Reminiscent of Animal Farm and Watership Down, Pussycat Palace is the story of a community of feral cats. Events similar to those leading up to the 2016 election occur, and Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are clearly identifiable.

The political leanings of this title were a bit much for me; however, it's an engaging, clever story.

In the interest of full disclosure, I received a free digital copy of this title to review from Net Galley.

Princess Fuzzypants here: With shades of Animal Farm combined with political commentary about the 2016 Presidential Election in the US, this is the story of a cat colony in the midst of a campaign that will shape its future. There are shades of Nazi Germany as well. This is a book that makes you think and asks questions about many of the things that are rife in society today.
It is at its best when it is not heavy handed in its reflection of Donald Trump in candidate Ace. There is no subtlety and it detracts a bit from what is a strong and thought provoking tale. The subjects that the book explores are important current issues. I found myself impressed with some of the ideas in the book but did not like when I felt some of it felt like it was delivered with a sledge hammer rather than a softer more persuasive touch.
I did enjoy the adventures of Fyodor and his voyage of self discovery. Some of the best parts of the book were when he befriends Igor. It was Russian Blue meets Jack Russell and finds common ground. Would it not be wonderful if more species, like humans, could do the same.
I give kudos for trying to address relevant and divisive questions. I just wish there had been a Dexter touch at times. Three and a half purrs and one paw up.

This book is a book of politics featuring a community of cats. The narrator is a cat named Fyodor, a Russian Blue.

I liked this book. It was nice to be able to read a book with politics and other things about society involving cats. Fyodor was very good as a narrator. I thought that it was sad that he couldn't find his family after the flood.

Lovely bit of satire. Easy read with a little bite to it. Pick this one up when you have the time to get through the story. Well worth a read.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest opinion. It’s available for purchase now.

Sardonic and on-the-nose, this book managed to capture the jaw-dropping events of 2016 perfectly. Fyodor was a perfect window into the “election” of the next leader in a cat colony in Louisiana. Watching the lengths these cats went to in order to gain their version of supremacy was eerily familiar to me.

It was told in a simplistic, matter-of-fact style that I found charming. In no way was it pretentious or preachy. Parts of it reminded me of a lighthearted Watership Down. I love that book, so that’s high praise.

I don’t talk politics on my blog as a general rule, but I will say this: if you are a Trump supporter, or lacking in a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, this book isn’t going to make you happy. Personally, I loved the book.

Sometimes things get to be so unbelievable that it’s ripe for a good parody, which is what happened in this case. This was a good read.

I have received this title from Netgalley for an honest review. I read this short book in 2 days. It had a feel of this generations Animal Farm and 1984 but it was missing something. I liked the idea that it was told from cat's point of view. It felt like it was rushed and there was an open ending that I wanted to have a resolved ending. I will try the author again but later in the year.

With thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me read an advance copy of this title.

Pussycat Palace aspires to being a modern sort of Animal Farm. Its successes are in its descriptions of the cat characters and the discussion of how they deal with the aftermath of a storm and a flood. Unfortunately, the writing itself is plodding and repetitive and the humor - meant to center on the 2016 election - is heavy-handed rather than universal. A rather weak recap of political events that will appeal neither to cat lovers nor to dedicated watchers of political news.
