This was my first time reading this author. This book is the second of a three book series. Although I can’t say I’m rushing out to get them all, I will say that this story had it all! If you like vampires, demons, possessions, and murder this is definitely the book for you. The entire time I was reading I kept thinking “this is the stupidest stuff I’ve ever read” but I couldn’t put it down!

This was a very good and suspenseful mystery. Just right for a quiet night in, and getting lost in this world. The nonstop suspense keeps your blood flowing!

I started reading this book without the knowledge that this was the second part in a series but I fell like this did not affect the way it read! I do feel like I want to go back and read the first part and then re-read whickering place though!

I really enjoyed this book. The story follows a woman named Avery, who after witnessing her boyfriend be killed in front of her becomes a recluse and refuses to leave her house. When her estranged dad passes away and leaves her his home in his will she makes the massive leap and decides to leave the comfort of everything she knows and moves into it.

This is all a great step in Avery moving forward until strange things start occurring! If you are into horror/Thriller/vampire books you will definitely love this twisty turny novel. I'm not usually a fan of vampire novel's but this one has a slight twist to it and it made it better than the usual vampire book.

I read this book in 2 days. I couldn’t put it down. I read the whole thing and then realized it was book two. But I absolutely love that it could stand on its own and was still amazing

'Whickering Place' is an intense horror read. . I really enjoyed the mood, characters and backstory. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I found it to be interesting.

This book started out strong but soon began losing steam. The first scene of the novel was exciting and dramatic and really made me want to read on. Unfortunately, the story really slowed down and became dull. The story wasn't helped by cuts to the demons and spirits that live in the house. Worse, I stopped caring about the characters pretty quickly. I only made it a forth of the way through before I decided I could not keep reading. Perhaps this book was just not what I was looking for but if you are searching for scares, this isn't it.

Second in the Legacy of Darkness series, this book had me believing in the modern day vampires it portrays and their cultish grip on their members. I’m not usually a fan of traditional vampire stories but this was more demonic and quite frighteningly realistic, with the ritualistic blood lust and obsession of The Colony. I will definitely read the next installment when it is released next year.

This book was fast paced. Hard to put down. It flowed well and it was very well written. It caught hold of me and had me hooked from the start . I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this book.

I’ve received an advance reading copy from Netgalley, London Clarke and it’s publisher in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own, honest opinions and are completely unbiased.

So I had the marvellous idea to read this book alone while my hubby was doing a back shift - wanting to add to the eeriness of this reading session - No Need what so ever.... I could’ve been in the middle of a dinner party and I’d still have been biting my nails and checking over my shoulder.
I finished the book around 5 am and hubby had 3 hours to go, let’s just say I did not sleep and every creak, crack thud (pipes) had me jerking my head. By the time he had landed home (I must’ve looked as though I hadn’t of slept as well) I was in full panic. I explained the reason for my “appearance” and he laughed at me... I bet him $50 that if he read it, and did not flinch once, it was his... 3 days later, I had a backshift... When I came through the door at 8am (we both work as nurses, in Mental Health inpatient care) my “knight in shinning armour” was sitting, wide awake in the living room, and you got it, holding a $50.00 in his hand!! Thank you Netgalley, this was definitely a book for the books (No pun intended)

Gripping, haunting, page-turner, memorable.

The Whickering Place is a novel with the perfect writing style for a 5 star horror novel. The main character Avery has emotional challenges to overcome with moving leading her into family skeletons, romance, and an unknown entity trying to take her life.

The novel goes between Avery's story then to the unknown haunting presence within the Whickering Place. The writing style was fantastic to me, pulling me in quickly from the first page.

Loved it, definitely recommend for a Halloween read. Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this novel and finding a new author to follow.

I was given access to this book via the publisher and thought it best to read the previous book first.

Although each book is a stand alone story and the town and surrounding area is the common theme, along with the insidious group which operates there.

I love all things vampire and supernatural and this book delivers both. However the vampires are all too human and are a group whose purpose is to aquire blood for their demonic masters

My only issue was the repetative nature of the story line. Ie damaged heroine, good guy who is snubbed and the anti hero who is the love interest.

I don't read many horror novels, maybe 2-3 per year, but this one sounded interesting. It follows Avery, who has inherited her father's mansion in North Carolina after a recent suicide. Although Avery's father was wealthy, he was very eccentric, and they weren't close. Come to find out that the house Avery has inherited has a paranormal history. This is unsettling for Avery, who is still not dealing well with a horrific trauma from years past and is emotionally crippled as a result. Author London Clark sets the stage well here with a large and creepy house that is sure to hold many secrets. As Avery begins to get a sense of this, you get the sense that whatever is in this house is going to eat her soul for breakfast!

However, she's not totally alone, as there are two brothers who are boarders there and have been staying at the house. As she gets to know them, it's not clear how they have lasted so long at the house. And Avery is still wondering what drove her father to commit suicide. This horror novel was well-written, with interesting characters that are pushed to the brink by the sinister forces inside the house. The supernatural entities in the house tease at Avery and the brothers' fallen humanity and attempt to seduce and pull at the strings that hold their sanity together. There are plenty of scenes to relish here, as the residents of Whickering Place try to keep some shred of humanity intact- will they be able to do so and survive, or will they succumb and be swept away? Avery in particular is a character to root for, as she has suffered much already, and it is an interesting journey as she struggles to leave her past behind and confront her fears. Recommended.

A solid 4.5 stars for a new age Horror read. I was instantly caught up in the story line and finished the book in record time.
Clarke tells of an agoraphobic YA named Avery whom inherits a supernatural filled house named Whickering Place after the suicide of her father, Ace. During her stay, Avery learns of The Colony, a group of modern day Vampires whom have just as bad a taste for blood as Whickering Place itself. There were twists and turns that I never imagined. I was really expecting Avery to fall in love with Dr. Gallagher and when she married his brother Pearse I was taken back!
Through the chapters, the author also lets the house speak it's own tail of horrors. Just from the cover photo of the book, I was vividly able to capture what the inside of Whickering Place looked like and the demons that crept with-in. I was able to picture Avery slipping through the secret passage leading to the master bedroom and even what the ballroom looked like.
I was a little sad at the ending just for the fact I didn't want the book to end, so the suspense for the next book release in 2020 is with me.

What do you do when you’re trapped with the monsters and your own mind keeps you from escaping? Avery has been through so much and the move she thinks will be a fresh start turns into a new nightmare. This book keeps you guessing until the end. You never know who to trust and at some point, everyone’s motives are suspect. This was good story with enough twists to keep it interesting.

Note: I received a promotional copy of this book for review purposes.

This was my first contact with this writer, but I will be looking for more of her work! I did not know before reading this book, but it is apparently the second book in the Legacy of Darkness series (The Meadows is the first book.)

This book takes place in Asheville, NC. It involves a young woman who inherits a house there (obviously I'm leaving out a lot of detail, but I personally don't like to include anything that resembles a spoiler!) and moves in. Weirdness ensues!! ;-)

I found the book to be well written and a quite easy read. But it really did hold my interest AND I found myself liking the central character and eager to find out what was happing to her. It wasn't as gory as some I have read (I'm a BIG fan of gore) but it was gory enough to keep me interested. Also, although there is some sexual content it is NOT graphic, which I appreciated. I read horror for the, well, horror, NOT for sex. Some horror novels read like soft (or hard in some cases....) porn and I don't really care for it. Graphic violence and gore, yes please. Graphic sex, unless it somehow is important to the plot, is not my favorite. This book got it JUST RIGHT in that case.

Whickering Place is my second book by Clark. Sadly I didn’t like this one as much as Hoarder House. I found it less original, the characters less compelling, and the flow at times a little painfully slow. There were also several typos which at times distracted.

A deeply traumatic event leaves Avery with a crippling case of agoraphobia for ten years. When her estranged artist father dies, she inherent Whickering Place - queue spooky theme music here - a large home with a troubled past shrouded in history. It’s the typical set up for some form of haunted house story. Clark goes through all the right motions in setting her story up, but I personally felt a bit like boxes were being checked.

The house does have a variety of troubling personages who begin vying with Avery for control of the old estate. Bowman takes two horror story standards and finds news spins on them. This should have kept them interesting, but I thought it ultimately made them a little more dull. I didn’t find the requisite explorations into how they are different interesting. It was sort of tedious, especially by the end.

Avery’s struggles with agoraphobia and posttraumatic stress disorder are consuming for her throughout the first 2/3 of the book. Without these character traits she would’ve been a very dull protagonist. However, they didn’t add enough to make me feel like she was a fully three dimensional character, especially after these traits seems inexplicable sporadical as the plot moves forward.

A love triangle is added to the story which, I’m sorry to say, just seemed sort of groan worthy. I also wondered if Clark thought so as well, since the triangle seems half heartedly committed to. But feeling half heartedly installed into the narrative, it makes me wonder why it was there at all.

There are also a series of chapters interspersed throughout the novel from the perspective of the antagonists which “haunt” Whickering Place. I never found these quite believable. They seemed off, like they were intrusive into a story that really could have gone better with out them.

Wow!!!! What a mind trip. I requested this book via NetGalley and I must tell you that it is simply fantastic. I was immediately enthralled with the storyline and characters and I now must get my hands on the first book before the third book releases. It isn't often that I read books out of order but after reading the synopsis of Whickering Place, I did not care and I am truly pleased that I did.

I wanted to read this in one sitting but adult responsibilities would not allow it!! I highly recommend this pulse-pounding read to one and all.

Thank you Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the eARC.
Avery has had agoraphobia for nearly a decade, after an attack that left her boyfriend dead and her severely wounded. She's been seeing a therapist for a long time, but now she has to say goodbye. Her estranged father, who committed suicide, has left her a mansion, Whickering Place, in Asheville, N.C. and she's moving there. The thought of the move has brought all her symptoms back with a vengeance...she's terrified.
Once there, she will meet the love of her life, fight demons of the paranormal as well as human kind and brought to the edge of insanity and death.
There will be more adventures to come for Avery in 2020, when the third in the series comes out.
This was an exciting, fun ride, if a bit over the top. For that reason I didn't find it scary at all, just a pleasant enough read.

Avery Tullinger has just moved to her dead father’s home called Whickering Place. She suffers from agoraphobia so moving from her former in a different city to this mansion is a big deal for her. Her father’s attorney, takes her to the mansion and asks if she wants to sell. She says no. Mariss Manners takes Avery on a tour of the place making Avery uncomfortable with her conversation. Why? She is glad that she has two tenants living in her new home as she won’t feel so scared of the place. The two tenants are brothers. One is a doctor, Colin, and Pearce is a phlebotomist. Until she meets them, she likes the idea of two elderly gentlemen living with her. As she grows to know them, she finds herself being more aware of “The Colony.” This is a cult that drinks blood and there are many members in the town. Her father was a member of this cult. Being curious, she goes to her father’s art studio and turns on his computer. She finds his electric journals and reads them. She reads them at different times. What she finds scares her but doesn’t know what to think, much less do. Why? What will she do?

This is a gripping novel. It is inventive and brimming with the supernatural. The novel has fascinating characters, powerful conflicts and complex emotions. It is written so that I found myself reading to see how conflicts were resolved or not resolved. There are surprises that I didn’t expect to happen. The ending is one of those surprises.

'Whickering Place' is an intriguing horror read for any advent horror fan. It manages to steer you in a completely opposite direction than what you original think it will go in. I really enjoyed the mood, characters and backstory.
Just under 500 pages, this is not a quick read. The pacing can slow in places, but does pick up quickly after.
