I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

I usually enjoy thrillers and murder mysteries but I couldn't engage with this one. I felt it was far too heavy on unnecessary detail and not gripping enough to hold my attention. I don't usually manage to guess the outcome but felt this one gave the plot away very early on. There were way too many characters and side plots that distracted from the main story. Definitely not one of my favourite reads. A pity, as the story line was original and it could have been excellent.

Read this ages ago and forgot to review. I was really intrigued to read a story about a murder that takes place in a widow support group. April is grieving after the death of her husband and is really struggling so decides to join a support group. Between each chapter are a series of tweets that show that the group is not what it seems. I personally wasn't a fan of the use of tweets and would have preferred a more traditional type of story telling. I didn't find myself as gripped and wanting to keep reading as I usually do with stories of this style.

Thank you NetGalley.

The Widows’ Club by Amanda Brooke was a great read, I struggled to put it down and devoured it in a day. With twists and turns throughout it did not disappoint and kept me hooked until the end. Another great book by Amanda.

A very enjoyable read, can't wait to pick it up again. So easy to get involved with the characters and all is not as it seems.
Highly recommended.

The Widows Club

This was a very intriguing premise & I enjoyed the introduction to the characters.
The author definitely has a unique & empathetic understanding when it comes to grief & that came across clearly & all dealings with grief were handled very carefully which was appreciated.

The subject of grief could easily have overwhelmed the story as a whole but it was handled very well & Amanda Brooke deserves huge credit for that.

The story I was most interested in was April's & I never felt that her story was dealt with fully. She seemed to put the pieces together too easily & the resolution to that particular story was just too neat for my liking. I would have liked to have seen some real soul searching but it didn't seem to really scratch the surface & just when the revelations were getting interesting
...it was just resolved.

I also wish we had known more about April...as a person...as she developed after everything that happened....to truly root for her I needed to know more about her.

Tara was quite a bland character. I really didn't like her. Which was a detriment to my enjoyment of the story as she was really supposed to be the heart of the story & I found her fake & unsympathetic. I also hated what they did to Lily...maybe right to move on after a death but I would struggle to say goodbye to my Mums home now & I am in my 30s...let alone as a child & moving schools as well....seems so traumatic & unnecessary. It seemed it was what Tara & Iain wanted rather than what was best for their children & I could never get over that dislike of them for that.

I spotted where the story was going early on & was hoping that there would be a twist or something but unfortunately there was none. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book....it was just underwhelming.

Also...am I the only person who didn't understand why that group had so much hold over them all? Isn't it a normal support group? I really didn't understand the power struggles & the hold over everyone it had...felt more cult like...I was expecting more supportive book group!

Thanks to the author, publisher & Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A group for young widows is the very place you’d expect to find comfort, solace and support. What April finds is a collection of people not coping well (which can be expected) and constantly on edge. Of course, not everything is as clear cut as what it’s supposed to be which leaves April worried about what secrets everyone is keeping to themselves. It won’t take long for them to emerge… I read it in one sitting and could feel the hairs on my arms stand up as it rattled towards the ending.

Thanks to Amanda Brooke and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction, for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There’s a murderer in their midst…

@thewidowsclub
In response to unprecedented media interest, we confirm that the murder victim was a member of our group. We will not be commenting further.

When April joins a support group for young widows, she’s looking for answers after her husband’s sudden death. What she finds instead is a group in turmoil.

Set up by well-meaning amateurs, the founders are tussling for control of the group, and everyone’s on edge. Added to that, secret relationships springing up between members and another new member, Nick, seems more than a little bit shady…

But the most dangerous secret of all? Not all members are who they seem to be. And they’ll go to any lengths to hide the truth…

This one built the tension slowly but surely, and once it started - it kept going. Twists and turns, this one was unputdownable!

I've never read a book by Amanda Brooke before, and my first dive into her fiction as not a disappointment. This book was chilling and thrilling at the same time.

April has just lost her husband to a sudden brain aneurysm. As a new widow, she is struggling to cope and goes to a help group designed for widows like herself. But it is not as it seems and these people may not be who they say they are....

I find it difficult to read stories about losing loved ones and to say that this had an impact on me shows the richness and believably of the writing. While the first bit of the book might have been tough to get through, it was worth it in the end.

Deliciously dark and addictive. Highly recommended.
April, a widow who has recently lost her husband is struggling to cope with her living style. She's broken and sad. A girl who delivering happiness named Tara invites her to join a club in which there are all widows, Tara, Faith. They have two things in common, one, they all lost their husbands and two, they're are not what they seem.
Another member, Nick joins the group, this character is like a coin, he has two sides. He's hiding something but what?
Apart from this, the author used a brilliant idea of putting social media tweets to grip the reader till the end.
This book tells you that everyone is not what you think they are.
At first the pace of the story is slow but then suddenly it became pacey and the ending gave me a shock of 1000 volts.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK Harper Fiction for giving an advance digital proof.

April has just lost her husband to a sudden brain aneurysm. April is now a widow. She is struggling to cope and when one of friends announces a happy event, she falls to pieces near the girl delivering the cupcakes.

Tara, is also a widow and invites April to the widows club that week.

April goes and she meets people their. But something is not quite right. Things are more sinister than seem at first with the group

At first, I found this book quite hard to read. I struggled with the thought of losing your partner. Or anyone for that matter.

It quickly turned into a thriller book and I was gripped. I read the book in one sitting and was totally engrossed

The book kept me guessing

I have never read an Amanda Brooke book before, but after reading such good reviews, I was very excited to start this.

April is struggling to cope after the death of her husband Jason. She joins the Widows Club where she befriends other widows, coming together to support one another. The group is not perfect, we have a new member Nick who may not be who he says he is and a battle of control between 2 women.

April soon befriends Tara and Faith who listens to her when she tells them she thinks Jason was having an affair before his death. April goes searching for the truth.

In between chapters we see tweets from social media talking about a death in the club. I thought this was a clever way of keeping you gripped as you don’t know who the murderer is or the victim!!!

I did find it slow to begin with but the tension soon starts to build until the explosive ending. Just when I thought I had it all worked out there was another twist, reeling me in leaving me unable to put this book down.

I will definitely be looking out for Amanda Brooke’s other books.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

I thought this was a very well written, fast paced, original thriller, which gave me plenty of twists and turns! Kept my mind hooked from page one, finally let go when I read the last word! Highly recommend to those who like some thrills and chills that are truly possible and not completely out of the realm of happening!
Will make sure I buzz it up!
