I really adore this series and I enjoyed reading this book despite the fact that it felt a bit like a filler book, a transition from Amory and Milo as married couple trying to find their way to embarking to something bigger. The mystery was ok, but I am the one who actually found that the NY setting did not really suit them. Looking forward to the next book.

This was just fabulous, another wonderful book in the Amory Ames cosy mystery series. I loved the change of scenery and enjoyed following Amory and Milo around 1930s New York.

As mentioned in the synopsis above Amory is excited about being a bridesmaid for her friend Tabitha. They haven’t seen each other for a while, and Amory is a bit concerned that all is not quite right between Tabitha and her future husband. Amory desperately wants to have some time to get Tabitha to confide in her, but there is always something wedding related going on. Things come to a head though when a murder takes place on the front steps of Tabitha’s home!

Just when Amory thought this was going to be a murder free holiday, the inevitable happens, plunging her and Milo into another mystery, but in a very unfamiliar place. This time they’ll be no help from Inspector Jones, Amory’s contact at Scotland Yard, and the New York police don’t seem very approachable. So, as to be expected Amory does a little detecting of her own. Was the murder related to gangsters, or could it be someone closer to home?

I’m not going to say any more except that as usual Amory and Milo find themselves in some tight places, making this a super mystery, with a few hilarious moments and surprises along the way.

I love this series and highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy historical fiction and cosy mysteries.

New York Beckons.....
Another hugely enjoyable instalment in the Amory Ames series. Sometime amateur sleuth, Amory and her sometime errant playboy husband, Milo, are off to New York for a wedding - with Milo being less than an enthusiastic travelling companion given the still present Prohibition laws. Needless to say, things soon go awry when a murder takes place amongst the wedding party. Atmospheric and engaging with Amory a likeable protagonist - this is a real treat. Thoroughly entertaining escapism and a worthy addition to the series.

A marvellous example of Golden Age crime fiction, with a great heroine. I shall be looking out for more of this s series.

Once again this series delivers another fantastic read. Amory and Milo are now in America and set out to solve another murder set in the Prohibition period. I do adore these books and like the way in each story the characters become more rounded and likeable. Hopefully this will not be the last in this series.

This book was very slow going. The character development seemed one dimensional and repetitive. It was hard for me to persist with the novel. I did however, and the last fourth of the book finally got some momentum. I recommend the earlier books in this series, but this one was a bit disappointing.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

Ashley Weaver has created a great detective duo. I love this series, so much care is taken into researching the era and it feels very authentic.

This was a slow burner of a story, but cleverly crafted, it never felt to drag.

I particularly like the relationship between Amory and Milo, who although seem to be happy and stable, there are still the occasional doubts and wobbles. I am really looking forward to the major challenges they have to come in the next book/a (I won’t say what it will spoil it for others).

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

I love this series, I recently discovered Amery and Milo Ames mysteries and was hooked.
I love this book even if I don't think it's the best in this series, I prefer those set in London and this it took quite a long time before the mystery part started.
Even it's a bit slow at the beginning I truly enjoyed this book and read it as fast as I could.
I was happy to meet again the usual characters and some new.
I liked the character development, the well researched historical setting and the engrossing plot.
The mystery was ok and the solution came as a surprise.
I look forward to reading the next instalment.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
