Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A quirky, moving, philosophical little novel - I thoroughly recommend this as a wonderful antidote (in novel form) to the stress and frantic pace of modern life.

I really, REALLY loved this. I often shy away from books centred around older men (I don't know why, perhaps I need a therapist too like Agatha :) ) but this really made my heart soar. I loved the author's writing style; I found the descriptions so rich but spare that I was always left wanting a little more. I thought the characters were drawn really sensitively and thoughtfully and although I didn't find that much "happened" in the book, I was happy to just immerse myself in their minds. Really enjoyed it. will be looking forward to what Anne Cathrine Bomann does next!

This novella tells the story of a psychiatrist winding up his practice as he approaches retirement. As he does so he reflects on his life, career and missed opportunities. As he encounters a new female client in his last few months talking through her problems helps him realise what life still has to offer and how important interaction with others is.
A quick read which I really enjoyed which just like the the main character makes you reflect on your own life.

Thank you netalley and the publishers for a free copy in return for an honest review.

A quick to read novella, following the lead up to retirement of an elderly psychiatrist, who is literally counting down the number of sessions he has left until his last day.

However, a number of relatively small events – his secretary being unavailable for a few weeks, taking on a new patient who he feels an affinity with – start him questioning what he’s doing and what his future plans really are.

I enjoyed this – took about an hour to read, calming and reflective.

This is going to be one of those books I talk about a lot.
About how I very much liked it,but can't say why.
Maybe I identified with the main character, counting down the days to something...
Those little interactions outside of his work made him all the more human, and were definitely the high point of the read for me.
Putting it on list of books to buy for friends right this minute.

This book had so much depth and human emotion embedded in it. I loved the writing, although it was a bit on the slow side. I think it fit the plot and what the writer wanted to do.
I will definitely be looking out for other books from Bomann.

Thanks a lot to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.
