This was a compelling story with the threat of something bad hanging over it all. Some well described characters that were entertaining and relevant. I loved the twist in the tail.

Finished this book within 24hrs literally could not put it down. Couldn’t wait to get to the end but at same time didn’t want it to end. I really liked both Poppy and Drew and would love a sequel! Such a gripping story and the twist was brilliant.

Although this book started well it lost me when the characters became unbelievable. I couldn’t really go along with anyone agreeing to never talk about their past but yet invite their oldest friends and ex girlfriend for a weekend! The ending was rushed and even more unconnected and incredulous. I’ve given this three stars because I think with a bit of judicious editing it could have legs.

I really enjoyed this book, couldn’t wait to read more! Although I enjoyed the ending, I did feel it felt a little rushed and think it could have been a bit more detailed.
Overall a great read and look forward to reading more from this author

When Poppy is unceremoniously sacked from her job as a nanny in the middle of the night, she is rescued by Drew, who also happens to be rich, successful and handsome. Loved this from the very first page even though I’m wondering why Poppy didn’t look for Drew on social media as most people would do. Even the overuse of the word “sorry” didn’t spoil it! I was gripped by the antics of this pair and didn’t want it to end. It would be a great stocking filler, something to read when you’ve had more than enough to eat and/or bored with the television. Such a pity there’s not a Drew in everyone’s life!

This was not an action packed story but an easy to read novel with lots of psychological twists and turns.. poppy is a nanny for a rich couple and when on vacation in Ibiza they suddenly let her go. She meets and teams up with Drew who very quickly becomes her husband and that is where the real story begins in earnest. They make a pact, at Drew’s suggestion, to never talk about their past which pleases Poppy butleads to unexpected complications. The unravelling begins in earnest when they move back to the U.K. into a house that Drew chose and purchased without Poppy knowing. Could have been a lovely sentimental thought but was it?
Loved the totally unexpected ending.. certainly an author to watch out for.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I did find it an easy read but rather slow to get going. The idea of not talking about anything that happened before you met your partner seems really strange to me. I realise that both Poppy and Drew had secrets they'd rather not reveal but even so it is rather an odd thing to agree to and I doubt I'd be able to manage it. The story is told from Poppy's point of view and also flashes back to Caroline who used to employ her as a nanny years before. I thought the last part of the book was rather rushed as we discovered the secrets Poppy and Drew had been hiding. The ending was both unexpected and horrifying!

I was not sure I would get into this book but probably started it feeling tired but wow I really enjoyed it. Gina was very protective of Poppy even though she seemed quite self centred originally and Poppy relied on her for friendship and guidance. Being a nanny to other peoples children cannot be easy and Poppy found a family which she loved and fitted into until a holiday and then the story really gets going. I liked Drew and they seemed the perfect couple – full of secrets which come out but they had a pact not to talk about their past as Poppy had skeletons in her cupboard as well as Drew which come out through the story. They moved into a home which Poppy made beautiful and then things happened to make their lives uncomfortable. I read this book very quickly and wow the ending was not what I expected at all = well done you for writing such a great book. I have not read Rebecca Reid’s first book but I intend to remedy that

Truth Hurts is a psychological thriller that grips from the start. A couple marry after a whirlwind romance and vow not to disclose their past history to each other. However, secrets uncovered are often dangerous and can destroy a relationship. A fast paced, enjoyable read.

Enthralling read, so many twists and turns for Poppy & Drew, will they, won't they. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Poppy is a nanny to a rich family. She's abroad with them, and one night her employee is late home (which is an all too familiar pattern). When challenged, her employer sacks her and throws her out of the house. With no money, no clothes and nowhere to go, Poppy ends up in a bar and meets Drew. He's enigmatic, rich and Poppy quickly likes him. Their relationship in an incredible whirlwind, and they marry and move home.
Is everything as perfect as it seems? Is Drew really so perfect or is there a secret there that Poppy needs to know?
This sucked me in and I needed to read this quickly - it was one of those where I needed to get to the end quickly. 4 stars for me.

Truth Hurts is a simple idea turned into a crafty and compelling plot. Reid set the bar high with her debut novel, Perfect Liars, but she manages to pull it off again with this new stand-alone novel. This talented author seems to have carved out a niche with both novels covering similar themes of truth, deception, and the lies that family and friends will tell.

Although not action-packed, the unyielding feeling of something being just not quite right drew me through this read in only two sittings. Reid's writing permeates the novel with a sense of unease, pulling you through the pages and not letting up until the jaw-dropping finale.

For the reader who likes characters (and mysteries) that are not quite so black-and-white, this is the author to watch. From her twisted first novel to this secretive thriller, Reid's novels are great fun (and a little scary) to experience.

Poppy is a nanny with the Henderson family on holiday in Ibiza when she is sacked in the middle of the night. Whilst drowning her sorrows, she meets Drew and ends up going back to his as she has no where to stay. However she doesn’t actually ever leave. A whirlwind romance leads to a proposal whilst still in Ibiza, days later they marry. On the day of the wedding Drew suggests a pact where they will not talk of each others past, just concentrate on the now and future. Poppy sees this as the opportunity to keep her past buried, which suits her.

Weeks later they return to Thursday House, the house Drew has bought for them to live in. It all seems to good to be true? Drew is very well off, he treats her like a queen, a beautiful house, no more nannying and she doesn’t have to divulge her secret. Poppy soon starts to wonder why Drew suggested the pact, this isn’t helped by her best friend Gina, whois now staying with them, thinks he has to be hiding something. Gina is awkward around Drew, however Drew is polite and accepts her into their home and if anything makes excuses for her behaviour. It slowly start to untangle from here and through to the visit from Drew’s friends who come to stay for the weekend.

This book is a really easy read. Not a lot really happens for the best part of 3/4 of the book, but you don’t find yourself minding too much as it is easy. The book is set in present day, but flashes back to Poppy’s former life, which is evidentially her secret. Poppy’s childhood sounds a disturbed and unloving one, which I think has lead to Daddy and Mummy issues, which could eb why she has married an older man like Drew and what caused her to have her secret. The suspense is built up through the book and the reveal of Poppy’s secret was ok and a bit of a twist which worked. However the ending of this book felt a little out of kilter from the rest of the book for me, it left me feeling a little uncomfortable, but this could well have been the purpose.

All in all a good book. I got this as a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I give this 4/5.

4.5 stars

Poppy suddenly loses her job as a nanny and has to leave the house late at night. Whilst drinking at an all-night bar mulling over her options she meets Drew and four weeks later they get married. Drew suggests that he and Poppy don’t tell each other anything about their past lives, that they live only for the future they are building together, which Poppy jumps at the chance for a fresh start as she wants to hide from her own past.

Truth Hurts was definitely something different from what I was expecting, This is not you run of the mill love story; there are sinister undertones running through the novel and in those final chapters it caught me out. I certainly wasn't expecting that especially with the start of the book beginning with the house being demolished and me thinking oh yeah I know what's coming - nope totally got that wrong!

I rushed through thus book in about 4 days, wanted to know the secrets both Drew and Poppy held from each other. Bit of smut in it, but not over the top.

I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.

Poppy has just been sacked as a nanny and has nowhere to live. Sitting in a bar she meets Drew. Four weeks later they marry agreeing to forget the past and never talk of it.
It's an entertaining read but how Drew thought he could introduce Poppy to his friends without her discovering his secret is a bit of a stretch. Reading it I enjoyed the ride and was surprised by the ending. Well worth the read.

This book had such a good premise and I found myself really excited to read it. However, I felt that while the book had a good start that had me hooked the book quickly lost it’s appeal.

I found myself struggling to connect with Poppy and any of the characters in this book. I felt that the book felt slow at parts and the only thing that kept me going was Poppy’s flashback chapters and finding out Drew’s deep dark secret.

The twist at the end completely threw me and not in a good way. I felt like it was incredibly rushed and honestly came out of nowhere. I found myself sitting there wondering what I had missed because it just didn’t make any sense to me. Also there were little things happening in the house that were never answered and I just left this book feeling disappointed and let down.

The reason I’m giving this a three stars is because I did like Rebecca Reid’s writing and felt that if certain plot points were slightly different I would have found the book more enjoyable. I think I’ll be picking up more of Reid’s books to see if this was just a one-off for me.

This story was definitely something very different from what I was expecting. Nothing is at it seems and nothing will happen as you may think, at least the final chapters for sure.
It's told in short chapters from then and now in Poppy's life, it has a very good pace and interesting characters.
Yes, it's a bit predictable and maybe steamy for the first half but it's so much more in the second half of the book.
Everyone has a secret or more than one and are not always ready or willing to share them. But step by step they are revealed and it really shows how one truth can hurt.
Give it a try and maybe you'll like it as much as I did

Wow this book was surprising. The first few chapters don't reveal at all what it actually is, and then it's a very entertaining ride with lots of twists and turns. If someone tells you not to ask questions, then there must be lots of them to ask :)
Very good one!
Thanks a lot to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

A real page-turner of a thriller.

Poppy is a nanny who finds herself stranded in Ibiza after a late night sacking. To her rescue comes Drew, a rich and successful (and older) man. They are swept up in a whirlwind romance and agree that they shall look to the future and not burden themselves with questions about the past.

Their reasons for making such an agreement are gradually revealed as both harbour secrets from pasts they are desperate to escape.

Characters are convincing and the writing is well paced and easy to read. Revelations are satisfying although a few are rather easy to predict.

An author I did not recognise but I'll now be seeking out her debut and look forward to reading her future work too.
