This series gets better and better with each instalment. Brilliant main plot, terrifying in places, sees Ava trying to track down the disappearance of a young man from Edinburgh. Meanwhile Luc is in France back working with Interpol and soon they are again thrown together to solve what goes from a disappearance to a major international case with some cruel and unusual elements. Couple that with excellent developments in the characters and the sub plots and you have hours of fabulous reading

This is my first Helen Fields book and definitely won’t be my last. The main characters were likeable and I was able to follow their story without having read the previous books. Interesting and well written story line & happy with the ending! I prefer going into these types of book with little information about the plot, hence why I’ve not gone into detail here.
Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author for the ARC.

When the body of a young man appears without organs inside, the police is not sure what they are looking for, only that something really bad is happening! This is a story told between different characters and two different countries: UK and France, but don’t worry you’ll be able to follow the story all the time. Is very detailed and interesting, but don’t expect an easy case. There will be rape, abuse, malpractice and difficult situations, but this had been a very interesting and gripping thriller. The main characters, the police detectives in their own countries are fearless and intelligent, fighting for the truth and safe for everyone. I really liked how the author, Helen Fields, has created an extensive background for both characters, connection and feelings; it’s clear that this is not their first case together, but you’ll not feel lost at all during the story. Just to let you know, this is the sixth book in the D.I. Callanach series, but you can start the series it on this one, I can assure you! ‘ll admit that a few situations of the book are difficult to read, they are detailed and the reader could almost feel the pain and fear on their own skin. In the end you’ll feel angry and enraged on society. Is there really people ready to do anything for money? Killing or trying to kill only for power? I am so sad when I read these type of books! Not for the story but because reality as I always says is worst than fiction… But at the same time, the only way to fight the worst type of evil is fighting it, helping the police always. I enjoyed this case, the race agains the clock, the rollercoaster emotions of the characters and the insight of a police case, addictive and non-stop, this is a book you don’t want to miss. Ready for the Perfect Kill?

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the arc, which I have enjoyed reading. This another DI Callanach police thriller in the “Perfect” series by Helen Fields. The usual police team are assembled in Scotland as usual other than Luc, who is back in France and working with Jean- Paul again. They are all working on the same interconnecting case, involving people trafficking and kidnapping and also a medical scam.
Luc and Ava have to eventually work together when their friend Natasha is diagnosed with breast cancer.
It is all happening in France and Scotland with plenty of deaths and destruction along the way.
Highly recommended.

Perfect Kill is perfectly disturbing, gripping, gritty crime thriller.

There are two cases one in Edinburgh that Ava and the MIT team are working on. Luc is working with Interpol on a human trafficking case. These cases are both connected in a really interesting way, it gives the story action on both sides of the channel.

As Ava and Luc are in a different country we don't get the normal banter between them. But lucky DS Lively is around for his nonsense humour. Also in Perfect Kill we get to see a nice gentler side of Lively which was sweet to see.

Something happens in Ava and Luc personal friendship group that will change things. The change I think will have a bigger impact in the next book which I am looking forward to see.

Regarding the two cases, both are gripping in there own rights and could have been told on there own. There is a moment when Luc and Jean-Paul are running in Paris it gave me The Bourne Identity fells.

I love Helen writing style as it's easy to read, fast-paced and engaging. I listened to a couple of the previous books on audible so now I am having a french accent in my head when Luc talking.

Perfect Kill can be read as a stand-alone, you get so much more from Luc and Ava relationship if you read the other books. Below are the order of the books.

Perfect Remains

Perfect Prey

Perfect Death

Perfect Silence

Perfect Crime

Luc Callanach is a swoon-worthy character but he dies one gesture in Perfect Kill that got me swooning hard.

The series just gets better book by book.

My rating for Perfect Kill is 5 out of 5.
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for supplying me an e-book copy of Perfect Kill for a fair and honest review.

Luc is in France working with Interpol once more facing up to some old demons. Ava meanwhile is in Scotland and they soon find their cases are linked. Missing people, bodies losing their organs and a horrific game involving men hunting women. Plus they're both forced to deal with the illness of a friend.

I am really starting to love these books. The dynamic between Luc, Ava and Natasha is amazing. I just love their connection. The story took a little getting into as theres so much going on but I found it really interesting. The ending was so utterly perfect and I need another book now. The relationships are written well but dont detract from the actual case. A brilliant continuation of the series.

Thanks to the publishers Avon and NetGalley for the chance to read a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This, the 6th of Fields' Edinburgh crime thrillers has a different feel to it. These books had started to feel a little formulaic, with one major investigation, one minor one and personal issues lurking in the background. Here the story is for once fully focused on (what turns out to be) one large-scale linked crime.

Luc Callanach, who has taken something of a back seat in the recent books, is back in his native Paris, as Scottish liaison to Interpol. He is working to uncover a suspected organ theft operation with potential Scottish victims. Meanwhile back in Edinburgh, Ava Turner is embroiled in missing persons cases, apparently unconnected murders and a few bone fragments left by pigs, trying to piece it all together.

The underlying story is strong as usual, with clear and believable twists and discoveries. The new characters introduced are all well-formed and distinct, and the dialogue much stronger than in previous books (I have at times had issues with the form of swearing in the books - living in Edinburgh and taking public transport I hear a fair amount of it!).

I absolutely rattled through this book in under 4 days - pretty much unheard of for me - partly due to being away on business and with no English TV channels in my hotel room, but also due to the superb rolling storyline which makes you want to read one more chapter.

A superbly told and imagined crime thriller.

Wow - this book knocked the socks of me. I haven’t read Helen Fields before and I finished it three days ago and it’s still with me. Set across Scotland and France lent it an extra edge as it felt very real, with the characters in your face and full of angst, depth and many, many more stories. The detail of some of the scenes was very graphic and kept me on the edge of my seat, although with tears in my eyes at times.

Cracking read. I’m going to go back and read all of them.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review.

4.5*
Luc is in France working with Interpol when the body of a young Scot is found on a building site. Meanwhile Ava has a murder investigation going on in Edinburgh.

Their relationship has taken a nosedive if, indeed, it ever got off the ground. However, their cases are soon to collide and the race is on to find Bart if he’s still alive and to find a witness to yet another murder that takes place in Edinburgh.

On top of everything that’s happening at work. Natasha, Ava’s closest friend and also friends with Luc, makes a devastating revelation.

Helen Fields will have you gripped from start to finish in this complex, dark and tense tale of murder, kidnapping and trafficking. You will race through this very well written book wanting to know what happens. The build up and conclusion to the two police operations which take place one on each side of the Channel will keep you hooked to their conclusion.

Then, just when you take a breath and think that’s it the end, Natasha makes a proposal to Ava and Luc that’ll make for very interesting reading in what will surely be the next in this really good series.

This is the sixth book in the DI Callanach series which just gets better and better. I would highly recommend it.

Thanks

This book has it all : organ harvesting, sex trafficking and that’s just for starters. If you are a fan of the DI Callanach series, then this is a must read. I enjoyed this book so much, I finished within 24 hours. It was fast paced and the setting is in Edinburgh (my fave city in the world!) I will definitely be reading the next one as I need to know if Ava and Luc finally get together.

Whoop whoop we’re back in Scotland with another instalment of DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach… I absolutely love this series and feel we’re getting a whole lot more than just a detective series, each one leads into the other as regards personal relationships and back stories which I love so I feel like I’m on the journey with Ava & Luc.

This series is going from strength to strength, Luc is on secondment to Interpol in his hometown in France with his old partner Jean-Paul. There are personal issues between them which need sorting out also! There are two investigations going on, one by Ava investigating a murder in Scotland and another by Luc investigating organ harvesting in France… however, a link is found between the two!!

The investigation unfolds people trafficking, sex workers, illegal immigrants being used, organ harvesting… you need a strong stomach for this one!

Another absolute belter of a book, I’m still holding out promise for Luc & Ava, they deserve some good luck and love although I had an argument in work with one of the other girls because we asked which fictional character we would absolute love to go out with…. Without even blinking… LUC… the most dishiest DI in both our opinions. 110% recommend this series

Wow!! The grittiest of Helen Fields "Perfect" series starring DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach, to date.

This one has to be the best so far but you only decide that if you build up the back storyline of Ava, Luc and Natasha during the previous 4 books in this series.

There are 2 storylines here. Follow DCI Ava Turner in Edinburgh and DI Luc Callanach in Paris. Yet both cases come across each other but are not directly linked. Stunning descriptions of the 2 cases coming to their dramatic ends.

I must admit 1 of the storylines (won't say which one) reminds me of a storyline in one of Stuart Macbrides fairly recent novels and the other storyline rings a bell elsewhere too but still brilliant. Still a must.

Can't wait for the next one in the "Perfect" series

This book starts out with a bang and it just keeps getting better and better. It's a roller coaster of a ride so buckle up. Happy reading!

This was one shivery read. The scenes described were so realistic, I felt I was present right there.

This was a police procedural with Luc Callanach and Ava Turner both investigating different crimes yet they found it to be linked. The book had human trafficking, organ harvesting, abuse and debasement of women along with hard work and determination of the cops.

My first book by author Helen Fields, I was blown away by the subplots. There were many and varied, and the author brought them all together as the pages turned. Human abuse and trafficking are difficult topics for me to read, they fired my blood right up. Kindle screen was tapped as I wanted to get to the end. I wanted the abusers found and hung dry.

The author's writing was fabulous, even with a topic I usually skim read, I was pulled to read this. I have to be honest, some things made me cringe, and I couldn't bring myself to read the acts done on men and women. For me, it was pretty graphic.

The dark psyche of the real world was shown in the subplots, but there was light at the end of the tunnel when the cops tighten the noose on the gang. Both the main characters were well etched, this was a new series for me, yet I didn't have much catching up to do.

A gritty hard-hitting thriller with graphic scenes showing the underbelly of the society well weaved in a police procedural with superfluous writing where suspense is raised with each chapter.

Sometimes it’s very hard to read books about stories that you heard all your early school years because I was born and raised in an Eastern European country and the main plot of this book is about human trafficking and organ sellers on the black market.
It’s a very well written story with great characters and a gripping read that unfortunately, comes from real-life stories that are still happening.
It’s my first book by the author but I’m going to read more because there’s a back story between the characters that I’m really curious about and want to know more. They are challenging and compelling and I loved how their characters developed.

DI Callanach #6

The story is set between Edinburgh and Paris and covers two cases that are somehow linked. A young man is kidnapped in Edinburgh but he is reported as a missing person. DCI Ava Turner is working on the case. DI Luc Callanach now works in France helping Interpol. The investigation in France is around illegal organ transplants. Ava is also investigating a murder.

Once again I did ot k ow that this book was part of a series when I requested it. It's dark and gruesome in places. The characters were believable. There are some funny but also some upsetting scenes. I do feel I have missed out on a lot of the background story y it having read the rest of the books in this series. I did enjoy this story.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author Helen Fields for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book in the DI Luc Callanach series and it’s a series that gets better and better.
The book starts off with Ava in Scotland and Luc in France, helping Interpol out.
They’re just about talking after what happened in the previous book but soon the disappearance of a young man brings their investigations together.
Natasha gets some bad news and both Luc and Ava are there to help her through it.
The investigation in France is centred around illegal organ transplants but they seem to be kidnapping the ‘donors’ from Scotland.
As well as this Ava has another murder to solve which leads to a particularly nasty group running brothels and killing women for fun.
This book has a great pace but the final few chapters are non-stop action and had me well and truly hooked.
The ending, as always left me wanting more from this great series.
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I like a book that can actually hold my attention from the first few pages.

This is the first book I'm reading in this series and it really did well as a stand alone.

A riveting read for me!

This is the sixth book by Helen Fields in the DI Luc Callanach series featuring DCI Ava Turner called Perfect Kill. It’s set in Edinburgh and abroad in Paris.

Bart lived at home with his mum and had a part-time job at a restaurant which he enjoyed as he could pick up extra shifts. His mum didn’t mind as he always woke her as he left the house with a cup of tea in the mornings and they helped look after each other. Only something must have gone wrong, Bart hadn’t woken her, she didn’t have her cup of tea and his bed hadn’t been slept in, where was he?

Bart didn’t remember leaving the restaurant when he woke up but now he was alone, in the dark and he was shut in somewhere and he was moving. He soon finds out that he’s tethered by his ankle to a pole in the middle of a room that has no door but there are bottles of water, a big bag of food and a bucket in a corner. He is a prisoner.

Bart’s mum is reporting him missing just as a body is found over in Paris with all it’s internal organs missing plus the eyes. DI Luc Callanach is liaising over there with Interpol with another case. He let’s DCI Turner know. They become involved as it turns out to be a missing person from Edinburgh. How did a missing person from Edinburgh turn up in Paris when he didn’t leave the country? His passport is still at home. Why would all his organs be missing?

There are other strange happenings around Edinburgh as well with other killings happening. One is where at least three remains are found, by a farmer, in with his pigs that need investigating. Where have the bodies come from? How long have they been there? If the farmer had been behind it, he wouldn’t be likely to report it, would he?

Wow, this was a brilliant read from start to finish and was a roller coaster of a ride! It was unputdownable and I loved every minute of it. I have some catching up to do on this series but this made me realise how much I love it.
5 out 5 stars

So unfortunately I hadn’t read the other books in this series about DI Callanach, however that didn’t matter as this works well as a stand alone book also. This book centres on the abduction, trafficking and slavery of women and how brutally they are treated. As the team investigates we get to know the characters better- some nice, some not so nice. A pacy read, not for the faint hearted.
