spoiler alert ** 3.5 stars

This was cleverly done, multiple authors, multiple narrator's,yet it never felt disjointed. All very seem less.
To be honest not a huge amount happened in the first part of this book, just references to past bullying, and a new girl that's a bit odd.
But all the mother's narration and their basic distrust of each other makes it feel like a lot.
I felt it lost its momentum slightly towards the end, once we knew who Imogen was.
Clearly I preferred wondering what was going on,to actually knowing,as then the rest was fairly easy to guess.
Very nicely done though.

I’m a fan of all these authors so I was really excited to jump into The Understudy, I made sure I waited for a lazy day to read, cuddled up on the sofa with my cat and a cup of tea and started reading...and was quickly left disappointed. The characters are bitchy, harsh and you wouldn’t want to meet any of them. The writing is obviously good but there’s not enough storyline to keep a reader interested.

Maybe I just went into The Understudy with expectations that were too high but this was not a story I enjoyed.

As a fan of these authors I was looking forward to reading this book, unfortunately it failed to live up to the expectations I had. Although well written, and cleverly told from the perspectives of 4 women, the story itself wasn’t particularly interesting, and at times it was quite far fetched.

I was so excited to receive this ARC as I love all of these authors and thought this would be fantastic but I was a little disappointed by this. Firstly I didn’t like any of the characters and found the story tedious and a little unbelievable at times. Did not finish this. Sorry

I really enjoyed this book, and couldn't put it down. The story is clever, and the characters are brilliant, with well-written, witty dialogue. No-one is what they seem, and although the ending wasn't a complete surprise, it was satisfying and well-plotted. A triumph for the authors.

I thought that the main storyline was very well thought out. I could not warm to any the characters. I found them too bitchy and over the top.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.

I really enjoy B.A. Paris and Clare Mackintosh books and had high hopes for this book.
The story is about a group of teenage girls who are at drama school and their mothers who will do anything for their daughters.
I just could not get into this story at all. I could not relate to the characters who were all very unpleasant and the bad language also put me off this story.
Thank you to NetGalley Hodder & Stoughton and for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

DNF - I didn't even make it to the end of chapter two. These women... perhaps it was the tone of voice or their assumptions of each other about working too hard or not hard enough... that sort of thing. Not for me.
