The Guesthouse is the perfect winter read! Dark, creepy and full of thrills and chills. You honestly can’t ask for much more!

Believable varied characters, great writing style and a beautiful dark setting. I really enjoyed this! The twist wasn’t great but I loved reading this!

Seven guests.
.
One killer.
.
A holiday you'll never forget…
.
You use an app, called Cloud BNB, to book a room online. And on a cold and windy afternoon you arrive at The Guesthouse, a dramatic old building on a remote stretch of hillside in Ireland.
.
You are expecting a relaxing break, but you find something very different. Something unimaginable. Because a killer has lured you and six other guests here and now you can’t escape.
.
One thing’s for certain: not all of you will come back from this holiday alive…

I really enjoyed this book! It's was atmospheric, tension building, fast-paced and the characters were brilliantly formed.
.
All the guests staying at the Guesthouse are connected somehow and slowly but surely all the threads become interwoven with each others. Although, I managed to guess who Lucy was, it didn't stop me enjoying the reveal and the narrative.
.
The concept for this story is certainly not a unique one, both in the past I.e. Agatha Christie and more recently Lucy Foley, but it is definitely a great example of how it can be done right!

I always enjoy these types of books - where all the suspects are in the same place and unable to leave, feels very Agatha Christie. This book was well written, had lots of secrets that emerged carefully as the reader goes on, and an interesting killer reveal. I think I was hoping for a bit more of a twist, but none the less a good read, particularly on a rainy or stormy day!

Hannah needs an escape from a tough time, and searching her emails notices a trip she had booked that she has forgotten about. Making her way to the remote guesthouse in Ireland along with six other people. This will be one holiday she will not forget as someone wants to make sure that not every one will survive.
This was a twisty book and I really enjoyed the characters and the story. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Loved the premise for this novel and it is well executed.
An easy read and not too challenging, I found myself consuming this in a couple of days and the ending has a very satisfying conclusion.
Not a lot of surprises though enough suspense to make you think twice about booking a getaway in a remote location (and staying off the vodka!)
Enjoyed this, many thanks.

Hannah is not coping with the death of Ben everyone believes it’s her fault. Trying to get away she goes to a remote location in Ireland where they were going to take a holiday.
The Guesthouse is a bleak building with a dark atmosphere. She soon regrets coming here to escape. More guests arrive who will have a personal link to the house. Some will never leave. Hannah will have to confront her past to clear the darkness that is ever present. A mystery that has many twists to keep you satisfied.
I was given an ARC of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Who is behind the disappearances and murders? Will they get out alive?
The book is quite fast paced with a lot going on. I think I found it a little difficult to keep up with at times, but I enjoyed the ending and the twist that pulled everything together.

Claustrophobic Suspense....
A relaxing break at a guesthouse becomes a nightmare in this claustrophobic suspense. Six guests and a killer. Atmospheric and tense, a swiftly moving page turner.

Creepy, dark and atmospheric this book is best read curled up in front of a roaring fire while the wind howls outside. However, don't worry if you happen to be on a sunny beach it is still a seriously good read. All through the book I changed my mind as to who the killer was and why they had chosen to pick off a seemingly unconnected group of people. I think I suspected everyone at some point but in my wildest imaginings I couldn't have come up with the truth. A truly great read.

The Guesthouse is Abbie Frost's debut crime thriller and although it starts a little slowly the story soon picks up the pace. The premise isn't exactly the most original in the world but I appreciate that the various elements are woven together adeptly and was pleased I decided to read it. It follows Hannah, whose alcoholism is beginning to seep into every avenue of her life; she didn't intend on it but it happened as she was attempting to come to terms with the devastating death of her boyfriend. She decides to use a pre-booked holiday to take a break from the mundane and travelled to stay in the remote wilderness of Ireland - known as The Emerald Isle for its lush greenery and scenery. On arrival, she very quickly realises that the house she has rented is miles away from civilisation and even gaining a signal to use a mobile device is problematic. I mean what could go wrong? - stuck in the wilds of waney with no way to communicate and a weather system as changeable as the wind. Then the other guests arrive and the whole tale takes a dark turn. Who will survive to tell their story?

This is a well-crafted story of vacation turning to nightmare before our very eyes and the fact that people are dying one by one, as their past connections to the house are revealed, is a terrifying state of affairs made all the worse by the poor weather conditions, difficulty getting signal to call or communicate and the deeply claustrophobic and unforgiving setting of an isolated part of Ireland. There are ample twists and turns, reveals and surprises and as it unfolds the pages simply fly by. It's well written in a style that grabs you and makes you want to read more and more and the atmosphere is a character in itself as it impacts the whole book and you get the feeling escaping is not going to be a possibility. It has plenty of excitement packed between its pages and the story certainly becomes chilling as time goes on and the incidents progress with everyone terrified for their lives. As you near the conclusion the tension builds into a satisfying climax which is action-packed and dramatic. Many thanks to HarperCollins for an ARC.

This was a fast paced and thrilling read that had lots of twists and turns. I liked how we followed Hannah's perspective and the book was set up in a way that the reader knew she wasn't an unreliable narrator. I think the middle portion and the end were the strongest sections of the book as the drama and action were non-stop and it was unclear where the story was going to turn.

There will come a time in the hopefully not too distant future when reliable mobile phone and WI-FI coverage will be available even in the most remote of areas. Until that illusive time then the setting of a remote and difficult to access house in the depths of rural Ireland without such communication reliance coupled with the likelihood of bad stormy weather makes this an ideal choice for a story of entrapment and terror.

The story centres around Hannah who's life is disintegrating following the tragic death of her boyfriend and her descent into alcoholism. Taking advantage of an already booked holiday and hoping to find a connection to her dead and largely unknown father, Hannah travels to a newly rented house in the literally middle of nowhere. On arriving she discovers that there is not even road access to it. She is later joined in the house by more unknown to her guests. As the story progresses it emerges that many of those present have a previous connection to the house. When strange and disturbing things happen and the weather deteriorates the scene is set for terror and an ever increasing body count. But who is responsible and why?.

A nicely plotted tale that I was easily able to finish over the course of a day and which increasing became quite a page turner. Recommended for those who like a well paced thriller.

I was gripped with this book from the very first page. It’s chillingly dark with many twists. Not for the faint hearted but a cracking read.

This is a really interesting premise with an atmosphere that grips me and kept me reading. I wasnt sure how well written the parts about Hannahs father from her childhood was. Perhaps could have done with some confirming with people who have experienced that - just for validity and a lack of triggering those memories for certain readers? The ending was very enjoyable however.

Think I may cancel my next holiday, too scared to go. Keeps you riveted from page one. An amazing book from a brilliant author. Can’t wait for the next one.

Hi enjoyed the first half of the story. Thought it was very well written and exciting. Unfortunately the book started to become a bit repetitious and I found my self drifting away.
