I enjoys sci-fi as a genre and this book hits the mark. I do feel like I should have read the first and second books in the series to get a better understanding of how they ended up where they did and why. But that's my issue. I did like the characters and the amazing worlds the author built. I appreciate that the romance takes a back seat to the sci-fi elements. Do your self a favor and read the first two books like I'm going to. It will be worth it if they're like this one. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Excellent book, and a worthy third part of an excellent series. To be fair, the series has turned more towards Space Opera rather than "pure" Science Fiction but the story is good, the writing is good, and I love Jordan and Ash. There are some clever ideas here too. I do strongly recommend reading the whole series starting with Unknown Horizons, but I loved this book. Excellent.

My first comment is that I did not read book one but have read 2 and now 3 in the series. I do not typically read sci-fi but I like to give difference a try. The "out there" not yet available technology was interesting and held my attention. I know the focus was on rescuing Captain Jordan Kellow and interacting with various others in doing so, but... I thought I knew what to expect however, I found myself going through the motion and not engaging with the story. I wanted to see more interaction between the MCs and that was not the case and this reader was disappointed even though the expectation and read was exactly what I expected. Go figure...

I love a good scifi world that works as hard to establish its world building and its characters in equal amounts. You can tell Birch does this and is fully capable of making her world come to life. I do have to say that I did not read the other books, and as this one picks up right after the events of book 2, I did feel lost at first. But I love the idea of putting the leads in the middle of two warring factions, with each character exposed to the sides. It was an interesting way to drum up some tension, especially since the characters already were involved with each other before the beginning of the book. It also creates an interesting idea of an unreliable narrator based on the character who's POV you are reading. I enjoyed that. Both leads are about as straightforward as you can get, but they do take in a lot of information that may or may not be true.

So, there are some problems - probably due to the fact that this book is part of the larger story arcs that started in the first two books. It is not a stand a lone, and there were times where I felt very, very lost, as Birch does not help very much with exposition. But, I think it is a solid scifi heavy book that relies more on the world building and scifi elements than its romance. Its a nice change of pace that lesfic authors are willing to work more with different genres than just romance.

This was a very good conclusion to the series. With great world building and many new characters this one packs a lot more action than the previous two installments.

Recommend it if you like action sci-fi!

I do love a good sci-fi. So this book was perfect for me, space and a romance. I think this book is the last in a series. I haven’t read the others, which doesn’t seem to matter as the back story is explained, so you can read it as a stand alone. But really it’s made me want to go back and read the other books; for clarification, but mainly because I would enjoy them. There’s nothing particularly new in the plot, but it’s well written, with great imagery and exciting battles, which makes it an enjoyable read. Indeed the imagery is vivid enough to suit a film. Surely this book could be reworked into a screenplay. Bold Strokes should be selling film rights. Trekkie fans would love it.

The ending worked, but I would have liked more. I’m not a massive fan of a epilogue that ties everything up too neatly. Having said that it does conclude and I prefer that to being left hanging. Enjoyable read and I will be looking out for more books by this author.

Alternating points of view, like reading two books in one.

Strong world building, characters are evolving with experience while facing challenges and fighting to survive an alien war.

Ok this was a good read but I'm really not into sci-fi reading I prefer to watch sci-fi because it seems better on screen then in a book.

Hey! Don't get me wrong I like this book I didn't read the first two and when I rebuild my book fund I will be getting them so I can read it as a whole.

This was action packed the main characters Jordan and Alison are basically separate. Alison is task to keep her and crew safe as she navigate the ship to bring back to Posterus.

While she struggle to do that she worry about her love Jordan who is dying in a escape pod when she is capture by a alien race as she struggle to get her freedom she is thrown in a middle of war as Ash is trying to save Jordan. It's basically two heroines who trying to save each other as a war going on around them.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

Since GR has apparently deemed this week, "sci-fi & fantasy" week (who decides that anyways????), I thought it would be appropriate to give Birch's book a shot before the week was up.

I have to say right off the bat that I put myself at a serious disadvantage going into this read. I didn't realize that this was the 3rd book in a series when I requested it, and haven't read books 1 or 2 in this series prior to picking this one up. Even though this obviously starts right in the middle of the action where book 2 apparently left off, I didn't feel lost or that anything was missed by starting up with just book 3. I was able to pick up what was happening fairly quickly. There are a few alien races and technology introduced, but if you're a sci-fi reader, you shouldn't have issues picking it up from this book forward.

Unfortunately, I just didn't enjoy the novel. I can tell that Birch really loves sci-fi and tried to create a series that's full of action, but I'm not sure that I understood the point of the book. The novel is action packed, but lacked in any real purpose or point other than to be an action-packed book set in the stars. Most of the book was spent with the MCs separated from each other, taken in by opposing alien races, and whining about how they wished they were back together with each other. Toss in lots of bombs and a last chapter HEA for the 'heroes' and it was over. Note that this seems to be the final book in the series, and it does NOT end in a cliffhanger like I read the other 2 in the series ended.

Maybe I would have felt differently had I read the others in this series, but I can't really say that I cared about what happened to any of the characters in this story. If you're looking for an action packed book set in space, this may be just the book for you. Unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected, not really what I wanted to read, and I can't say that I would recommend it. For me, this came in at 2.75 stars :(
