Don't let the slow start stop you from reading this book - once it gains momentum, it doesn't slow down! The characters were great, I especially loved Maeve. I thought the world-building was good, and it's easy to imagine the story unfolding before your eyes like a movie. The action scenes are vividly described, and will definitely get your heart racing. An interesting sci-fi/fantasy story that holds promise for this new series.

I picked up this title when I wasn't really sure how NetGalley worked and just realized it's been on my shelf for like 3 years. My apologies, but I can't find the review I wrote, though I do recall it was very enjoyable.

This is a really good mix of hard core Science Fiction and Fantasy.

I did find it hard to follow at the start with all the different names thrown at you.

Although far fetched in places this has everything you could wish for.

The action comes at you non stop and makes this a real page turner.

With a relatively slow pace to start with and a lot of world building that spoiled my initial enjoyment of the tale. Once the plot got moving however the storyline became more enjoyable.

Not what I expected. It lacked some character development which is always something I look for in my books. Still, an entertaining read.

Quite a surprise this one. It manages to incorporate magical creatures within a space setting, almost firefly with fairies. Joking aside I actually quite enjoyed what I read. The plot became more interesting as it progressed.I found the characters well defined and the world building interesting.. I would possibly read on if I came across the sequel.

This book is filled with a long history of world building and has a very slow beginning. I found the characters to be interesting and wanted to know more about them as the story progressed. The flashbacks were my favorite part but at times I found this book to be confusing. The plot and setting is interesting enough to give this book four stars. I think if you invest in this book you’ll find that it’s really worth reading. I would recommend it to all my fantasy loving friends that enjoy a book with thorough world building.

This started out super slow, I almost stopped reading it. Each character had their own backstory, and I loved the flashbacks. The world-building is great, which is what I enjoyed the most.

I enjoyed this author and will be reading more from her in the future.

While this started slow, this was actually a really good book, and the characterisation and pace picked up. I'm hanging on the edge of my seat and will be reading more of the author's books!

This starts off very slow and I almost gave up, but I'm glad that I didn't! The characters all had their own interesting backstories and I particularly enjoyed the flashback parts as it gave us a glimpse of their past. There is lots of world-building which can seem a lot at first, but I did pick it all up eventually. Maeve's history was an aspect of the storyline that I enjoyed the most, and I think her character/story has a lot of promise.
All in all, it was interesting and has potential. I'd recommend it to those who are a bit more experienced in the sci-fi/fantasy genres as it can be a tad heavy at times.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Meh

"Crucible of Stars" was originally published in 2009 and it shows its age a bit. Space opera is more sophisticated now. As I was reading I kept questioning the science and the character motivations. The story and the characters did not grab my interest.

"Crucible of Stars: The Reforged Trilogy Book 1" by Erica Lindquist and Aron Christensen was first released in 2009 by Loose Leaf Stories who then re-released it in 2014 and again in 2018.

Once I began reading the story I was captivated. Good writing style, good story, great characters. I hope that there will also be some romance in the next books

I was really surprised with this one!
It was a slow start, but eventually picked up and kept me interested.
It was fresh and new. And I liked that. It had the right amount of action, adventure and drama.
Looking forward to reading more from this author!

Enjoyable read, interesting characters but I just felt it lacked something, a certain spark. But still a nice read.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

An enjoyable science fiction adventure with engaging characters and plot. I would gladly add this book to my shelf — and read other titles to follow.
