Something old... something new... something you can never undo...

I started Dead to Her not knowing what to expect, but not sure I was going to enjoy it, set in the Southern States as it is (note - I have nothing against the Southern states but I just don’t know enough about the places to picture them). Boy was I wrong!

When elderly widowed millionaire returns from his grief trip to Europe with a beautiful, British and YOUNG new wife, his social set of friends are surprised but welcome her tentatively into the fold. All except Marcie, herself a younger second wife, who isn’t sure of either the newcomer or her husband’s intentions...

A bit of a slow burn until we get to the Whodunnit crime, but with regular breadcrumbs of secrets along the way, this book is an absolute rollercoaster of twists and turns. You think you’ve worked out whodunnit... and then you think you’ve worked out whodunnit... and then when you DO find out, you won’t believe you missed it.

When the newly widowed William returns home from abroad with a new, very much younger, beautiful English wife, he sets off some huge ripples in the Savannah pond. What can impoverished Keisha see in elderly but wealthy William! Full of unlikeable characters, all with hidden agendas, barbs wrapped in saccharine, hilarious put downs - fantastic. Loved the descriptions of Savannah, the way everyone had their parts to play depending how high up the social chain they were. A great gift for Christmas or any other time!

A little voodoo meets Housewives of New Orleans. Not a bad storyline but dragged on a little too much for me with an underwhelming ending. I found all the characters vapid and unlikeable.

Cracking storyline that I really didn't want to end. I ended up taking ages to read it so it would last that little bit longer

I have read Sarah Pinborough's other novels and I loved them all the same! i would recommend this book to anyone, there is something about the writing and plot that is just so gripping that you just do not want to put this book down once you start reading it.

I did not enjoy this as much as I though I would. The characters seemed to be a bit wooden and cliched, and the plot was rather slow moving. I hoped for better as I have previously enjoyed books by this author.

This review is coming a month later - I honestly can't remember that much about it. I was pretty disappointed with this book to be honest. I read ' Behind her eyes' last year and loved it! So when I saw this book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I like her writing style and I like that she adds a paranormal twist in to the plot but this just didn't hit the mark for me. Its not a bad book, I was just expecting more!

Dead to Her follows Marcie Maddox; she's married to Jason a high flying lawyer, they have a great house,wealth and are in a prestigious friendship group but life is not so easy. Marcie is a a lot younger than her husband and she was his mistress before his wife, she finds it hard to be accepted in to the group as all the other wives are older and she feels if she is an impostor.

Jason's boss William Radford has been a trip to England following his wife's death and comes back with a new bride, that is even younger and more beautiful than Marcie. Keisha is very young, vibrant and seems to be everything that Marcie isn't. Keisha and Jason seem to be hitting it off and niggles are starting to get under Marcie's skin that Jason may stray just like he did before with his ex-wife. Marcie needs to protect everything she has to keep Jason, she has worked so hard for this, she cannot be poor again!

This is told from alternating POV'S from Marcie and Keisha. They both have equally complex backgrounds and worked from the bottom to where they are today. They don't hit it off as Keisha is beautiful and an awful flirt and Jason can't keep away and acting odd.
Keisha is from London brought up by her Uncle and Aunt, has mental health issues and thinks she is cursed, she takes drugs just to get through-unknown to her new husband.
Marcie was a waitress at a diner before meeting Jason - has a past which she keeps under wraps as Jason doesn't need to know all that.
There are quite a lot of side characters in this book and they are all quite complex and become entangled but for me it was a little too late. It wasn't that exciting and the first half is just about getting to know the characters. You then get the mystery but its pretty obvious who it is. Then there is the paranormal, it just seemed pointless in this book. I really didn't like it and don't think it added much to the story really.

Overall, this was ok! It had complex characters but not much of a story line

I was bored with this book so I almost gave up with it then the story turned into an interesting direction, not what I was expecting. I persevered to the end but I can’t really understand the 5 stars it’s been given . It was an ok story a few twists at the end but not really tense enough for me .

Marcie is happy. She’s married to a gorgeous successful lawyer, she’s part of a well-to-do circle of friends. Enter stage left Keisha…. and her entrance changes everything.

I had no issue following Marcie through this rocky journey. And what a journey it is!! The deeper I traveled into this privileged community, the more twisted the lengths people go for those they love get. You name it, they probably did it… and there is little Marcie can do as she sees cracks start to appear in her relationships.

Dead To Her is a tense thriller questioning loyalties under a community determined to look good. Nothing is quite what it seems.

This was an okay mystery: bit slow paced and predictable at times, but generally entertaining. A great holiday read

This book sounded very promising and got me really interested right from the beginning. Enjoyed the characters and storyline but at one point I started to lose interest. It started to drag a bit and go into subjects I wasn't exactly enjoying as much. Last few chapters with the twists have saved it for me but in general it wasn't my favourite book by this author I'm afraid.

Set in Savannah, Georgia, this story unfolds around a tight knit group of Southern Society. Money, bloodlines, status, all symbols of acceptance. So when newly-widowed William Radford returns from a post-bereavement trip to Europe with an unusual souvenir - the ebony & youthful Keisha - more than a few feathers are ruffled. The only other 2nd wife in the group, Marcie, should be a natural ally but Marcie doesnt like how her hubby looks at the newcomer. Someone always loses in the game of life, but would someone kill to win?
This book has it all - money, power, prejudice, control; but it is the secrets that will be everyone's undoing. And you won't be able to stop guessing who's guilty and of how much.

This is not my usual genre,  however I wanted to take the opportunity to read something from outside my norm. And I am glad I did!! Thank you for  opening up my mind to something totally different. Characters were so well developed that I felt as though I knew them. I love when a book draws you into the story and it feels like you are living it with them.

Superb story, excellent writing, full of drama with plenty of twists and turns. I loved it and don’t want to give anything away but it covers life in Savannah, black magic, love, murder, betrayal but all with a great flair for humanity & with empathy. Highly recommended.

Although I loved the authors writing style, I struggled to get into this book.the storyline, for me, wasn't fast paced enough and I found myself at times losing interest until right near the end.

After reading Behind Her Eyes and being surprised by ‘that twist’, I was really looking forward to reading another book by this author. However, I was left feeling disappointed.

I wasn’t gripped by the story or the characters and so really wasn’t interested in how the events turned out and the ending.

However, and thankfully, it was a fairly quick read so I can now move on to my next read.

This novels follows a wealthy group of friends in Savannah. Marcie was the youngest, newest wife when she married Jason but now their friend (and Jason’s boss) William has arrived home from Europe with a very young and very beautiful wife, which immediately unsettles the group. The writing in this book is so good, I felt the heat and the claustrophobia and the tension radiate off the page and this is what kept me reading. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the storyline as much as I normally do with Sarah Pinborough’s novels, it just felt like there wasn’t as much depth to it. The characters are quite similar to each other and all have similar horrible agendas, I wanted to understand more about them. There was enough in the writing to keep me reading to the end though and it was a fun read. I think maybe it was me that was the issue rather than the book.

Thanks so much for this gifted digital review copy. Unfortunately this book just wasn’t for me. I found that I couldn’t connect with any of the characters or the setting, and the plot just didn’t retain my interest.
I would be keen to read the author’s other books though as I did admire her writing style.

A brilliant dark read, Marcia is the second wife to Jason. When his bosses wife dies. He meets keisha. Who was absolutely stunning. It was obvious to anyone taking notice how much attention she was getting from men. Marcia watched Jason and realised in that instant that she would have to keep her eye on him.. Marcia never thought she would have a lifestyle that cane when she married Jason in the high society. So she definitely not ready to give that up for anyone, it’s a really well written book with a hypnotic drama. With twist aster twist windings up to a rollercoaster of a ride, although not my normal genre I was mesmerised with this book. I was really struggling to put it down. It felt like I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough. For me it was awsome I knew one I had started the book I wasn’t putting it down until I had actually finished it. Compelling read. Very very highly recommend you read this. You definitely will kick yourself the more you hear about if you didn’t read. As far as general fiction goes if you only read one book in general fiction this is the one you have to read, my number one book in this genre. It’s my first book my this
author. It’s definitely not going to be my last I assure you.
