Lone Star Nights is an entertaining Rome book. Good plot, writing and setting. I recommend this to romance readers. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.

Great story! A delightful, quick easy read with some surprising twists. I will definitely be reading more stories by Justine Davis. Don't miss this Texas treat.

I am so enjoying this series by Ms. Davis…beautiful stories with strong characters who are dealing with the loss of the father they loved and the brother who is missing. After college, Slater Highwater returned home to Last Stand, Texas and is running the Last Stand Saloon. Joey Douglas, town librarian, has always been in love with Slater, but knew he desired her sister, Diane, the beautiful one. Even when Diane left town, Joey knew there was no hope for her with Slater, as she would never be willing to come in second in his life. When Joey is attacked, Slater steps in to save her and begins to realize that Joey may have been, all along, the one his heart wanted. Will a clue that Joey remembers help the family search for Kane, the missing brother? Will Slater and Shane settle their long-standing differences? I am really looking forward to what Ms. Davis has planned for Sage and Kane. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Lone Star Nights, the second book in the Texas Justice series by Justine Davis, has taken the warm of the first book and expanded upon it with characters who easily capture your heart and draw you into their story. With continuing, and expanded plot points derived from the first book, the story weaves its way into your heart with aspects of the characters’ overcoming the stumbling blocks that prevented their emotional growth and steering them away from finding their HEA.

I found myself cheering Joey on as she finally found her inner voice that guided her to the fulfillment of her childhood longing and love...she and Slater are so perfect together that you may just find yourself holding your breath until they realize that very thing themselves. All in all, this story is another step towards a decade’s plus long family’s journey towards healing.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Another amazing book by Justine Davis! This is book two in the “Texas Justice” series. Joey has been secretly in love with Slater since she was 14. He was once engaged to her sister, her sister dumped him.
Can a relationship between the two of them work?

3.5☆
I always enjoy revisiting Last Stand and its characters.

What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series: Texas Justice
Standalone
HEA

What I didn't like:
Slater's past with Diandra (I know, I know, it was in the book description)

I look forward to reading the other Highwater siblings stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from NetGalley.

This is a sweet story about finding love. Slater and Joey are endearing characters with great chemistry. Joey has loved Slater since she was a teenager. Slater finally realized that Joey was all grown up and perfect for him. Now he just had to show her that she was who he wanted.

Joey is the highly intelligent assistant librarian in Last Stand, Texas. She has always seen herself as the unattractive counterpart to her beautiful, yet empty headed, older sister. She first noticed Slater when she was fourteen years old, and he was her older sister’s boyfriend.

Slater is the second son of one of the founding families in Last Stand, Texas. Despite holding bachelors and masters degrees from an Ivy League university, he returned to Last Stand to buy and operate the town’s historic saloon. He and Joey have been friends for some time, partially because they are probably the two smartest people in town.

Joey has had a crush on Slater for years but he hadn’t seen her as anything other than a friend until recently. However, neither of them has much self-confidence, believing that they live in the shadows of their older siblings. Can two people who understand each other so well, and have so much in common overcome long ingrained misconceptions to find happiness?

A slow-burn romance of friends turning into lovers, “Lone Star Nights”, by Justine Davis, features a peculiar hero – a literate man with a philosophy degree – and a “quiet, demure” librarian as the long-smitten heroine.
As much as I tend to gravitate to Justine Davis’s stories and the fact I usually like the compelling characters and plots her imagination and talent create, I wasn’t as moved by Slater Highwater as by his older, charismatic brother, Shane, the hero in the first story in this Texas Justice series. Slater’s “agile mind”, depicted mostly through “telling” or by the quotes exchange with Joey, and the fact he’s running a historic saloon, is interesting, but focusing on the difference in Slater’s character doesn’t increase his intensity as a male hero.
The romance between Slater and Joey is sweet, yet a bit bland; Slater’s gradual awakening to the allure of the nerd librarian who’s been pinning for him secretly is well written. The feuds between siblings are interesting to watch, too, and I loved meeting Shane and Lily again.
The Highwater’s siblings quest for the lost brother, Kane, reaches a high tension point and often I was far more interested in finding out about what had happened to him than in keeping up with the romantic couple.

This is a great texas romance. Never believe that another woman -even your sister- is the competition you can’t win with the man who is your soul mate

To start, I really adore Last Stand and the concept of multiple authors under this publisher writing around the same town and same characters. They flow together but each author’s series can be written like a stand alone. This is the second book I’ve read out of Last Stand and I am definitely hooked and will be tracking them all down.

I really enjoyed Joey and Slater’s story. It was a cute, heartwarming story where two people overcame their insecurities and found their way to each other. I read it in one sitting and fell in love with the flawed and relatable characters

She is queit, and works as a librarian in Last Stand. He runs his family bar in town, and used to be engaged to her sister. One night he sees her different;y, but he doesn't know that she has been in love with him for ever and thinks he never got over her sister breaking his heart. IS there a future for them together?

LINE STAR NIGHTS by Justine Davis is the second book in the Texas Justice Series. I just love the Highwater family! This story covers Slater, the owner of the Last Stand Saloon and Joey, Assistant Librarian. We also get a bit closer to solving the mystery of missing brother Kane. Can't wait for the next book!

I recently read an advance copy of Lone Star Nights by Justine Davis. The opinion that follows is my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve read one other book in Tule Publishing’s Last Stand series (also from an advance copy) by another author. That book was very...sweet. Maybe slightly too sweet. But this book...

This book was the perfect mix of innocent and sinful. I loved the build up of Joey and Slater’s relationship. I also loved the entire Highwater Family. They felt extremely real in Justine Davis’s hands. There was drama but there was also a very true to life clashing of personalities. If you have siblings, this should be extremely relatable. You may love your sibling but sometimes you just don’t get them. Both of our leads have that struggle in common and it’s written very capably.

Slater and Joey have chemistry, yes, but they also have true companionship. Establishing that is something so many romance author’s lose sight of while pursuing the “steam” but Ms. Davis never does. I would read so many more books about this family and the town of Last Stand as long as they are written by her.

Definitely give this book a read! You won’t regret it! It’s the perfect well-written escape!

I loved this book...I loved joey...and as a librarian myself I found it easy to relate to her. I loved the relationship between Slater and our heroine, as well as the dynamic between the high water siblings. Can’t wait to read more from this series
