This was a good read, the only downfall was the slow start. There are enough twists and turns to keep you reading, I couldn’t put it down once I got past the slow start. The ending was a good and unexpected, the characters were interesting and the story itself has plenty of suspense. I haven’t read any of this authors books before, but I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading psychological thrillers.

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Brilliant, such a good read! Lainey is a "spiky" character but still easy to get behind. So many twists and turns and I didn't expect the twist.

This book is hard to describe as a great read because of the awful abuse Lainey suffers but it had me gripped till the end . The story is exciting and heartbreaking at same time. Loved all the characters especially Lainey. Don't want to give any spoilers but was not expecting the ending Would definitely recommend this book.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

An excellent debut. A twisty story of the suppressed memories of a troubled young woman. Kept me reading late into the night.

A really good debut novel. A little confusing in places, but a good read nonetheless. I did find the plot a little predictable. Recommended reading.

Lainey is struggling with life. She is living in a run down apartment, working two dead end jobs and relying on drink and pills to get her through each day. That all changes when she sees a poster for a missing girl Olivia Shaw. her old life comes flooding back. She wasn't always Lainey and she knows what Olivia is going through. All her old memories are flooding back except the main one, what really happened her and who was the perpetrator. the police come to her asking these questions again in the hope that Olivia can be found on time.
Lainey is a very sad but complex character. She wants to help but is afraid of her demons. This is a suspense flled book as we follow her journey and see her face her past. I enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

I thought this was a very good debut novel from Nina Laurin. It is a very dark and gripping thriller. Thirteen years ago a young teenage girl escaped from her kidnapper who had abused her for three years. She was given a new identity but her kidnapper was never found. Lainey, her new name, had a troubled childhood and has never recovered from her ordeal. She is a drug addict, an emotional wreck and is still tormented with her memories of this time. One day she sees a flier with a photo of another young girl, Olivia, who has gone missing and Lainey knows straight away that it’s the same man as the young girl looks identical to what she looked like all those years ago. She needs to help the police find Olivia but she has blocked all memories out so she must now confront her past to save her. The book covers issues of drug abuse, rape and lots more and is full of twists, turns and surprises and an ending I didn’t see coming. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Wow,Wow and Wow again, this is a totally riviting twist packed story that I would gladly give far more than five stars if I could and would happily recommend to anyone who enjoys reading a damn good thriller.

Ten years ago Ella Santos escaped from the clutches of the monster who had kidnapped her and abused her for three years. She has changed her name to Lainey and has tried really hard to get on with her life but the person who kidnapped her has never been caught and Lainey has always known that one day that person will strike again and now it's looks like he has.

Olivia Shaw has disappeared from outside the entrance to her school, the right look, the right age,the right circumstances and she could be a mirror image of Lainey thirteen years ago.

Lainey just wants to get on with her life but sometimes you can't move on until you confront events from your past.

This gripping thriller is voiced by Lainey who understandably after everything that she has been through is a emotional wreck. She is a drug addict who has a short temper but deep down inside she is just a lost little girl who just wants to be loved. She didn't have a very nice life before she was kidnapped and it didn't get any easier after she escaped,I just hope real kidnap victims are not treated the same way that she was treated throughout the book. The characters are well developed, realistic and totally untrustworthy, the story is fast paced, packed full of twists and you have no idea what has happened to Olivia until the very last chapter.

This is a very well written debut thriller that had me hooked from the gripping prologue right to the very last word and I look forward to reading more books by this author in the future.

I have read so many great books from netgalley but was a little disappointed with this one. It had the potential to be great but was too slow and felt like I was going round in circles and the story was being dragged out.
That being said it did have a good ending And I was surprised.

A slow start and then the rollercoaster began and I was hooked. I was alternatively protective of or frustrated with Laine but I always felt for her which was really good. The author had a good way of introducing characters and then showing their strengths and their flaws which I liked. I will be looking for more by this author.

Laine Moreno was abducted when she was ten and managed to escape three years later though her kidnapper wasn't caught. Ten years on and Laine sees a poster of another missing ten year old Olivia, who looks a lot like she did at the same age. Now Laine has to confront what happened to her in order to help the police find the missing child. The book was a slow burner with most of the action taking part towards the end of the story. Some surprising facts emerge about Laine's abduction and her connection to Olivia. This is quite a dark story with the main character Laine seemingly under the influence of drugs most of the time. However I did enjoy it.

Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin........WoW what a brilliant read this was. It had everything you want in a book. It was dark thriller with lots of twists and turns. Plus, it was a good page turner I could not put it down. I was hooked from the first few pages.
Before I knew it the birds where singing outside my bedroom window and it was time to get up.........So don't start to read this brilliant book before you go to bed!!!

I highly recommend this brilliant book. Very hard to believe this is a debut! Looking forward to Nina's next book.

Thank you NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and Nina Laurin the author for providing an advanced copy of this book for me to read in exchange for my honest review

When Olivia goes missing and Lainey sees a picture of her, she is reminded of her horrible past. Lainey is afraid what might have happened to the little girl that looks so much like her.
It took me longer than normal to get through the book and part of it was the many graphic descriptions and the crude language. Not a fan of that. Plus the story unfolds very slowly and I like stories driven forward with something happening along the way. I have to admit that I had picked the wrong man for the kidnapper and there are some twist I didn’t see coming.

Fine for a holiday read.

I was drawn in at the start of the book but quickly got frustrated with the characters and the absurd blatant disregard to reality. Things that you might see on a TV drama that would never happen in an actual investigation.

It became quite obvious to me who the culprit was once the character appeared, then it was just a matter of getting through the book to see how the situation would resolve itself.

Sad to say the horror factor of her recollections as a victim was the most memorable part of this book.

**Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

With thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for this ARC in exchange for an open and honest review.

I.don't like to criticise authors hard work. I am a book worm and normally read two books a week.. However I really had to force myself to read this and took over a week to finish.

The plot of Girl Last Seen sounded interesting, however it was a slow burner and didn't pick up until I had read 70% of the book. The main problem was Lainey was not a likeable protagonist. Even before she was kidnapped she had come from a difficult background. I can understand why she was guarded but she was still hard to sympathise with. She constantly popped pills which put her In dangerous situations.

However the scenes between Lainey and her mother were heart wrenching. I just wanted to hug Lainey and make the pain go away.. I was absolutely sure I knew who the Kidnapper but I was completely wrong.

Although the story did not grab me, i did not give up on it. I would read another book by Nina Laurin in the future.
