Great novel. Wish I’d read the predecessor in advance but will search it out. Tense and exciting storyline with well rounded characters

A complicated investigation for Cassie Dewell

Rachel Mitchell, a defense attorney in Bozeman, Montana asks Cassie Dewell to help her uncover the truth about her new client, Blake Kleinsasser who has been accused of raping his fifteen-year-old niece. This investigation is going to stretch her skills as a private investigator to the limits, especially as there are uncontrollable fires raging throughout Montana.

The case against Blake Kleinsasser seems airtight, but as Cassie starts digging into his family and siblings, she begins to see another side to the Kleinsasser family who seems to have ruled their territory of Lochsa County with fists of iron.

This was a very difficult case for Cassie Dewell, and nothing is safe for her, her son and especially not the client until the very last chapter.

CJ Box never disappoints. I love his books for the complex tales they always tell and for the bit of history on the area he is always able to slip seamlessly into his books.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC, which I have enjoyed reading.
I have always enjoyed reading the books by C J Box and the Cassie Dewell series is a masterclass in storytelling. The words just flow and the descriptions of the scenery is fascinating, all of his books are engrossing. The Bitterroots are about just one family and how their tentacles take over the community in which they have always lived.
Highly recommended.
