I really struggled to get into Emmerdale at War. Being a fan of Emmerdale I thought I’d love the book but I struggled and after a few chapters I gave up, it was not for me.

I've never read any of these books But I do love a bit of Emmerdale! and who doesn't?! So when this came available to read I had to request Emmerdale at War by Pamela Bell. This is the third book in the Emmerdale series and I just loved it. It is set during the Second World War and it was a gem of a read. It transports you back to the Yorkshire Dales and we follow the loved Dingles, Anne Pearson, Sugdens and many more famous loved families of the Emmerdale series.

Highly recommend this book. I haven't read the other two books but will be purchasing them.

Big Thank you Many thanks to Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

It's an engrossing and entertaining read, I liked the well researched historical background, the fleshed out cast of characters and the description.

Britain is at war once again and the families of Emmerdale are trying their best to cope with a new way of life. Rationing has been introduced across the country, two million more men have been called up for service, and blackouts, evacuees and military training camps have become the norm. In Beckindale, three young women are about to find their lives changed forever.

Annie Pearson is working on Emmerdale Farm, while her love, Edward Sugden is at the front line. Lily Dingle has found purpose in joining the ATS, though she may get more than she bargained for. And Meg Warcup, now teaching at the local school, has taken in two children evacuated from Hull. They have adjusted to their new way of life until one day a German plane comes crashing down in the village... and changes everything in the village of Beckindale.

The third novel in the Emmerdale series transports us to the Yorkshire Dales in the midst of World War II, exploring the lives of Emmerdale's much-loved families. Will the nation's favourite village overcome adversity to deal with the loves and lives lost?

Absolutely loved this book and raced through it in no time. A brilliant set of characters and a plot packed with emotions. HIghly recommended!
*** Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for granting me access to this title.

If you’re a fan of Emmerdale reading this will feel familiar and nostalgic. Set during World War Two this follows the story of Emmerdale farm and the residents of nearby Beckindale. As you’d expect being set during the war it deals with rationing, blackouts, evacuees, being sent to war and captured prisoners of war. It’s a beautiful but heartbreaking snapshot of village life.
