. Nick is mesmerising and manipulative and still seems to be up to his old tricks, flirting outrageously with the locals. Karen is struggling with her new life and circumstances, continually blaming herself for anything that goes wrong she begins to feel trapped..
My thanks to Netgalley for letting me read an early copy.

This book is ok. It’s well written but perhaps a little long winded in places? Too descriptive? I found myself skipping through bits . A family move to a seemingly idyllic village, a dream home but strange things keep happening. Is the house haunted? Are the neighbours what they seem? Is the village all it appears to be?

This is quiet a good read, I like mystery thrillers. However there’s so many different types. This would not be my normal type of book I read. Although i am starting to think I have been missing out. Purely based on this book. It’s written well excellent storyline. Who’s watching who. Why what’s the motive. Hmmmm exactly what I was wondering myself. As I was reading, keeps you on edge and you just WANT TO KNOW. What’s coming next. I was very very impressed I am going to be on the lookout for more felicity Everett

“The Move” is beautifully written, but I was expecting a domestic thriller novel, and that’s definitely not what I got. While the story is well set up - a couple moving to an idyllic village so that the wife can recover from what we assume to be some kind of mental illness, only to face strange events in their new community - it just never really goes anywhere. Is the husband cheating? Did someone intentionally leave a dead crow in Karen’s workshop? We don’t know; nothing is answered. And while I do enjoy some things being left to the reader’s imagination, it felt like the whole book was left to the reader to finish for themselves, with an ending that came out of nowhere and which was both quick and unsatisfying. The characters were well written, and the writing was great, but this one just left me a bit cold. Nothing of any real interest happened, it went nowhere, and then it ended. I didn’t not enjoy it but I was definitely left wanting by this book, which was carried by the quality of the writing and not at all by the plot.

Thank you to NetGalley who provided me with a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
