Couldn’t finish. I think if you’re a fan of Jane Austen’s then you may enjoy this. But as much as I have tried several of her books, most recently being Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen is just not for me. I’m not fancy enough or something, but I just cannot get into her work for the life of me. This was no exception.

Jane Austen is, of course, well known for books such as Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility.  But...she also wrote several other novels including this one.  To me, Northanger Abbey is a bit different from Austen's other works.  It is her version of the Gothic tales that were popular during her own time.  In Austen's version, the protagonist, Catherine Morland, would like to be more exciting, more like a Gothic heroine.  What will happen when Catherine leaves home for the first time?  What will happen during her visit to Northanger Abbey?  It is well worth reading this classic to find out!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

A beautifully illustrated cover paired with the incredible writing of Austen = utterly divine. This is my first time reading "Northanger Abbey", and though initially I was not immediately attracted to the plot, this lovely cover drew me in to read it anyways.

This is the first Jane Austen I’ve read, and I was pleasantly surprised. I think it was a great novel to read for my first Jane Austen novel and I can’t wait to read some more Jane Austen novels. I really enjoyed the humor in the story and liked Austen’s take on societal norms, which I found really refreshing.

I think the new cover will really appeal to the younger audience and it’s a nice modern take on a classic novel.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with the E-Arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for providing me for a digital arc for my honest review.

Northanger Abby is one of my favorite Jane Austen novels. However, I thought ithis was going to be a graphic novel or perhaps it includes illustrations. I was wrong it's just a new edition with a new cover. I'm not going to lie the new cover is pretty nice, and fans who are interested in collecting different editions may be interested in bringing a copy back home.

I'm so in love with the new cover of Northanger Abbey. My first Austen novel was Pride and Prejudice, but I was excited to read more of her other novels. Northanger Abbey does not disappoint! Catherine is a really interesting character, and Jane Austen's humour and storytelling never fails to amaze me!

Northanger Abbey is one of my favourite Jane Austen's and this new edition does it justice. I absolutely love the cover and think the new edition will appeal to younger and new readers, which is a brilliant thing. Thanks so much for the chance to read and review.

I've never read any classic by Jane Austen but this was just so lovely. The cover is really pretty as well.

I thought that the reading style would be difficult to read, given English is not my mother tongue and this is a classic, but I was very wrong.

I'll definitely will be reading more of her in the future. Maybe I'll try Pride and Prejudice in the same edition?

This is Austen's 'Northanger Abbey' with a fancy new cover. I enjoyed re-reading the classic book and experiencing it again. The original story was unaltered when transferred to this book.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a reader in possession of a good taste, must be in want of more of Austen’s novels.” Especially after reading the one and only Pride and Prejudice. It is a novel that is not easily superseded. Published posthumously in 1817, this novel is the second Austen novel closest to perfection, though my heart is still settled on P&P.

A concoction mixed by one of the most talented and romantic authors of all times: only this time, it involves a lot of sarcasm, clever and bittersweet remarks of the early 19th century England.
Lo and behold for the only novel that can help get over the angst of finishing Pride and Prejudice for those craving for more.

The Austenesque genius and wit present itself most elegantly in Northanger Abbey. A story so special with ordinary figures and characters that it is impossible to get attached to one. Do not expect a protagonist like Elizabeth here, so smart and down-to-earth but the core value here is the naïvety of our beloved Catherine, whose folly annoyed me to death at times. Henry Tilney, our know-it-all hero, drawn to her like a moth drawn to fire and keeps cultivating her about the ways of society and cunningness of people. The Thorpes however tortured me until the end of the novel, I still cannot believe how much more anyone can take of them. Two things physically pained me in this novel: I wish Catherine were smarter and more sophisticated and less dull; and I wish that there were more interactions between her and Henry. Their conversations were too few and gave most pleasure, it’s a pity we did not hear more of him. However, a must-read for Austen lovers and definite re-read for first-timers.

Move over Pride and Prejudice, there's a new favorite in town!

Northanger Abbey has everything that you love Jane Austen novels for: great portrayal of the 19th century English socialites, a beautiful country setting, and heaps of tongue-in-cheek social commentary about marriage and social expectations. And then, it has so much more.
The story already starts off great, mocking the traditional set-ups of romance novels and breaking the 4th wall often. It is just page after page of Austen's brilliant humor and charming story-telling, wrapped up in a beautiful new edition.
(Also, a bookworm heroine, who gets carried away with her imagination in conjuring horror scenarios? Relatable!)

I've started reading classics recently, and I fall in love with this genre even more whenever I read a Jane Austen novel! 💜
This edition of Northanger Abbey is absolutely stunning. Kudos to the illustration team.
I loved Northanger Abbey's storyline. The way Jane Austen drew the life of 17 year old Catherine and the things she imagined along the way were really interesting. The writing was a bit on the complicated side, but I grew used to it eventually. I love how this book was filled with humor but presented a different side of viewing society norms.
Can't wait to read more of Jane Austen's works. ❤

My first time reading Northanger Abbey and what a delight it was! We follow Catherine Morland as she enters the society of Bath and hijinks ensue.

The Positives: This was the most overtly comical book by Austen that I have read, which I really enjoyed. It is a satire/pastiche on the Gothic romances prevalent in novels when Austen was writing and from the first lines, I had a smile on my face at the wry tone. The book is really self aware and comments on the value of novels as opposed to histories etc. which was very interesting. I also loved Mr. Tilney!

The Negatives: There were a couple of story threads that I felt were left a little bit unfinished and I thought that the ending was a little bit rushed.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a society romance with a comedic twist.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I was expecting it to be a graphic novel or perhaps it includes illustrations but no - it's just a new edition with a new cover. I'm not going to write a long review about Jane Austen's writing since, well, she's JANE AUSTEN. I'm been a hardcore fan ever since the first time I read Pride and Prejudice. So I'm just going to say that the cover is pretty nice, and fans who are interested in collecting different editions may be interested in bringing a copy back home.
