The Guest List was a good mystery novel. The plot was good and I moved through the pages quickly. At time I did get a little confused as there a many characters to keep up with but overall I enjoyed the read.

I agree with other reviews, this author reminds me of Agatha Christie.
A modern day Whodunnit.
Multiple well faceted characters, any one of whom could be the murderer. Plenty to keep you guessing.
A chilling mystery that makes you want to keep reading.
I've finished this and moved straight on to this authors other book.
I'm looking forward to more from Lucy Foley

I greatly enjoyed The Hunting Party, Lucy Foley’s best selling debut crime mystery and this follow up is just as good.
It’s a very similar set-up, with a gathering of suspects at a wedding reception on a deserted island off the coast of Ireland, instead of an adventure holiday at a remote Scottish hunting lodge.
Once again, we are kept in the dark about the identity of the victim as well as the perpetrator until the very end, and the back stories of the guests serve to misdirect our suspicions, along with the usual red herrings.
My only quibble is that there are too many unlikely coincidences, but this aside, I reckon Foley has written another winner.

A wedding, a bully, a murder and lots of drink all go to create a good suspense on a wonderful island out to the Wild West of Ireland. The book is great storytelling and keeps the reader on their toes.
Enjoyed it many thanks.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Anyone should has ever felt out of place at a wedding will empathise with Hannah, the plus one, and Olivia, the single sister bridesmaid. The book has a good sense of place, on a lonely, wind swept island, with its own ghosts, and a good set of characters. It is impossible to know not only who did it, but who was murdered until the end. A great book.

On a remote island off the coast of Ireland, guests are gathering to celebrate Julia and Wills wedding. The groom Will is handsome, charming and a rising tv star. The bride Jules is smart, ambitious and a magazine publisher. They are the golden couple that everyone envy’s. Perfection is for plans though, and as the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to surface with the reminiscence and well wishes.
Then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? and more importantly why?
I really enjoyed reading this, it is told from several characters points of view, and leads us right up to the wedding day and night. As we read we learn about each character and their pasts too and the way it is written they could have all been guilty.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher HarperCollinsUK for an ARC of this brilliant book in exchange for my honest review.

My thanks to Lucy Foley, Harper Collins and NetGalley for the ARC of The Guest List.
Gosh, was there ever a wedding like this? Superbly taut with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. What a surprise at the end. And about three quarters of the way through a real gasp moment. I just didn't see it coming. Brilliant, dark, tense writing with believable characterisation. 5 super shiny stars!

My first Lucy Foley foray, and what a treat! I might just need to get my hands on The Hunting Party too. I'd say we may well have discovered Agatha Christie for the Roaring Twenties v2.0.

A page turning thriller once the scene's been set in the first half of the novel. Lucy writes in a fascinating style, jumping between characters and timelines, and she's awfully clever with bringing those characters to life; her eloquent prose encapsulates the very being of each actor in this thriller, and through their voices you can envisage exactly who they are, what they look like, the depth (or not) of their personality.

Like a classic Agatha Christie, there are hints that unfold the closer you get to the climax, and there are elements you'll guess, and others that will come as a surprise, and this very style will keep you intrigued and spellbound until the final page.

My thanks to the Publishers via NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review. I was more than happy to give this 4 stars or 8/10.

Lucy Foley is quick becoming an Author that I enjoy to read. Her stories draw you in and are similar in many ways to the Agatha Christie whodunits of years ago, in so much as the reader is taken on a journey with the characters and fed many red herrings and suspects along the way. The reader can't help, but suspect everyone at the same time.

We are whisked away to a remote island off the coast of Ireland for a wedding. As the wedding party and the guests assemble on the island everything seems to be well with the world until, a body turns up dead and the victim is known to them all. Why is there a dead body and more importantly who killed the person no longer alive?

This story jumps around a lot from the present to the past and back again. It is told from the perspective of multiple characters and I enjoyed this as it all added to the tension and mystery. As the story develops we find out about the relationships and secrets between the main characters, everyone of them is flawed and has a past that links them together in one way or another.

Grab a copy for yourself and settle back for a few hours, in order to find out what happens.

'And then the lights go out.'

This book is fantastic, I enjoyed it more than her last one. It was like watching an episode of Fantasy Island (only 70's and 80's kids will know what I mean) where you're trying to work out who the culprit is. I changed my mind several times as to whodunnit because there were so many twists and turns. Who would of thought a wedding on a desolate island would turn into a murder mystery 🤔 which one of the guests has a hidden agenda? Is it just the guests who have an agenda? All will be revealed when you go and buy this book, because it's a fabulous read.

Having read and enjoyed the hunting Party I was excited to read this next book, and it certainly didnt disappoint.
Guests gather on a remote island in the middle of the Irish sea for the wedding of jules and Will, the seemingly perfect couple. All their loved ones are in attendance to witness the marriage, happy for them.... or are they?
The hosts of the wedding work tirelessly to ensure the wedding goes without a hitch, but they cannot control the weather and the storm that gathers is relentless......
and then the lights go out.......
I dont like giving reviews with spoilers, so I'll leave it there but I will tell you that this book is an absolute Corker. The eerie setting, the array of complex characters, the secrets and the mystery of the island all make up an unputdownable read. Think Agatha Christie with a modern twist. This book is even better than the Hunting Party and I'm eagerly awaiting her next book, brilliant.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. It started out good, then i found it a little draining. lots of characters and different stories trying to be tied together. Geez did anyone like the groom? Did not guess the killer though so that was a nice twist. Lots of secrets coming out in this book....

A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly. The Bride is a successful magazine publisher, while the groom is the rising star of a popular TV show. They seem like the perfect couple. Every detail of their Big Day has been expertly planned, from the designer wedding dress to the remote location on a small windswept island off the Irish coast.
However, as the festivities begin, secrets from the past are revealed. A storm is raging outside, someone turns up dead, and it doesn't look like an accident...

What follows is a "whodunnit" mystery, where you won't find out who has been murdered, or who the murderer is, until the end of the book. The story flicks back and forth between the wedding night and the run-up to the Big Day. It's told from various perspectives, including The bride, The bridesmaid, The best man, The plus one, and The wedding planner.

I thought the story was a little slow to get started, but I enjoyed it overall. There were a couple of interesting twists towards the end which I didn't see coming until right at the last moment. I also thought the setting was perfect. There's something quite eerie about a remote island in the middle of the sea. I could picture it really well and it added to the suspense and mystery.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having loved Lucy Foley's previous novel The Hunting Party, I approached The Guest List with a little trepidation for fear that she would be unable to repeat the standard. I need not have worried--this is even better! The premise is similar--a group of friends brought together in celebration with an unwanted and unexpected outcome. Here the occasion is a wedding and the setting is an isolated small island off the coast of Ireland. A number of the guests have secrets which will emerge in the course of a dramatic weekend, and this is a jaw-dropping and superb read. I look forward to where she goes next.

I absolutely loved this book! It was fantastic and kept me hooked from start to finish. I honestly can’t put into words how good it was and I already know it is going to be one of my top books this year as it’ll be hard to beat. Will definitely be buying this authors other book

‘The Guest List’ by Lucy Foley owes a little to Agatha Christie’s ‘And Then There Were None’ just as her first thriller ‘The Hunting Party’ does, and these are not the only similarities between her two latest novels. However, that said, those who enjoyed the latter will love her latest offering and those who haven’t read it will enjoy ‘The Guest List’ for the way in which she skilfully allows us to understand her characters’ motives, fears and secrets whilst keeping us on tenterhooks, trying to guess who’s done what, when and why.
‘The Guest List’ is set on an inhospitable island off the Connemara coast. Everything happens over twenty-four hours but Foley takes us back to some of the characters’ childhoods so that we can appreciate why they are the troubled, damaged adults that hide behind the façade of success. The couple, Will and Jules, whose wedding is to be celebrated on the island, are far from the perfect pair image that they project and their closest friends also carry some very heavy baggage. Even the efficient, welcoming and discreet wedding planner, Aoife, and her husband live with a terrible loss.
In order to enjoy this story, the reader really must suspend all disbelief. There are a great many coincidences necessary to bind the plot together and a few too many Gothic moments out on the rain-swept, stormy island. However, Foley certainly does manage to keep us engaged and entertained through her multiple narratives and portrayal of her characters: the vile, puerile public school boy-men; the narcissistic bride; the exhausted young mother. I would have liked even more character development. Is there a lesson to be learnt at the end of the tale? Yes! Don’t send young children off to boarding school! But maybe things have changed for the better since Will, Johnno et al were abandoned.
My thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollinsPublishers Ltd for a copy of this novel in exchange for a fair review.

This book pulled me in from the first page. The writing was descriptive and the storyline was instantly interesting.

I won't spoil too much but just imagine a wedding where everyone has an axe to grind. And read it.

The wedding of an internet entrepreneur to a tv star is due to take place on an almost uninhabited island off the Irish coast. The guests are a mix of those who have known each other for a very long time and others who are just now meeting the wedding party for the first time. The only way to arrive or leave is by boat, the weather is foul, the power keeps failing and there's very little phone reception, what could possibly go wrong?

Lucy Foley has an original way of writing which gives her stories a certain something extra. You know someone is dead, you know it's probably not from natural causes, but you don't know who it is. The story, told from various viewpoints, begins with a death but then turns the clock back and you travel through all the key points with the major players as you head towards the denouement. As the victim is nameless you know one of these points of view is from the person who won't leave the island alive while both they and everyone else has good reason, by the end, to be the killer, all of which definitely ups the ante just a tad!

This is the second of this author's books I have read and enjoyed enormously. The characterisation, the storyline, the location were all brilliantly done and there was a gradual increase of anticipation and tension which didn't once let up. The only reason this didn't get the same 5 star rating as the first book is that there was, for me, one coincidental happening too many. This book would have worked just as well without it, especially as there were already no shortage of reasons to kill or be killed, available as well as potential victims and murderers to consider.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a slightly different set up to their murder mysteries or has read this author's work before. In both cases you won't be disappointed.

"As a wedding planner you can't afford to miss anything. You have to be alert to every detail, all the smaller eddies beneath the surface. If I didn't pay attention, one of those currents could grow into a huge riptide, destroying all my careful planning. And here's another thing I've learned - sometimes the smallest currents are the strongest."

Jules is the beautiful, showy and determined founder of The Download a digital magazine. She is marrying handsome and charming Will, reality TV star of 'Survive The Night'. Jules hires wedding planner Aoife and husband, chef Freddie, who have bought a small island, Inis an Amplora, or Cormorant Island. Several miles off the Connemara coastline it is remote, beautiful but wild.

Wedding guests include Jules' family - her vulnerable stepsister Olivia, self-centred mother and four-times remarried, uninvolved father, and his latest, young wife; and Jules' best friend, Charlie and his wife Hannah, the plus one. For Will his guests are mainly those he went to a private boys' school with, including so-called best mate Johnno who never felt he fitted in, and other privileged and arrogant men.

It is a powder keg, with a number of unhappy characters with axes to grind. Will and Jules look so perfect but are they? There a number of narratives from different characters, who are identified by name and role, split before and after the murder that takes place. It isn't revealed who has been killed until near the end, but as the plot develops it is clear a number of the characters have reason to hate and seek revenge. I loved the characters, who despite their issues felt full-rounded; I loved the spooky and isolated location; I loved the pace and; I loved the short chapters with sharp turns that kept me hooked. Just like The Hunting Party, this is a thoroughly enjoyable, well-written thriller, worth reading when it's published next month. Atmospheric, dark and gripping.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this arc. I loved The Hunting Party, so was eagerly excited for this and what a cracker this was. This follows a whole host of characters who are on an island, near Ireland, for the wedding of Jules and Ben, a minor celebrity as a result of being the star of a reality show. You’ve got Jules’s troubled younger sister, Olivia, and the wife of her best friend, Hannah, as well as Ben’s childhood best mate, Johnno, and Aoife, the wedding planner.
Past and presents secrets are exposed, personalities clash and tensions boil in this pacy gripping read. I couldn’t put this down. My only gripe is I felt the ending was too abrupt and wanted to see the aftermath of the rest of the characters. It’s 4.5/5
