A murder on a wedding reception night on an island with many twists and turns.

You meet any characters whose stories all done together throughout the book. We have Jules getting married to Will and their family and friends throughout each of the chapters. Each of the chapters go between present and past so that we learn how the events slowly lead up to the murder event and how everyone’s stories link to this person.

I really enjoyed this book and I was kept guessing who the victim was and I enjoyed how everything comes together in the end. So many people were affected by one persons actions and you can see how everyone gathering on an island was never going to end well with the tensions.

DNF - over the last few months, I've found myself enjoying books of the thriller genre less and less, which likely is all to do with my tastes shifting, rather than the books themselves being "bad". This is one that has been hyped a LOT both on the internet and in person, and so I'm sure if you're a fan of the genre, you will enjoy this!!

A slow burner of a thriller told in chapters of the main guests at the wedding of Jules and Will . Easy read and the second half the pace increases a lot . Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for my copy

I could not have ended 2019 with a better book.

I loved The Hunting Party, and I was a bit worried upon discovering that The Guest List is essentially the same format. I didn't want the same book twice. I was a fool to think that Foley would do that to me.

Better than The Hunting Party, I devoured this book. As far as I'm concerned, Lucy Foley can use whatever format she wants because she absolutely nails it every time. I've not stopped thinking about The Hunting Party since I read it, and have just wanted to read it for the first time again and again. The Guest List has more than satisfied that desire. I just hope it's not too long before she publishes her next book.

really gripping and suspenseful! Has similarities to And Then There Were None, but I much preferred this as it was easier to follow and the characters stood out well. Didn't see the ending coming! I usually struggle with thrillers but I very much liked this!

This book was the first that I've read by Lucy Foley and it definitely won't be the last.

As a huge fan of Agatha Christie, and And Then There Were None in particular, this book excited me from the moment I read the synopsis. And it truly did not disappoint.

At first, I did find this book a little difficult to get into, but I understand the need to have a slow couple of chapters to introduce all of the main players.
After those first few chapters, the pace of the story picked up and was perfect, and with every twist and turn, I was on tenterhooks as to what would be revealed next.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for my copy.

I read this as the storms raged outside; a very fitting environment, as the novel is full of wild winds and rain too. This author really knows how to transport her readers to the wildest of location. Whilst The Hunting Party was set in the highlands of Scotland, The Guest List takes place on an remote island off the coast of Ireland. The perfect setting for murder and intrigue.

The wedding of online journalist Jules Keegan and TV celebrity Will Slater is an intimate, if showy affair. Just thirteen guests will actually stay on the island with them, along with the staff of the newly renovated wedding venue. Other guests will arrive, and depart, but these chosen few are the entitled, special guests.

The author tells the story in various voices; the bride, groom, bridesmaid, best man, plus one, and the wedding planner. Each one of these voices are distinctive, and each one could be a murderer ... or could they be the victim?

The reader is unaware, until almost the end of the story who dies, but we know, right from the beginning that there's a body. We are taken on a bumpy journey that takes us back many years, and brings us right up to the present day. We learn more than we could ever have imagined about the characters and we are thrown red herring after red herring as the plot thickens and the pace increases.

Lucy Foley doesn't paint a great picture of a bunch of ex-public schoolboys. It could be a tad stereotypical; there's a lot of braying, and puffing out of chests. There's drugs and lots of drinking games, there's also a lot of secrets and repressed anger. There's frustration and jealousy and there's revenge plotted. They may not be nice characters, in fact I think they are awful, but they are fascinating and compelling and I was totally engrossed by their behaviours.

I enjoyed every single page of The Guest List; there are a couple of coincidences that neaten the plot, and the motive, but I really didn't mind. As the chapters towards the end get shorter and snappier, I turned the pages so quickly that I almost gave myself whiplash.

I loved it; great (awful) characters with some mind-bending twists and reveals. A real treat.

This was a three star read for me.
Good Points: Some unlikable characters, but in a good way, a fast moving plot and pace with some good descriptive enough writing. The description of the island and house were well done.and I did find the characters easy to picture.
Not so good points: The choice of location was somewhat unbelievable. It's clear description of wet, boggy terrain, bad weather and inaccessibility made it an unlikely choice for a wedding no matter how much discount. There was some repetitiveness in the middle part and I could see the ending coming.
All in all a 3 star read

Having read Lucy Foley's other book, I was eager to read this one! It was absolutely brilliant - I couldn't put this book down. It was just as gripping as her first and I was shocked at the end. I didn't expect it to have that turn of events. I loved the fact it was on a remote island and the only suspects were the people actually on that island. It had a Agatha Christie style suspense in where you just couldn't pick out who had done what. Would recommend this to everyone to read.

I enjoyed the change of narrative voice each chapter and the non-linear timeline. Johnno was an excellent character but I found it odd in this day and age that he didn't have direct email contact with Piers. It was a bit of a stretch to have so many people intimately involved with Will; his relationship with Olivia, in particular, seemed unlikely. Good twist at the end.

Having loved the authors previous book, I was really excited to get to this one and it did not disappoint! There were some plot twists that I figured out early on in the book, however the main twist was one I did not anticipate and took me by surprise. Once I had picked this up, I had to keep going and read it in one sitting with copious amounts of caffeine.

A solid four star read. Great premise. Well written. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing. Would definitely read her next novel. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

The Guest List by Lucy Foley

I'm a big fan of Lucy Foley's books but this one wasn't for me, largely because I just couldn't get on with these characters and didn't like spending time with them. I also found myself getting a bit confused with there being too many character perspectives, each with their own axe to grind. But, as usual with Foley's books, the atmosphere and setting are excellent, and I did like the premise.

Gloriously gory and atmospheric.- I loved the change of perspectives between characters and it kept me on my toes right until the end. There was always another plot twist, and I loved that - although sometimes they were slightly unlikely and stretched the limits of real life... still, never saw the end coming.

Thrillers aren't usually my kind of book, but if I see a thriller by Lucy Foley it's going on my auto read pile! Definitely recommend: a quick, dark and intriguing tale of secrets, the forgotten past rearing up, and people beneath their veils.

This is the second of Lucy Foley’s novels I have read and like The Hunting Party this did not disappoint. A modern day whodunnit set on a bleak island off the coast of Ireland, Foley provides an array of characters, all of which could be the perpetrator. What I liked in particular, was not knowing who the victim was either until near the end of the book, which just made this a complete page turner from start to finish.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Foley just gets better and better! The Guest List is a gripping, tense, glamorous murder mystery that I genuinely could not put down. If you liked The Hunting Party, you'll love this one. The writing is captivating, the scene is beautifully set, and each of the characters have distinctive voices that add to the fast-paced narrative. Thanks to HarperFiction and the publisher for the ARC!

I read this book a while ago, but somehow forgot to review it?! After really enjoying Foley's 'The Hunting Party' I was very excited to read her new book, The Guest List, and it didn't disappoint! Intriguing characters (and how dos she keep track of them?! I am in awe of her ability to write so many so well..!), and interesting setting. I was hooked until the end. Definitely recommend!

I read this in two days and really enjoyed it. Agatha Christie-like in set up and execution, the plot unfurls as we move between the characters and discover their back stories, and builds inexorably to its murderous conclusion, with all the threads nicely tied up at the end. I will definitely be looking for other books by Lucy Foley to add to my reading pile.

Seeing as this just won the Thriller category in the Goodreads Choice Awards, I have a feeling that my dislike for this book is an unpopular opinion!

On an island off the windswept Irish coast, guests gather for the wedding of the year - the marriage of the golden celebrity couple Jules Keegan and Will Slater.
The wedding cake has barely been cut when one of the guests is found dead. Old friends, past grudges, happy families, and hidden jealousies. Everyone has a secret. Everyone has a motive. One guest won't be leaving this wedding alive..

If you have read The Hunting Party (also by this author) then you have basically also read this book. The plots are almost carbon copies of each other and they are both so so predictable. I had called each twist before they actually happened and the whole thing ended up being pretty boring if I'm honest. Also, all of the characters were just super shitty rich people that absolutely no substance to them. I didn't care about those sort of characters in The Hunting Party, and I really didn't care for them in The Guest List either. However, I have to admit that Foley sure knows how to set the scene. The descriptions of this remote rugged island were absolutely fantastic. So much so that I felt as if I could actually picture the feel of coastal winds and saltiness of this rugged landscape.

I'll admit that I really didn't enjoy this book. Yes, it was easy to read, but I found it to be incredibly predictable with some really dull characters.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

The Guest List by Lucy Foley.

* And then the lights went out *
Wills and Jules are the perfect couple, right? Money, high flying careers, love and lust..what could go wrong? With a wedding booked on a remote Scottish Island and VIP guests, their wedding is bound to be an intimate affair. Intimate affair does not even begin to cover it. Wills seems to have a intimate past and a complicated present with one too many guests which is revealed in the latter stage of the book.

Short and snappy chapters towards the end creates tension. And then the lights went out. Content trigger warnings include bullying, death and potential ghostly creatures. My first novel I have read by Lucy Foley. A good read before turning the lights off at night.
