This is my first book by the author and it initially appealed to me because the plot sounded awesome!

I know there is an argument that psychological thrillers dont need in depth characters but I do believe they need some depth, for me this was the biggest issue when reading this book, it felt like a one dimensional sketch.

The page count is low therefore some meat could be put on these bones without it turning into a beast of a book, the ideas are brilliant but the execution is half hearted and it's so repetitive I found my mind drifting a fair bit.

However it is a total no effort short readable thriller so if that's your bag, this is your book.

2 stars from me.

Why is Shalini Boland not a household name? This is the 4th 5-star book from her that I have read and she is AMAZING!!! Mind-blowing plotlines and endings you never see coming! This one is no different! Is Bella Rachel's missing Holly? Yes, I had a few questions about the in between the abduction and now times, but that still did not take away from a GREAT read!!

A big THANK YOU to #NetGalley and @bookouture for this ARC!

I think a new word needs to be invented when reading Shalini Boland books because she shocks every time. There is always a sentence that makes you gasp or have a sudden inhalation in shock. You then have to reread it to check you have truly understood the twist the story has taken.
The other daughter is no exception. Rachel’s daughter is taken from the mall and nine years later there is no sign of her. Rachel meets a new parent, Kate at the school gates and when she sees Kates daughter Bella she is convinced it’s her missing daughter. Rachel is then determined to prove that Bella is her missing daughter even if this risks her family.
A fantastic read and I can’t wait for the next book.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy of "The Other Daughter" By Shalini Boland.

Having previously read and enjoyed The Marriage Betrayal by this author I was excited to see another Physcological Thriller so quickly.

Nine years ago her daughter was taken. And now she’s back.

Two-and-a-half-year-old Holly is playing happily in a pink plastic playhouse, while her mother Rachel sips coffee and chats with a friend nearby. It should be an ordinary day for all of them. But, in the blink of an eye, it turns into every family’s worst nightmare.

Holly is taken by a stranger and never found.

Nine years later, Rachel is living a quiet life in Dorset. She’s tried to keep things together since the traumatic day when she lost her eldest daughter. She has a new family, a loving partner and her secrets are locked away in her painful past.

Until one afternoon when Rachel meets a new school parent Kate and her teenage daughter Bella. Rachel’s world is instantly turned upside down – she’s seen Bella before. She’d recognise that face anywhere – it’s her missing child.

And she will stop at nothing to get her back…

This had me gripped just from reading the blurb, so I was in for a treat when I finally started reading! I will start with note I had originally written at the start of the book!

Catriona. The name is too much of a mouthful to have to keep being repeated for a storyline, this irritated me highly throughout the storyline, but thankfully not as much as I first thought!

In theory, the story of her now partner not knowing she previously had an abducted daughter 9 years ago wouldn't ring true. It would of been everywhere and they'd know who she was or at least of heard of the abduction. And in the years to follow did she not look for her daughter? Have any contact with authorities about her missing daughter?! Also when she got pregnant with her son it would of been in her history that she'd previously had 2 children. It's all just a bit messy!

I will leave those notes there as they are..... Not making any sense because I don't want to give away anything from this storyline and also do not want to correct my notes! All will become clear once reading this novel!!!.

The other daughter had me hooked none the less, the storyline is VERY GOOD, it will have you on the edge of your seat, you may see the plot twist ahead of it happening (as I thought maybe might happen), but none the less it wasn't rushed and ended for a very gripping read!

I would recommend this book. 5stars from me!

I am always excited to read a new book by Shalini Boland. She has increasingly become a favorite for her stories, plots, writing ability and her undeniable way to spin a great story. The Other Daughter is soooo good! We are grabbed in the Prologue and the first chapter promises an excellent story. A quick read full of great writing and intrigue. Fantastic!

Many thanks to Net Galley, Bookouture and Shalini Boland for the ARC of The Other Daughter.

I did actually delay reading this coz was just not in a frame of a mind to start with yet another child abduction story but once I began, kept banging my head over the delay.

The Other Daughter is a brilliant and convoluted thriller. The story begins with Catriona caked with mud walking off with a child that's not hers from a shopping mall play area. The other segment of the story shows us Rachel who is in a happy relationship with Mark and 2 children who is yet to divulge the loss of her elder daughter Holly to her family. During a school run she befriends a new mom Kate whose elder daughter Bella resembles Holly and thus begins the twisty and crazy tale. Rachel is convinced that Bella is Holly and is determined to do whatever it takes to win her back, her actions becoming more and more crazier by the day.

Shalini Boland has written a fantastic thriller that makes the reader believe a particular scenario and at the end throws every thing out of the window. This had such a jaw-dropping twist that had me going "oh my".

Highly recommended.

The Other Daughter is the sixth psychological thriller I’ve read by Shalini Boland so that alone should tell you I really enjoy her writing. I am at the point now after all previous four or five star stories that I don’t even bother reading the blurb and just grab away when I see her name and here we are yet again with another winner!

This book features a mother who had gone through one of the most devastating things that could happen to a parent. Nine years earlier Rachel had gone out with a friend to a local mall where the ladies chatted while Rachel’s toddler played. In just a few short moments of not paying attention Rachel’s daughter completely vanished.

Now, nine years later, Rachel has patched herself together as good as she can but not a day has gone by she hasn’t thought of her missing daughter. One day while picking up her two younger children from school Rachel meets a new mother at the school who had just moved to town with her husband and three children. When Rachel takes one look at the oldest daughter she loses her breathe from how much the girl resembles her missing Holly.

Seeing that this has become one of my auto-read authors I wasn’t at all surprised when I quickly became engrossed in this story. As soon as I was drawn in and learned all the details of the book my mind began to spin with possible outcomes never trusting anyone or anything because I just know Ms. Boland will have some amazing twists coming. Did all my debating and detectiving work and I get anywhere close?? Heck no! Another no way I would see that one coming made it worth the lack of sleep this page turner caused.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

This is about the third book I have read by this author. I absolutely love her books. This book, The Other Daughter is a true psychological domestic thriller which was filled with suspense and twists and turns. I thought I had it figured out about one third of reading the book but I never saw the twist ending coming. For me, a lover of psychological thrillers that is what makes this genre of books fantastic. Rachel, is a mother, that tells her story of how her oldest daughter was taken or abducted when the child Holly was about 2 and half years old. She was devastated. Moved away with her infant daughter and is now living with her boyfriend and have a son together. Matt is her boyfriend and biological father to her son. She never told him about the abduction till one day a new family moves to where she lives. She sees this family’s older daughter and is positive that this is her abducted daughter. She proceeds to tell Matt what happened to her years ago. There is another POV from a women who kidnapped a child. I do not want to give away any spoilers so all I will say if you love this genre of books, then you should read this book. Absolutely fantastic with a end I never saw coming. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I received this book from net galley as an ARC for an honest review. I want to thank net galley and the publisher book couture for this ARC.

Many thanks to Bookouture and Shalini Boland for the opportunity to read and review this book. The Other Daughter was a fascinating read Based around the topic of child abduction this book will keep you hooked till the end. Rachel has spent years wondering what happened to her daughter Holly only to find her living near by with another family. What can she do to get her back where she belongs.

This intriguing story that kept me glued to the pages, eager to see how things would unravel. The event that set everything in motion is truly horrific, and the author sets up the mystery right at the beginning. Who is this awful, deluded woman who doesn’t seem to realise the enormity of what she’s done? The suspense continues throughout the book.
Rachel’s child was stolen from a playground many years ago, a fact she keeps hidden from her new boyfriend, the kind Matt. Then Rachel meets a new school parent Kate and her teenage daughter Bella, who Rachel recognises immediately as her missing child.
Rachel eventually shares her secret with Matt, who’s lovely and thoughtful. By contrast, Rachel’s actions are really a bit risky as she desperately tries to find out if Bella really is her missing daughter (although to be honest they are probably totally understandable given her situation). And what about Kate? Did she really steal Rachel’s baby all those years ago? Her reaction to some of Rachel’s actions are totally understandable if she’s innocent – or if she’s guilty!
Shalini Boland tells a great story that moves along effortlessly and certainly had me unable to put it down.

This is my first book by Shalini and it is not going to be my last. It is such a gripping book that I nearly read it in one go.. if only it wasnt for real life getting in the way!

The Other Daughter is astoundingly clever and thought out. The way it grabs a hold of you and doesnt let you go is amazing. It's just what you would want from a psychological thriller and more. I never ever saw that twist coming.

I am excited to read alot more by this author in the future and will always watch out for her books.

This is the second novel I’ve read by Ms. Boland. The book starts in the past, with a kidnapping of a young girl at a shopping center. We are introduced to Rachel, mother of the abducted girl, and then newcomer Kate. The women meet at their children’s school, as they are mothers to children around the same ages, and they develop a fast friendship. Kate’s daughter looks exactly like Rachel’s abducted child. The story goes on from there with lots of twists and turns and a very unexpected ending.

This is a high speed train ride of a story and the derailment (and you will be derailed) is unexpected and full of emotional impact.

I loved the characters, they all felt very real, the decisions they made were natural and understandable.

The plot is really good - it takes a familiar situation and plays it from a different angle.

The pacing is bang on - it keeps you reading "just one more chapter".

I also loved how all the questions I was asking in my head were anticipated and answered.

Overall an excellent thriller.

All I can say is WOW!! Very clever writing by a very clever author!
This is the 1st book I'm reading by this author and three quarters through I thought very good writing but storyline a bit iffy and not always believable......WELL.....was I wrong!

The Past
"She’s inside a nightmare. She’s inside hell. And nothing will ever be the same again."
Catriona Devon ends up in a shopping mall in London. Here she sees a young girl playing by herself while her mom sits nearby chatting to a friend and without even thinking it through she takes the child home with her.

The Present
Rachel Farnborough is waiting at school to pick her children up when she meets Kate Morris, a new mom whose youngest kids are the same ages as her two. Then she sees Kate's oldest daughter and her life comes to an abrupt standstill because the girl is the spitting image of her missing daughter Holly who disappeared 9 years before. She hasn't told anyone about Holly. Not even her boyfriend that's she's been with for years. Her life then slowly starts to unravel as she tries to find out the truth about her daughter.

There's a mind shattering twist in the end that will make you gasp! It is very easy and fast reading.
A must read for anyone who loves a good psychological thriller.
Thank you to @bookouture and @netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Other Daughter’ by Shalini Boland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Rachel is talking to her friend in a shopping mall when her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Holly is abducted from the play area. Nine years later Rachel is living in Dorset with partner Matt and children Jess and Charlie when outside the school gate she meets Kate who’s just moved to the area. When she sees Kate’s daughter Bella she can’t believe her eyes as Bella is the image of her missing daughter Holly, the same green eyes, heart-shaped face and colour of hair. How can Rachel find out if Bella is her missing daughter?
‘The Other Daughter’ had me gripped from the start with a story that alternates between the day of Holly’s abduction to the present time. It’s been well-written with a strong and chilling plot, twists and turns, believable characters, and a jaw-dropping conclusion that I didn’t see coming. My only complaint is that I found the end slightly confusing and had to keep reading parts to make sure I hadn’t misread them. Other than this, it’s a spine-chilling psychological thriller, tense, exciting and highly readable, that I can thoroughly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

What can I say about this book other than WOW! This was an absolutely fantastic book and had me hooked by page 1. I’m cautious of any spoilers, however, it is safe to say this a fast-paced, gripping, psychological thriller that I wished would not end. Characters were so well developed that I felt like I knew them myself. Nothing, however, prepared me for the completely amazing twist in this book. Never saw it coming. Safe to say this is one of my top 3 books this year. 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
