This was quite the interesting thriller, with Laurel's life taking an unexpected turn when she saves Paul's daughter from drowning. Laurel goes from a fairly boring life, to one filled with danger and intrigue. I don't think I'd quite call this a romance, but there was plenty of excitement within the pages. Kinsey does a great job of introducing twists to ensure the plot doesn't become boring or predictable. I enjoyed the characters, but felt like I could've gotten to know them better. I did like watching how Laurel changed along with her life circumstances, and seeing her slide further to the darker side of life. If you're looking for a thriller with a side of light romance, then you'll want to grab this one.

This was an entertaining read. Soccer mom turned gopher for the mob. I truly liked these characters and the strong willed Laurel. Maybe they’ll be another to continue the story on

Interesting book, but didn’t make sense to me. The character and story just didn’t jive. I had a hard time finishing this. The premise of the story sounded promising, but I was disappointed.

This is a rather ridiculous story, and the writing isn't very smooth, but it's amusing and has a strong female character that's very likeable. No masterpiece, but good entertainment.

A recently divorce mother of end thirties saves a small girl from drowning. Her father turns out to "be connected". He tells her he will always help her because of that. She ends up working for him.
The story is like a series about the world of criminals although the criminal activities are vague sometimes.
You are never told what is really going on in their heads.
I had expected more of a romance novel.

I absolutely loved this captivating, soccer-mom-meets-the-mafia book. The characters were outstanding, and there were palpable feelings of both bleak determination and the will to survive mixed in with innocence, proactive denial, naiveté, cynicism, loyalty, friendship, sorrow, betrayal, and misplaced honor. I haven't spent much time back East, but the descriptions and the attitudes of the people made it feel like we were there too. The ending left it open for a sequel, and I hope that happens because I’d love to see what happens next.

I was given a copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

this was an interesting concept for a book that didn't disappoint. I'm glad the characters didn't feel like cartoons and that it kept an interesting premise.

The premise of this story is great, but I found so many inconsistencies and things that simply didn't make sense to be able to really endorse this book.

The struggling single mom, a decent person, rescues a little girl. The girl's dad, a consigliere of the local mob, is so grateful that he offers our heroine a open ended favor. Our heroine is involved in a violent event that results in her friend's death. Overcome, she asks for the favor.....
The mob guy, Paul, takes a liking to her and offers her a totally cake job: easy work and good pay, with a few stipulations.
Ok, so far.

But the language and behavior of both of them just doesn't ring true. When this powerful mob guy refers to her 'vibe', they lost me.

I did read the hole thing, more to find out what happens than actually enjoying the story.

With some really decent editing and a little more realistic behavior, this could be a much better story.
