Fantastically spooky book! I don’t read many non-fantasy books but this one had me gripped right to the end!
I am a huge fan of horror movies so i kind of went in with high hopes but I wasn’t let down! There were so many false leads and plot twists and shocks and scary moments I felt like I was watching a movie with how tense I got!
The characters are so well rounded too, I really felt like I had a good feel for their personalities quite quickly, which is very hard to do in horror!!
Excellent book!

Another great book by Luca Veste but much different from his usual books. A bit like I know what you did that summer and felt I knew the way it would end right the way through but nope I was wrong, great twist completely unexpected. Fabulous book!

The Six by Luca Veste - a standalone thriller about a serial killer - centring around six friends now aged in their mid-thirties who decide to attend a 90s revival music festival.

A really good read, couldn't put it down. Gripping and full of tension. Great twists at the end too, which genuinely surprised me.

This was a ride! I was curious the whole way through. How was someone who was supposedly dead suddenly targeting them? I needed to know! There was a very specific false herring that I bought in to and if it had turned out to be true I wouldn't be mad at it. As it stands I also liked the actual twist.

I would recommend.

Unfortunately this was a dnf for me, I really disliked all the characters and thought it was all a bit unbelievable

Wow the opening chapter gave me the chills, what an opening!

The rest of the story is told from Matt’s POV who is one of the group of six.

The first half of the book really sets the scene and introduces you to all the characters, I found this a little bit slow but it did not take away from the book.

This book had such 90’s vibes as the group of six went to relive their youth at a 90’s inspired Glastonbury style festival. I loved the references to the 90’s, I’m a 90’s child myself so I got to relive some of it with the characters. It also had flashbacks to the MC youth and events that happened which may have lead to the choices they made. I found the characters very real and relatable and liked that this book showed the aftermath of the choice they made that fateful night. Especially, how it can affect you mentally but also the relationships around you. I actually really felt for the main character Matt and how everything in his life fell apart and kept thinking if only they didn’t make that choice maybe things might have been different.

The second half of this book really hooked me, as things take a turn for the worse and everyones fears start coming out with the year anniversary of that fateful night approaching. I found this was a fast paced psychological thriller that had me constantly guessing throughout and I had many different theories as to what might be going on, not that I had any of them right as the author kept making me think one thing than hitting me with another. I did not see the twist coming, although I am no detective but I do love it when a book completely surprises you.

Overall, I enjoyed this read especially as it is not my typical genre. I really loved that this book surprised me and had me guessing till the end.

I would rate this book a solid 3.5/5

I apologize for such a late review. I thought I had sent it. I am a fan of Luca Veste's writing and this book didn't change my mind. Loved the characters, the 90s reference. And I did not see that twist coming. Highly recommend.

A compelling tale from an exciting voice in British crime fiction. Luca Veste broke through with some intriguing tales that showed dashes of Mark Billingham - darker British police procedurals - and in recent times has spread his wings even further. THE SIX is an exciting tale that's kinda 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' meets Stephen King; a dark tale of friendships and secrets coming to light. Well worth a read.

I love thrillers (you can't imagine how much) and meeting this one was an absolute pleasure to the end.

A reading full of intrigue and that blows your mind when you have to distrust everyone.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

Six old school friends go to a festival that ends in murder. They have to live with this burden untill a year later the group starts to crack and they fear that a serial killer is after them to pay for what happened.
Wow what a gripping read! Even from the off I was captivated by this story. I loved the 90s references and it brought back some very good memories of the era. I was constantly trying to guess who the killer was and really thought I'd cracked it untill the end. It was such an unexpected twist I didn't see it coming. It was good to have the rewind sections to the groups teenage and uni years. It helped build a picture of the group dynamics. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more by Luca Veste if they are all page turner's like this one

I could not finish this book - the writing was flat and the characters were uninteresting. I found it hard to care about the characters, which is important to me when reading a story.

Reading The Six was like the satisfaction of a cuppa after you’ve been gasping for one, but better. Luca really has this genre in the palm of his hand. I loved The Six and will eat my hat if you don’t too!

I received a free eARC of The Six but that has in no way influenced my review.

The Six sang to me! It called my name and screamed 'MUST READ' as soon as I laid eyes on it. What a perfect synopsis and what a glorious cover. Not to mention, of course, that every Luca Veste book I have read in the past has been an absolute winner. I thoroughly enjoyed this tense, unsettling read.

Six friends (three couples to be precise) in their 30s who feel the impending ties of age and responsibility pack up their tents and head to a 90s music festival to relive their youth for a weekend. Turning the clock back to the days when they had no cares, no real responsibility and life was one big endless party. They throw caution to the wind, indulge a little and let their hair down. But then something happens and someone is killed. They panic, everything about the situation makes them look really really bad, so they bury the body and swear to never tell anyone else or talk about it again. They convince themselves that they've done the right thing. That in the end, everything will work out for the best. That is, until another body is discovered and they realise someone outside the group knows their devastating secret...

This is a wonderful character-driven book and another cracker from Veste. The Six starts with quite a light-hearted tone, with lots of references to 90s culture which I absolutely lapped up. The group are all a little younger than me so I really related to their memories of the music and culture of the time. Then things take a deadly turn. From there, it's downhill for the group and life will never be the same again. The reader is whisked from the shocking events of that fateful night to one year later, where things are very different. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to see how one daft decision would impact a group of characters, some I was starting to warm to. The secret they carry weighs heavy, relationships have broken down and guilt is gradually destroying their lives. But that's all I'm going to say on that because this is a serial killer thriller and I feel that by saying much more, I'll reveal something I shouldn't and nobody wants that. 😉

Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. If you're a fan of slow-burn psychological suspense novels with a cast of intriguing characters then you definitely need to pick The Six up. This book, for me, was all about the characters as I watched them slowly unravel as they realised what a terrifying predicament they had found themselves in. Very well written, clever plotting and tons of wonderful suspense. Recommended.

I chose to read and review an eARC of The Six. The above review is my own unbiased opinion.

It feels like forever not only since I wrote a review on this blog, but since we had a new book from one of my favourite authors, Luca Veste. As much I miss his Murphy and Rossi crime series, I am enjoying seeing Luca evolve as an author and keep on trying new things as opposed to sticking to a tried and tested formula.

It’s hard to know where to start with The Six, in fear of not wanting to give too much away. What I can say is it is a haunting novel with a story I won’t be forgetting for a while yet. I loved all of the 90s references in the beginning as we are introduced to our six characters on their way to a music festival, and seeing them reminisce on the way. There was some sense of being able to relate to some of them, the main characters are a few years older than me but I am only a few months away from the dreaded 30, so I am very much a 90s baby. I loved all of the pop culture references. Luca does a brilliant job of giving each character a personality and making each one shine through, despite the fact that we follow the story from the point of view of just one character, Matt. Something then happens at the festival that changes the lives of all six characters forever.

The story picks up a year later as we see a very different Matt, and I have to say Luca has done a fantastic job with this character in making his thoughts and change in character so real and so haunting. His thoughts and feelings are so palpable, his fear so believable and the whole story is endlessly gripping because of seeing everything from his point of view. Despite chapters showing our characters at various points in their friendships together giving away some clues as to what exactly might have happened, The Six for the most part contains a truly gripping mystery where you really have no idea just who you can trust or where the story is eventually going to go. The story had me thinking about my own friendships, and imagining what I would do in the scenarios that these characters find themselves in. I wouldn’t say that I liked Matt for the majority of the story, or indeed any of the characters, but it’s interesting how you can look at a character differently once you’ve finished the story.

A real highlight of The Six is the atmospheric quality to it. Rather than simply feeling as if I was reading a book, I instead felt like I was trapped in one of those dreams where you watch something from afar but are unable to have an effect on it or prevent what you are watching from happening. Whether it’s a simple scene such as Matt meeting a character at an almost deserted motorway service station, the six friends returning to the woods to find a dead body has vanished or the emotionally charged scene of meeting a missing person’s father, every scene is brought to life so vividly that you can’t help but feel like a bystander, I lived each and every scene as I read.

The tension never stops building throughout the story until it results in an astonishingly brilliant finale, sometimes you just finish a book and look around in wonderment as you return to the real world, The Six is one of those books. All of the horror-esque moments aside, the denouement of this story was just incredible. So brilliant in fact that it almost felt real and completely believable. This could all too easily be a story on the front page of every newspaper, and it could also be the next big drama that has the whole nation talking about it. But for now it’s one of the best crime novels published in the last 6 months and I implore everybody to pick it up and read it. The sign of a good book is one that you can’t stop thinking about when you aren’t reading it, and one you can’t stop thinking about when you’ve finished reading it. The Six is one of those books. Luca Veste is a real talent and this might be his best book yet. No, this is his best book yet.

It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally written my review of Luca Veste’s THE SIX – and what a read it was!
Set in Liverpool, the reader is taken on a journey of friendship, relationships, secrets, fear, consequences, blame, change, growing up, mistrust, the truth and finally justice…

WOW! WOW! WOW! Luca Veste delivers a short, sharp and oh-so-shocking opening that had me hooked! But then…OMFG…I can’t say… how the hell do you come back from that?! There’s a real psychological edge to this crime thriller – a build up of suspense with a dual timeline and some red herrings thrown in to keep us amateur detectives on our toes! With a good pace, great sense of place and a tight and somewhat unreliable narrative at times, this story is very much character driven.
The story is told mainly from Matt’s POV and we get a good picture of the five friends both in the present time and how their past formed their future friendship/relationships. I liked that we get to learn about each person through reflections of their history together to the point where we start to see where everything changed – cracks develop and then OMFG…like I said at the start – where do you go from there! The one thing that connected them all together forever…ultimately split them all apart.

Would I recommend this read? In a bloody heartbeat, I would! A spine-tingling page-turner that will get right under your skin. It was dark, edgy and will keep you turning the pages well into the night! I definitely recommend you grab a copy of THE SIX – can’t wait to see what the author has coming next from that twisted brain!

I thought this book was fine, it was easy to read and was well written. It wasn't much of a Thriller though, there wasn't really any suspense or tension throughout. I did really enjoy the end and finding out who the murderer was I just wish there was hints throughout the book. I don't think It's really possible to guess. I do wish the whole book was more like the end as it did get quite exciting.

I would say this story was more about guilt and grief than a thriller or murder mystery. Its about living with terrible things and not being able to tell anyone about them. This can ruin relationships and cause a whole heap of mental health issues. I did dislike the fact that there was six main characters but we only see one point of view, I would have liked to have seen more!

Overall a decent book but a very slow start and not enough character development.

Now if you've seen I Know What You Did Last Summer you kind of know the plot to this. A group of childhood friends commit a murder and then decide to cover it up. Jump forward a year later and someone knows and is watching them.
I enjoyed this one, even though I did not like a single character. Not liking a character is fine for me this and I can understand why they are the way they are. Told through the eyes.of Matt we see how the group became friends and how the murder has affected their friendship. As a teenager of the 90's I enjoyed all the 90 references throughout this book and it definitely made me remember some songs I'd forgotten about!
I did not see the ending of this coming, which is not unusual, but I thought the author did a great job with providing a pretty convincing red herring in this one!
