Whilst acting as a volunteer steward at Warwick Races, Bill Russell is informed that his wife has been murdered, her body having been found by her estranged brother, who immediately starts accusing Bill of the murder. Facing trial by media, he finds himself being shunned by friends and colleagues who believe the allegations are true. As the police don’t seem to be looking for anyone else, Bill sets about trying to prove his innocence and also to find the real killer, despite still grieving for his wife.

As always with Felix Francis this book was very well researched, nicely written and the characters well rounded. I was really looking forward to reading this new novel, so I’m slightly surprised that I didn’t enjoy it more than I did and don’t really know why. The ending seemed to let it down, although a twist is always good. However, well worth a read.

Thank you Net Galley. This was a terrible book. Because it was Felix Francis I persevered through the book, hoping it would get better. It did not. I don't know what he was trying to write. It was definitely a thriller. If it had been any one but Felix Francis I would not have finished the book.

I enjoyed this book, the main character was very likable and he had my sympathy .I guess the characters were a bit black and white, there never seemed to be any doubt that the brother in law was really horrible, but that was ok.I liked the facts about racing and other subjects that were scattered throughout the book too.The story was good, and kept me guessing, and having a slight doubt, and I'm not doing any spoilers. This book is well worth a read, thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC.
