Ooh I really enjoyed this creepy, dark and atmospheric read which is perfect for curling up with on a cold night.

The setting in this book of an isolated guest house is brilliant and helped make the book deliciously creepy. There are definitely some strange things going on there which made me very intrigued. The isolation helps add to the atmosphere and tension in the book, especially when the reader realises that the characters are trapped together so the murderer must be one of them.

The story is told from the point of view of Hannah who we are first introduced to in the prologue when she is running away from a burning building which immediately piqued my interest. The story then goes back six days to Hannah’s arrival at the guest house. The reader learns about Hannah’s first impressions of the guest house and her fellow guest which prove to be very interesting.

This story gripped me from the first page, with all the twists and surprises ensuring the book was hard to put down. I was kept guessing about who the murderer was and think I suspected everyone at one point. I thought the ending and final reveal was brilliantly done- a great ending for a fabulous book.

Huge thanks to Rebecca from Harper Collins for inviting me onto the blog tour and for my copy of this book. If you like creepy, atmospheric thrillers then you’ll love this book.

A brilliant debut.
The Guest house is Abbie's debut novel and is so well executed.
You use an app by the name of Cloud BNB to book a room online. On a windy afternoon you arrive at the guest house and then you come to know that there are six more people. A single person lured them all at the same place. Not all of them will come back from the guest house.
Narration of the story is brilliant and so are the characters. I personally like the character of Lucy while others are awesome too.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for giving me an advanced copy of this awesome psychological thriller.

Loved this. Started it at bedtime & just couldn't put it down, it's been a little while since I read a book in one sitting. It was a dark & twisty read that kept me guessing right up until the very end. Highly recommend

This was a tense and exciting read with a very clever twist in the tale. Great premise - really well executed - I couldn’t put it down! Thank you.

The story starts rather slowly with much scene setting and introductions to various guests almost to the point of confusion and tedium. I thought the story line was going to be a bit of a cliche but it pans out well and is gripping and well written. I sometimes wondered if the relentless storm and endless corridors and tunnels of the old house would ever end but although slightly unrealistic it is a dramatic story which makes you want to read to the end to untangle all the mysteries. The character development is good with the guests being far from perfect with messy lives and as the story continues their connections are unfurled. The descriptions bring easy visualisation and it would make a great film.

Read this book in two evenings. Not what I expected, it's a ghost story, crime and psychological thriller and I couldn't put it down. It's fast paced and well written. Though the house I imagined at the beginning (small cottage in the Irish hills) is not the description given at the end of the book - which is much ore of a large manor house. With a little more thought to the descriptions it could have been brilliant, a great idea for the plot and unexpected but plausible twist. Hence 5 stars.

Whilst I wasn't into the story at the beginning as Hannah was not a likeable character at all, I got into it as soon as we got to the Guesthouse. The characters were odd and the story had me questioning whether this belonged to the supernatural category instead. Overall the creepiness factor was very well written and I could do without so much description. The house itself was difficult to imagine because of all the unnecessary details. The conclusion was very satisfactory to me however the 'a few months later' scenario was too predictable and nice for my liking. It felt as if the author was trying to give a nice little bow of happily ever after to these characters when it wasn't necessary to do so. The characters survived a massive trauma and it would have been fine to end it on that.

This tale could have presented as a ghost story to start off with if it were not for the blurb at the beginning making it quite clear that there was a murderer and there would be dead bodies! Although this was very readable and had its creepy moments, it fell short for me. The house seemed to get bigger with more unexplored areas that they were able to access as the story progressed. The guests all managed to make it to the house but then couldn't retrace their steps and escape. Of course the weather - first fog and then dreadful storms - added to the pathetic fallacy - but was not explored as well as it might be. The twists where characters suspected each other was interesting but most of them had too many sides to be realistic. Nevertheless an interesting debut.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Abbie Frost/Harper Collins UK for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

The book opens with an impressive scene of Hannah running for her life from a burning building and a mysterious figure emerging to chase her. We are then taken to the story that leads up to this moment.

The Guest House is a partly renovated remote mansion house and from the moment Hannah first arrives to find she has to take a long walk from the nearest road due to the lack of an accessible driveway, there is a sense of something very off.

Mysterious noises and figures in the dark abound as Hannah unravels the mystery of the house and why she, and all the other guests, are present.

An enjoyable read, but some unbelievable plot threads in places lose a little on the rating.

What a book! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole way through, loads of twists and turns throughout & very well written! Will definitely be looking out for more books written by Abbie Frost in the future!

This book is part ghost story, part psychological thriller and part who done it. I enjoyed the first half of the book but towards the end there were so many unexpected rooms, cellars and corridors I lost count. It kept me entertained for a day but I wouldn't really recommend it to a friend.

Hannah is off to stay at The Guesthouse, a trip planned before her boyfriend died. She decides to still go and hopefully get her life back on track. Soon she learns that this wont be a relaxing holiday at all. Theres some dark secrets there that are about to come out and Hannah is more connected than she realizes. Can she figure it all out in time.

This was an interesting story. It's very atmospheric and creepy at times. The setting is just perfect for the story. The plot builds steadily to a very dramatic ending. Theres some really good twists some of which I picked up on but others took me by surprise. The ending was well done. I really enjoyed the story and Hannah was flaky but her character developed as the story went on. Mo will always be my favourite though. A great thriller.

I was drawn to this by the description - it sounded like one of those mysteries set in a remote house where you know the killer is one of the limited guest list. I love those - creepy, claustrophobic and unnerving as you don't know who to trust. The opening chapter seemed to confirm this as Hannah runs for her life from the burning house, chased by a mysterious figure...

Hannah ends up at the remote guest house in Ireland because she is mourning the loss of her boyfriend, Ben, and goes solo on the holiday they were due to share. The other visitors arrive just as the fog closes in and they become effectively stranded in the house. Creepy noises and events plague the residents and rumours about a ghost in the house surface before the number of guests starts to diminish.

So far, so sinister. However, it's not quite what I expected. It is very eerie and scary in places and kept me reading because I was desperate to know what happened. It's a page-turner, but the story isn't quite believable in places and this undermines it for me. I just didn't really engage with any of the characters which was a shame and found the layout of the house over-complicated to follow.

This is recommended if you like chilling and thrilling books but are willing to suspend disbelief. It's clever and exciting, which I've recognised in my 4 star rating, but just wasn't quite for me.

Hannah is mourning for her boyfriend Ben. Everyone around her blames her for his death and she isn't coping. They were due to go a break to a guest house in Ireland so to get away from everyone Hannah decides to go alone. When she gets there she finds a strange mixture of people but no host. Before long there are bumps in the night to terrify them and then the worst happens.

I thought this sounded like it would be a good read. Unfortunately I found it very repetitive and not at all terrifying. There is a lot of description of the noises etc in the night but too little is done to build character. None of the characters were particularly well developed and the whole premise was completely unbelievable. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this book at all. The characters were unlikeable and the plot was implausible. The only saving grace was that I had to finish the book to try to unravel the plot! Not my cup of tea but perhaps it will appeal to those who like a different, and at times gory, mystery story.

Things are not going well with Hannah. Since the death of Ben, her fiance she has been spiralling into alcoholism, alienating friends & family. When she receives an email reminding her of a trip she had planned with Ben she decides to go & stay at The Guesthouse in Ireland in an attempt to sort herself out. The guesthouse is not on a proper road. After struggling across fields she arrives. The house is fully automated, the host only contactable by text. Before long the other guests arrive & from the beginning things are odd. It transpires that everyone has some connection with the house & the reasons for bringing them here does not have their welfare at heart!

Although at times I found this book stretched believe-ability a bit too much at times it was a fast paced read that I enjoyed overall. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

So I enjoyed The Guest House. It wasn’t the most exciting read but it DID keep you wanting to know more. At times it stumbled over its own plot and forgot where it was going but it’s actually a good read. Problem is, I’m not sure you realise that until you’ve finished it. When I got to the end I realised it’s a clever book, tad convoluted but actually good! I’m not sold on liking our main character as she seems to have too many flaws but that’s kind of the point once you get to why!
Give it a go, stick with it- it’s a good one!

Oh wow this was a terrific book to read. From the first page right until the last it kept you wanting to keep reading. It starts immediately and draws you in and it won’t let go until you have finished it.
At times it was creepy and I could picture the house and the weather in my head. This book would make a really good film with all the twists and turns in it. It kept you guessing right until the end and I wondered if it was going to give you a shock at the end.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers Harper Collins for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
