The concept of this book is really great. There's a mother whose child is stolen from her when she is young, and years later she sees a woman who has a daughter that looks exactly like hers that was stolen. Did this woman steal her child? How far will a mother go to find her daughter?
Unfortunately I just did not enjoy this book. Perhaps I read too many psychological thrillers, but this one just wasn't up to par. I appreciate the authors attempt to provide an exciting twist at the end but I just felt the book was rushed and the characters weren't properly built up. Maybe if the book was a bit longer and there were more detail around some of the characters I could have enjoyed it more.
The twist at the end is one that I typically would have loved. It really was a great idea and I was so impressed with how it came out of nowhere, and I really didn't expect it. However, it didn't make up for the rest of the novel and how underdeveloped the characters were. It just didn't work.

Although I didn't enjoy this one, I will for sure read another Shalini Boland because I have enjoyed hers in the past!

This was another interesting read from the author. Good mystery with a twist at the end. I do not like split/multiple personality stories since it makes explaining the story too easy. Since I found the ending too convoluted, I give the book a four- star rather than five-star rating.

I’m unexpectedly undecided about this book. The positives were that the quick narrative and constant switching between Catriona and Rachel’s POVs kept me interested and wanting to know what was going to happen next. The negative was that the actions taken by Rachel in trying to discover Bella were very unbelievable. I will say the twist was unexpected for me (I would still give this a read if you like a good twist) and the ending wrapped everything up with a neat little bow but it overall just wasn’t satisfying for me.

I received an advanced copy of this copy in exchange for honest feedback. Thanks to netgalley and bookouture.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of The Other Daughter!

Uhhhhh wow! I don’t even know where to begin with this book. From the very first chapter I was hooked! This book goes back and forth between the present, which allows you to see what mom, Rachel, is going through when she meets a new family in town and is convinced the eldest daughter, Bella, is her abducted toddler, Holly and the past, which shows how Catriona deals with the aftermath of kidnapping a toddler from a shopping centre. I kept reading faster and faster, thinking I knew how this book was going to end and started to feel a little disappointed it would be completely predictable. Boy was I wrong!!!!! I NEVER saw this ending coming and was so exciting for the super huge twist when all is revealed! I actually had to re-read the part where the shocker was revealed to make sure I understood what the heck I just read!!

For years, I’ve had Shalini Boland’s other books on my TBR shelf and am seriously considering holding off on everything to read them all ASAP!! Highly recommend!

Two year old Holly is abducted from a play area in a shopping centre while her mother Rachel is drinking coffee and chatting to her friend. Unfortunately she is never found. Fast forward nine years and Rachel sees a girl who she thinks is Holly. What extent will she go to to try to prove she is Holly?

As with all Shalini's books, it was a fast read with lots of red herrings to keep you guessing.

This will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers who love a twist.

I am a huge Shalini Boland fan so was delighted to read this one. A very twisty book with good characterisation and a killer hook - abducted child reappears after a number of years but how can her identity be proved?
I fairly raced through the pages eager to find out what was going on. However, I have to admit I was disappointed with the direction the story took. You had to suspend disbelief too much I think to buy into the twists as the story concluded. Just my opinion of course and I would certainly read more books by the author.

Twisted

What a story. This is the story about a three year old abducted from a playground. The story of the abduction and what happened after.

Just when you think you have it figured out and are rooting for Rachel to get her daughter that was abducted back the story takes a strange twist.

I was up until early hours of the morning finishing this book. I just could not put it down. It has been a page turner from the very first page.

It is an engaging story, kept me in suspense the whole time, and I can say that you will never guess what happens next.

If you want a suspenseful story that will keep you reading until the end this is the book for you. I recommend it.

Thanks to Bookouture, Shalini Boland, and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review and advanced copy of the book.

I'm a massive fan of Shalini Boland and I know that with every new book I'll be for a brilliant treat.

This fantastic new psychological mystery surpassed my expectations.
Shalini weaves from what seems to be a straight forward easy to figure out story an absolutely unpredictable massive shocker.

Here we have Rachel, when we meet her she is a happily married mother of two whose personal and professional life seem perfect. But as always nothing is what it seems, and Rachel had a painful secret from her past that she had never shared with anybody even her loving husband.

Years ago Rachel had a little daughter who was abducted when Rachel was busy with a conversation.
Now a new family arrived at the neighborhood and they had a daughter "Bella" who bears a striking resemblance to Rachel's missing daughter. Rachel's world started to unravel and she became obsessed with Bella and how to prove that her family are the kidnappers who stole her baby all those years ago.

The narrative alternates between the past and the present with Rachel as the predominant voice, but also in the past we meet another voice, that of a woman whose presence added more intensity and creepiness to an already engrossing plot.

What will happen, is Bella really Rachel's daughter? How Rachel's erratic behavior affects her little family? and who is this woman from the past and how does she fit into all of this? Read to find out how this exceptional story unfolds.

Thanks Netgalley, Bookouture, and Shalini Boland for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story of a child abduction from a busy London shopping centre. Catriona is distraught, muddy and in this emotional state she takes 2 year old girl while her mother is talking to a friend. Part of the story is told in the past from Catriona’s perspective. The other narrator of the story is Rachel Farnborough whose daughter Holly has been abducted several years Rachel meets Kate Morris whose elder daughter Bella bears a striking resemblance to Holly and so Rachel is determined to prove that this is indeed her missing daughter.

The book starts in an intriguing way and has me hooked! It’s easy to read and I enjoyed it although there is some repetition regarding Rachel’s desire to do whatever it takes to learn the truth. Message received! The characters are likeable in particular Rachel’s partner Matt who is so understanding and supportive even though Rachel must be testing his patience with her actions. Some of the things she does are somewhat crazy and ill thought out but who knows what lengths a person would go to in similar, unimaginable circumstances as child abduction is every parents nightmare.

I like the way that Rachel imagines a reunion with her daughter and what will happen to Kate if her suspicions prove to be correct. Her mind goes back and forth as the painful memories resurface and I feel the author captures the pain well and also her up and down emotions. I like the way the tension accelerates then is released and leaves you hanging and asking many questions. I most certainly did not see the ending coming and I like that as when it’s patently obvious a book can lose its allure.

Overall, an enjoyable, twisty read although a bit repetitive in places and so 4 stars rather than 5.

I’ve always been a fan of Shalini Boland and couldn’t wait to get stuck into her new book The Other Daughter.

Nine years ago, two and a half year old Holly was taken as her mother was chatting with friends. Now she’s back.

Nine years later, Rachel has a quiet life in Dorset with her boyfriend and two children. No one knows about her painful past but one afternoon, she meets Kate and her eldest daughter Bella. Rachel is adamant Bella is her missing daughter and will do whatever it takes to get her back.

This book is gripping, unputdownable and with some great twists.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

Wow, wow, wow Shalini Boland does it again. I just can’t get enough of her books. I’ve read many of her books and this one tops the cake. I can’t say enough good things about it. If you haven’t read her books yet you are definitely missing out in life.

This book was about a woman named Rachel trying to recover after the loss of her first daughter Holly. Holly went missing many years early but then Rachel sees a girl who looks just like her. Now the hunt is on to prove that girl she’s seen is her missing daughter. Rachel’s on a mission and no one is going to stop her until she finds out if her daughter is still alive.

I can’t say enough good things about this author and her books. All of her books take you on this rollercoaster ride that you never want to get off from. This is especially true about this one. I couldn’t get enough and didn’t want to sleep or eat until I found out who was lying and who was telling the truth. As each chapter went by you finally piece together what is really going on and boy is the ending a shock of all shockers. I couldn’t believe the twist that came. I never suspected it throughout the whole book. The ending made this book. I will shout to the moon and back on how great this book was.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

As usual from Shalini a fantastic story with a really good twist that I didn't see coming . But way too short , at just over 200 pages I felt a bit disappointed when I can to the end
Rachel , a mum with 2 kids carries an awful secret that she refuses to talk about , 9 years earlier when she was having coffee with a friend her young daughter was abducted . Now living in Dorset she is doing the school run and she sees a girl who she is convinced is her daughter , cue much sneaking around and investigating .Really easy to get in to and a fast paced , gripping read . Still 5 stars from me , even though I finished it in a couple of hours .

Two year old Holly is abducted from a play area in a shopping centre. Unfortunately she is never found.
Nine years later Rachel sees a girl that she thinks is Holly and will stop at nothing to prove that this girl is her daughter.
Rachel's behaviour becomes increasingly desperate and she begins to act more and more unhinged.
I found parts of this book unbelievable and I had suspected that there would be a twist in the story.

Whoa. I stayed up til 6am trying to finish this because it was so good!!! From the first page you will be pulled in!

Catriona has obviously just been through something traumatic when she abducts a woman named Rachel’s daughter from a shopping center. Years later, Rachel meets a new mom in town named Kate. When Rachel sees Kate’s daughter Bella, she immediately thinks that HAS to be her stolen child. You will go on this journey with Rachel aching for her to find out the truth and get her baby back somehow. This book had me tense as to what would happen next! And then as the end gets near, I was practically yelling at the book in shock and disbelief at the didn’t see that coming ending. Unbelievable. I can’t wait to read more from this author ASAP!!!!

The Other Daughter opens dramatically, with a distraught, clearly unhinged woman named Catriona abducting a two year old girl from a shopping centre. Several years later, a woman named Rachel meets a newcomer to her town, Kate, and comes to believe that Kate’s eldest daughter is her own missing child.

It sounded promising, but there were huge hurdles of disbelief which I really struggled to get past. To start with, I found it really hard to believe that nobody in Rachel’s current life, her long term boyfriend included, had ever made the connection with what would surely have been a huge news story - a two year old, abducted by a stranger from a shopping centre and never found, is never going to be “just local news”, and there would be a massive police investigation. Granted, there is an explanation for some of these anomalies later, but the explanation is even more far fetched.

It’s a fast easy read and I’ll admit I didn’t see the “big twist” coming, although it did stretch believability when it did, and there were things which didn’t make sense to me. It felt the whole thing was set up to deliver an extreme twist which the story had to tie itself up in knots to achieve.

The Other Daughter has a lot of rave reviews so it clearly hit the mark for a lot of people. It was entertaining enough but for me I’m afraid it was just too far fetched to be any more than an OK read.

It's the first time I read anything written by this author and I am sure it won't be the last one, because this book was just amazing.
Rachel has a good life - she has a loving boyfriend and two great children. She also has a secret - nine years ago her older daughter, Holly, was kidnapped and never found.
But now Rachel thinks that the oldest daughter of the new family who just moved in is her missing daughter. And she will do everything to find out the truth.
This book is just amazing. I just couldn't put it down. The writing is so good, characters so interesting, and the story has such a plot twist. It really suprised me at the end, but it all made sense.
I would highly recommended this book to everyone looking for a good thriller.

Wow a real psychological thriller with a complex twist that I never saw coming! In fact I had to re read a couple of pages to convince myself of what I was reading! Love a good twist that leaves me stunned and shell shocked at the same tine! This book certainly doesn’t disappoint and is hard to put down you just want to keep reading to see what’s going to happen next and it’s never what you expect!
A great cliff hanger of a book that explores a mother’s love, desperation and ultimately downward mental health spiral, taking you on a rollercoaster of emotions as the story unfolds but is totally relatable and realistic!
Thank you so much net galley for this early read I will recommend this book to all !
