I am sorry but I did not like this. The main character was insufferable and her actions completely implausible. The plot had endless holes!. Ethan, Imogen, Luca, Nick - none of these characters made sense or felt real. The novel started out really well. It built intrigue and kept you guessing but all too quickly it unfurled into several threads, none of which led anywhere. Disappointing. I am giving it two stars just because I finished it...

Nick and Karen move to a lovely, idyllic spot in the countryside in the hope that she will recover from a breakdown. All is fine and dandy till some unexplained things happen. Sadly, despite some lovely descriptions, this was ultimately disappointing. Not even a slow burner because for me it never really got going. Spluttered along and fizzled out with a whimper. If I take the time to read a book then I like it to have some resolution at the end, discover the why’s and wherefore’s, but there wasn’t any at all, more of a “what was that all about?”.

I loved this book , the characters the plot and the quick pace.

However I was frustrated when finishing the book as nothing seemed to get answered.

Who was responsible for the things that happened? What had happened between her son and her husband at the end? I felt it needed a couple of chapters to help me clean this up in my mind.
Thank you to net galley, for an honest review

This is the first of Felicity Everett’s work I have read. I was really excited to read this and captivated by the blurb.

I was, I am sad to say, disappointed. I really wanted to love this, but it just didn’t grip me. Hence, it’s taken me a while to get through this, because I just didn’t have the passion to pick it up any chance I got.

I will see say, it is beautifully written. The characters are well developed and relatable. The dialogue doesn’t feel forced and the descriptions paint the perfect picture for every scene.

I feel like this book was more of a study in people and relationships. However, I was constantly waiting for something to happen. It was written like it was building to something. But nothing happened. There was no climax. For me, it just fizzled out.

Sadly, I won’t be rushing to read any more of Everett’s work

Thank you HQ and Netgalley for my ARC of The Move. I was so pleased to get a copy of this as I really liked The People an Number 9 . For me this one didn’t quite live up to the expectation I had however I did enjoy it nonetheless. It wasn’t really the thriller I was hoping for but more of a family drama . I loved the country village setting and there was a good mix of realistic characters in the village which added depth to the story . Very well written and readable . I found the first half of the book much better than the second and was left disappointed with the ending . I do like her style though and it wouldn’t put me off reading more of her books .

Having read and very much enjoyed The People at a Number Nine by the same author, I was expecting a beautifully written drama rather than a suspenseful thriller and that’s what I got. However, this one has a darker feel and a strong psychological element. The characters are very well observed and the setting is ideal for the story. My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.

Easy read, good selection of characters. Didn’t really know where it was heading, but it was quite enjoyable.

This book just dragged for me and I really had to fight to pick it up.

Karen and Nick have moved to the country from London. Karen has mental health issues and Nick works away a lot.

That, in a nutshell is pretty much all that I took from this book. I kept expecting the usual twists and turns but nothing happened.

I’d seen this book around and heard a bit about it and wasn’t sure if it would be for me or not. I’m so happy I gave it a go as it was easily one of the best I’ve read lately. I was hooked instantly, totally invested in the story and would happily recommend.

A very good one with great characterisation. I liked the plot and the pace.
Thanks a lot to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’m sorry but I really wanted to like this book having read the synopsis but although it started well, it diminished by a third of the way in and became a chore to read by the last quarter. I didn’t like or believe in any of the characters and the mystery surrounding why there was this huge life changing move to the countryside when revealed was as exciting as watching paint dry. The middle part of the book was overlong and the introduction of problems that various characters were suffering was irrelevant - particularly the breakup of the good london friends which added nothing to the story.

A great read from start to finish. Very gripping and a great plot.
Read in two sittings, would definitely recommend to other readers

I could really relate to the main character in this well written novel & cared about what happened to her. I was actually disappointed when it finished & would like to hear more about how her life continues. An excellent human drama.

It wasn’t that I didn’t exactly enjoy this book but it didn’t provide much drama or excitement and the ending was very unsatisfactory.

Following a breakdown of her mental health caused by infidelity, Karen and her husband Nick have moved house from London to a quiet hamlet. Or rather, Nick has moved them to an idyllic cottage complete with a pottery studio for Karen's work as a potter.
The villagers are an eclectic mix of locals and incomers and it's more like the village of the damned than a rural idyll. Who can be trusted?
I was expecting this to be the usual psychological thriller "with a twist you won't see coming.' But instead it was a gripping page turner without the usual clichés that can be so predictable.
There were sort of twists but nothing was too far-fetched or grating.
All in all a really well written novel with recognisable characters and a plot that is believable.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advance copy.

The Move by Felicity Everett is very hard book to review. This a slow-moving book about Karen and Nick who move from London to an Idyllic country house. Where Karen has just got over a mental breakdown and is very paranoid. Nick works a lot away and has done up the house in his own tastes. As they carry on in country life, making friends with the neighbour’s things happen and Karen becomes suspicious of Nick.
I thank NetGalley and the publisher but The Move for me personally wasn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong it was well written, good descriptive elements to the story but, I found really slow, so slow in fact and I apologise to the author I know how hard they work. But, for me I found it quite boring. I was reading and waiting for a climax in the story, but nothing came. There were also no likeable characters in this story that I could relate too. 2 stars from me.

If i'm honest - this book didn't do much for me. I was super excited about starting it.

But the characters were unlikeable, the story took a LOT of getting into. It definitely needed more action earlier on because the fact that I struggled so heavily to be interested from page one, made it a constant battle to keep going.

If you like something a little slower - this is for you. But unfortunately it just didn't gel with me!

This was a complete puzzle of a book. It was compelling and gripping and then seemed to finish at a completely random point, utterly unresolved. So i was a bit baffled. So I've given it 3 stars because I liked it until the end.

An ok beginning, a good middle and a disappointing ending. The book starts the same way as many others, where something has happened to the main character and the reader is left trying to guess what that might be, but the story is fast moving and soon begins to unravel thanks to Karen’s flashbacks.
A series of intriguing events then leave the reader wanting for more and make for a very exciting read which unfortunately though culminates into a very anticlimactic and disappointing ending.
